This is happening across all 50 States. Did you see your news in CA today? Major layoffs in the Public sector in your State.

...because of CA budget crises.

California isn't unlike many other states that have a severe budget crisis......
All these states have been in need of trimming the fat in government and public and state employees pay and benefits for quite some time.........
But the way that Wis governor is obviously union-busting is way outta line ........it's to abrupt and extreem
And, It'll serve to re-kindle and escalate the fighting between the parties to a point where absolutley nothing will be accomplished......scold

thumbs up J

That was new news to me. Isn't this the whole issue that we are talking about on this thread? Union workers need to concede rather than protest.

An issue has not been brought up yet...What about raising the retirement age higher? I'm not sure either way about that.

This provision is included in the Bills.

Sparky55: To me, Unions have morphed into nothing more than another Special Interest Group. they've led to the corruption of our political system just like other lobbiest do. President Obama got elected in part thanks to his catering to the Unions.

Once, long ago, Unions actually meant something and did some good, some still do but the majority are all about getting more money & benefits for their members with little regard for the impact. Perhaps this more than anything else explains the significant decline in union membership over the past 40 years.

I agree the unions are self-serving money grubbing worthless mafia organizations......but if I were that governor - I'de be smart enough to take steps in increments to chop away at their power.
Some businesses do benefit by and actually want unions in order to have one entity to negotiate with for employee's wages and benefits. If the union is reasonable the relationship model does work and allows more production and less time dickering with employees indivual issues .....

One would hope there are concessions on both ends .....that's how this would be resolved equitably thumbs up

This whole senario is not unlike a few times where I had lost my patience on my comstruction jobs with spoiled sub-contractors.
A few times I fired the whole bunch of them - and it cost me dearly for the delay in finding new help to finish the jobs.
I quickly learned that you get more cooperation and better production by not ruling with an iron fist. I made concessions and as did they and we all got along.

JA, you are sounding more and more like a troll. The WI union workers have conceded on wages and benefits and in Ohio, even the public pension systems have proposed that retirement ages be increased here. What's your beef? dunno

I'm very familiar with Ohio politics. I was born in Kirtland, Ohio and had lived there most of my life. I come back to Ohio in April.

I don't have any beef other than my own experiences from Northeast, Ohio. I'm just stating my beliefs about my Union experiences.

How about the floods in Ohio today?

I won't fly back until those are gone! LOL!

Could it be union employees greed. Demanding $30 an hour for a $15 an hour job?

Unions are safety cautious and they deserve credit for that. When an electrical service or installation is done, a Union employee will be there to flick a switch to provide power for safety to other Union workers.

This is far and beyond what most private employers would do. It costs the Unions a lot of money to provide this service.

Did you look at the comment I made just above you in favor of some Union practices? I'm not as anti-union as you think.

I know that finding jobs is difficult in Ohio, but 4 years is extending it a little. There are help wanted signs all over.

Sure, these jobs are minimum wage and non-union, but you have to start again somewhere...even if it is at McDonalds.

I did apoligize to you in an above comment with a handshake. I will do it again. handshake

Thanks, JA, but not necessary. I was trying to rib you and regrettably someone else didn't see it that way or thought I was directing my comments at him. Crappola happens I guess so I too apologize for distracting your post. handshake

Kind of funny though; I've heard of road rage and sidewalk rage and parking garage rage but now... forum thread rage on CS.

btw: I'm fortunate to be retired comfortably and don't want to work again unless I find another passion to work on.

How are the Beaches there this time of year?

Beaches are great in Hawaii. When I get back to Ohio, I have a beach house on Headlands Beach in Mentor...beach is great there too.

I know that you weren't ribbing me. I know who was though on this thread. It was a set-up that this person tried to do between us. I am following this person's posts.

Actually, it's a beautiful state and very diverse. Sometimes I miss it but the cost of living is through the roof compared to what it was.

Oddly enough, I'll be buying in Hawaii within the next year which is at least as expensive. That's where I'll call home after I'm done with this job and really starting to get excited at the prospect. Now if the housing market would improve enough to sell my house in Alabama and S. Carolina..

peace It's OK J

We are in discussion here, and sometimes words have 2 meanings, especially with politics. The point that I'm making is that this is what is wrong with our talks about Unions and other political issues around the world. Both sides of the table need to sit down and hash it out.

We would not be seeing this in Wisconsin if both sides would just sit down and talk. The Dems leaving the State and not willing to do that will be a Historical black eye for Wisconsin in the History books.
