I work for the courthouse so the men are always opening doors for me there, guess maybe they think the judge or their lawyers are around watching No really people are really polite in the courthouse. It's amazing!! But I like it! And I hold those dang heavy doors open for people all the time myself if I get there first! Some guys do NOT like that! Kind of weird

I do it more out of habit than politeness I'm afraid. We were raised to be that way in the 60s! It's amazing though that very few women say thankyou anymore!
Neither men nor women open doors in Canada...we roll the ice cube away from the entrance to our ice homes. We all have sleds called "Freds" and wolves to pull our freds. Rarely do I let a strange man drive the fred. Not because I want to be in control, no it is because my puppies like me to drive.

victor_meldrew: I think you're doing mlp a disservice in this instance jac = I think that as he is referring the question to the wider community of many people, he is therefore referring to 'woman' in the plural, not that one bloke has several women ...
And yes, I always hold the door for ANY ladies (with or without buggies or shopping etc), not just the one that is with me.
My comment was with his previous thread in mind, as well. I have to admit.

You know I am from the old school, I do believe that men exhibiting chivalry is endearing and speaks volumes sometimes about their personalities and character. My contention however, is ...why must we women in this 21 century , fighting for all kinds of equality, expect only our men to extend these show of pleasantries?
I open doors for men, I offer to pay half of the tab if I go on a date, I have sent flowers to man for his birthday......without expecting anything other than to be treated with equality and the same consideration and respect ............simply because I loved him and I personally think its he deserves all the special treatment that is usually expected of the guy when we are in a relationship.
Times are changing, in my opinion I do not see a man less of a man because he didnt open a door for me or pick up the tab after a dinner or whatever the case may be. JMO

I taught all my son to open the door for a lady, and they still do, so what is wrong with some women these days, it is just called good old manners on the man part
