U.S. House adopts resolution rebuking Obama on Libya English.news.cn 2011-06-04 03:14:37 FeedbackPrintRSS
WASHINGTON, June 3 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. House of Representatives on Friday adopted a resolution rebuking the Obama administration for launching military operations in Libya without congressional approval.
The House voted 268 to 145 to approve the resolution sponsored by House Speaker John Boehner, which rebukes the administration for failing to comply with the War Powers Act. The law requires congressional authorization within 60 days of military action. That deadline expired last month.
In another vote Friday, the lower chamber rejected a resolution that would require the withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Libya within 15 days. The resolution by Democratic Representative Dennis Kucinich was turned down by a margin of 148 to 265.
The White House defended the administration's handling of military operations in Libya, calling both resolutions " unnecessary and unhelpful."
"It is the view of this administration that we've acted in accordance with the War Powers Act because of these regular consultations," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said aboard Air Force One en route to Toledo, Ohio. "We've been engaged in that consultation all along ... We're committed to that moving forward. " Editor: yan

If you have ever attended a US Military Funeral there is a point in the service were a single bugler plays TAPS. Few know the story of how Taps became this most solemn of all military dirges.
Here is the story.
It was 1862, near a small battle field of the Civil War called Harrison Landing. Capt. Robert Elli of the Union forces had his troops entrench on a dark night facing the entrenched southern across the no man's land.
Out in the dark in the no man's land laid a wounded soldier, moaning and crying for help. Capt. Elli did not know if he was Union or Confederate. But decide to crawl to his assistance under the fire of the southern forces.
As he reached the fallen soldier, he began to drag him back to the Union lines. Once reaching the Union lines, they shined a lamp on the now dieing man. To realized he was a Confederate soldier.
But to Capt. Elli, the dieing soldier was much more. He was his son. His son has been in the South studying music when the war broke out. Unknown to his father, he had enlisted in the Confederate army and now was here at Harrison Landing. Now laid dead at the feet of his father.
Heartbroken, Capt Elli requested that full military honors be given his son. Including a full band. That was denied because he was a Confederate soldier. Instead the Union command gave Capt. Elli one musician. He choose a bugler. The music for TAPS was in the pocket of Capt. Ellie son's uniform.
That is the story of TAPS.
When Dude so cleverly knocks GWB or conservative Americans that have taken a oath to defend the country. He knocks also the long honorable traditions of our military. GWB was a National Guard fighter pilot. His unit could have been deployed at the will of the Pentagon. So he took the risk of life to defend the country.
Were as the President that the Dude so cleverly supports had to learn how to salute after he took the oath of office. The present President though a good man and loyal American really does not have the knowledge or dedication to lead this countries military forces. And would seldom wear the American flag prior to the office. Which now seems to be seen ever where he is.
The events in the world today....say that in the future....only greater US military involvement is going to be needed. Sadly few of the REP canidates have any real military experience. Even this President has totally changed his opinions on the American military and it abilities.
While early in his administration, he could order the Air Force One for a low level fly over of the Statute of Liberty. Scaring 1/2 of New York City thinking that another 911 was occurring. While today he orders the elite Seal Team 6 to conduct the bin Laden raid. One can say that is learning. If so, it is learning on the Job. That for the Presidency is not a good thing.
Sure he can learn, but can he lead US Military Forces? Here one needs to ask why Admiral Mullens, head of Joint Chiefs was relieved of command 4 months early. Why CIA Director Penetta is going to become Sect of Defense? Why a long term Command officer in General Petreaus is being moved to the CIA?
If these command decisions seem like a amateur is in the role of CiC......it shows that though he is learning. He is still low on the learning curve.

With reference to Obama, in addition to not wanting to wear the flag on his lapel he also doesn't put his hand over his heart when the Star Spangled Banner is played. Perhaps that is why some question where his loyalties are.
I just read an article this morning that law enforcement agencies are being asked to give up ammunition because the military is running low due to being in two wars. If that isn't asinine I don't know what is. These men and women put their life on the line for us and don't have the equipment to keep them safe. I seem to recall this very thing happened with Vietnam.
The story of TAPS gave me chills and at the same was time beautiful that the music was in his son's pocket.
Thank you for the TAPS story. It reminds me of a recent funeral. A local police officer had died from cancer. She was my daughter's best girlfriend. After they played TAPS, the crowd was quiet and out of nowhere you could hear an announcement over a police car radio but there was no response to it. The announcement was "Car 82....Car 82...Car 82 out of service". It brings me to tears writing this.
Day is done. Gone the Sun. From the lakes, From the hills, From the Sky. All is well... Safely rest. God is Nigh.
Fading Light. Dims the sight. And a Star. Gems the Sky. Gleaming bright. From afar. Drawing nigh. Falls the night.
Thanks and praise. For our days. Neath the Sun. Neath the Stars. As we go.... this we know. God is nigh.
When Dude says that the US is a secular country without a God, it like saying the ocean does not have water in it. God's relationship with our founding fathers and our fore fathers is well documented in our founding documents and even the lyrics of songs such as TAPS.
From that context, Dude and liberals misconstrune the entire radical Islam conflict with America. Radical Muslims know that America adheres to the real religious freedoms. Granted in the Constitution. That in doing so, America is "the great threat" to the Sharia law that demands conformity and subservence from Muslims. Hence to Supreme Leader Khomenie...America had to become the 'Great Satan'. He had to discredit the faith American have in God and in their fellow Americans.
Every time Dude does his....REP are bad bad bad...he only endorses Khomenie's words. He sides with a radical Islamic leaders that would call you and me....evil. He would side with a country of Iran.....that post 911 was that was citing the Shia creed in secret Tehran services in an attempt to send those innocent Americans to dark place. Capt Elli son's had the answer for Dude and Iran Khatenie....God is nigh.
American might raid into bin Laden compound and kill him. But we did not conduct a religious service to send him to hell. He was given a Muslim ceremony and burial at sea. If bin Laden's Alla permits, today bin Laden is in Paradise. Were radical Muslims because their religious ideology (Shia Creed) and Sharia Law feel they have the ability to determine if someone is sent to hell. They can make this mortal decision of man's souls here on Earth.
Our Judeo Christian faith says something totally different. That only God has the ability, wisdom and the power to make that decision on a person's mortal soul. There in is the real difference and the conflict between Islam and the west. This is a struggle about life, death and mortality. Long term mortality of were ones soul ends up. Heaven or hell.
For Khomenie.....all Americans should go to hell. For Khatenie those 3005 American killed on 911.....should go to hell. For them both good Shia ...should go to Paradise. For bin laden ...good Sunni should go to Paradise. For Dude....bad REP should go to hell. For Dude ...good DEM should go to heaven.
Such child like thinking is what is causing all the religious and political conflicts in the world. Unlike the love of money, it is attitude of deceit and judgement. And it is just as deadly as the minnie ball that took Capt. Elli son.
montecito: With reference to Obama, in addition to not wanting to wear the flag on his lapel he also doesn't put his hand over his heart when the Star Spangled Banner is played. Perhaps that is why some question where his loyalties are.

My pleasure, Monecito.
The Story of TAPS was sent to me from my Church email network. If world thinks that God and our military are totally separated and secular institutions, they are sadly mistaken. My Church prays for the 40 service members that it has on duty. It had the VETs stand during the memorial day service and each gave his branch of service.
It the same for our police and firefighters. For the most part Christian Church in American supports those serving in the military or in local law positions.
As for low ammo. Yes I have heard the same. I was sourcing ammo in a NATO caliber a while back and dealer said that the available quantity was low.
Here you go Dude.......on Iran's support of the Arab Spring. As I said in the past, this would better be called the Shia Spring.
Iranian Supreme Leader Khatenie just came out and said Iran supports ALL uprising unless they are pro-US. Clearly the uprising were largely done by Shia....as mentioned in the article.
Khatenie goes so far to say....that Iran will not support any uprising that is pro US or Isreali supported. Without mentioning the Syrian uprising. Like I said in the past, I think that this is a Sunni uprising.
Khatenie made the speech....to a croud of Iranians shouting 'death to America'. I guess they did not hear Obama's speech on toning down the rhetoric.))
Obama been supporting uprising to place in Iranian proxies...in Egypt, Tunasia, Yemen, Libya,.......while taking down supporting Arab Sunni governments for peace with Isreal, like Mubarak's.
While in Iran....the leaders of the Green movement are still under house arrest...and 1000 are under trial for the civil unrest of the sham election. The radicals want the green leader hung for sedition and treason. Obama does not say very much as he wants to have negotiation with Amhmendinejad on Iranian nucs.
Still sweet........
While in Libya....the UK sent American Apache Helo into strike Qdaffi forces in a port. Do you think that many in the middle east will see a difference between a American Apache and a UK Apache? al-Jezzerra is going to to have a field day here.
Qdaffi has again refuse to leave the country. The Presidentt of SA was there again trying to get him set down. But the COL said nada....I am staying till something freezes over in Libya.
Sweeter yet..............
Finally in Pakistan and Yemen. With the now known mailing addressed of Omar, el Zharakiri and alAwalik. Obamas set up a Task Force to share the bin Laden compound intelligence with the Pakistani. Right now those three are shopping for new compounds to sleep in. If they don't have them already.
Meaning he just failed mission security 101....don't tell the bad guys, you are coming to their addresses. Because the Task Force Pakistani are mostly going to share everything with the Taliban and alQeada.
Think that I am wrong? Remember the recent attack on a Pakistani Navy base in Karchi? A Mumbia style attack? Know who the Pakistani arrested for planning it? A former Pakistani Navy Special Force operator. Yep.............
It only get so sweet.......then I cannot handle it anymore...it cause cavities.
Day is done. Gone the Sun. From the lakes, From the hills, From the Sky. All is well... Safely rest. God is Nigh.

raphael118: WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT UNAMERICAN TRASH? sWISS BANK? CUBA? DID YOU FORGET WHAT SECRETARY GATES SAID ABOUT OBAMA'S COURAGE AND DECISIVENESS?
Faithfulness: Back in Jesus's day there wasn't republicans or democrats, especially in the part of the world Jesus lived. It is my understanding that that part of the world to this day does not vote republican or democrat. Maybe you should think first before asking your questions Dude.
I have been to the southern part of my country and I know first hand that most do not have 10 bibles in their homes along with guns in every corner of their houses. Where do you get your information from anyway?
For what it's worth, I keep all of my pistols, rifles and shotguns locked up in a safe at home, except the one I conceal carry. And at night it is under a pillow. No big Deal. Guns ar part of every person's right-to-life belief.

better hope you never, ever act out in your sleep dude. or confuse the "gun" with something else!
Wonderful story on TAPS, tttom. I had first learned it while studying the Civil War in the eighth grade by a teacher who always enjoyed sharing a wealth of interesting information. Again the story of TAPS was told during my Freshman High School ROTC course.
It really struck home when it was played at my grandparent's best friend's war veteran's funeral. Not a dry eye was to be found at the last note of it's playing.
Again, it took it's place in my heart when a fellow Sheriff's Deputy was shot and killed in the line of duty the day before Easter this year. He was only 31 and was engaged to be married. During the graveside service, TAPS began to play... Family members began to weep openly.. I looked up to see that a road runner had perched itself on an adjacent gravestone cocking it's head from side to side as if to say, "Why so sad?" The fellow deputy had always loved the Road Runner from the Bugs Bunny cartoons and he always loved the hauntingly beautiful notes of TAPS. I like to think that perhaps he had come back as a road runner to comfort us all in our darkest moments to brighten the day for just a little bit.
