Yes Cat, saw your comment on the earlier blog this morning. About the newspaper as toilet paper, seen it in the outhouse at my uncle's house a long time ago (everything is long time ago now! ). In fact, it was everywhere with the old phone books. Good thing that the ink was indelible!
Tell him that you know, don't get manipulated and give him his "walking papers" for his lack of respect toward you. Like Ed said, probably he'll do it again later if he can get away with it.
He isn't my hero but I have no animosity toward him to wish him dead. You have quite a few people who understand Spanish on this site, but I don't know if Rahmond is one of them? I also respect the people of Venezuela, as I wish them the best.
They have "State Department Advisories" for US nationals. They can't help if no one calls! Also, you have to respect the laws of other countries. There is not much they can do if you knowingly put yourself in harm's way. They will provide assistance if you get arrested, but in the situation you described with alot of media attention, they will ask for an investigation.
When there is a situation in counries where there is no diplomatic relations, another country will be the go between. I.e. Iran, North Korea, etc...
When it comes to health care, we are guinea pigs and regarded as a cash crop. If your Doctor is a resident in an hospital, you will have surgery. Most of the time, you will have a multitude of test to be sure. If you have a good insurance, that is. Give me an old fashion country Doctor, they were the best. They really care about their patients, they didn't worry about repaying their government student loans. Some do exist and I don't want to put them all in the same bag. They are harder to find.
I had the same kind of encounter regarding a Sciatica. I am glad I went to the Chiropractor first, it took care of the problem and the suffering in one visit.
With the Doctor, pills, multiple visits, test, hospital and in some case, surgery. With a Chiropractor, a couple of manipulation of the spine, neck.
Now, everything cannot be treated by a Chiropractor. Better see the Chiropractor before going to see a doctor regarding bones out of place problems with no fractures. I've seen people with spinal surgery going for reruns because it didn't relieve the pain.
Thank you Z for pointing it to me. I had no idea that it could be that bad. When people do war about Facebook, it becomes insane. Well, I find solace in knowing that CS is pretty tame in comparison. Not perfect, but no place really is. Reading your comment, I can now imagine the Wolf pack mentality in SagaZone.
"Would I rather have a fuller life and die much younger than her?"
You made a good observations, but when you get up in age, you will cling to life like many old people. It is easy to say it when you are younger, who knows what life will throw at you.
At least, your Grand-Mother has your family around and it makes a great difference. You can observe that it is mostly women who survive and if they have no one left around, it can be difficult to live alone and keep your dignity.
Everyone circumstances are different and I hope that you will have people around you, a family, when you get older.
