RE: Effective Government

I can understand the feeling of helplessness when you live in this kind of government. cheers

From the article I read last week, "SA fighting losing battle against corruption":

"Lawyer Peter Allwright of law firm Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs says although 88 percent of people tried for financial misconduct are found guilty only 19 percent are dismissed. He says most get off with a written warning and remain in government service and continue stealing.

Allwright says his report, based on figures from the Public Service Commission, covers only national and provincial governments, indicating the amount of money going missing from public coffers is more than that being reported.

He tells the AP that corruption "is rampant, it is out of control" and units fighting it "are essentially losing the battle."

RE: Effective Government

Hi Cat, handshake
The first thought coming to mind of "Effective Government" is an oxymoron.
Haven't seen one yet. laugh

Have a nice day Cat. cheers

RE: you learn something everyday.....

My niece visited Australia last year, it will never be the same after she left. laugh
Don't blame the whole nation for this unfortunate event. laugh
I can say I admire her for going to visit there by herself, it will enrich her understanding of other cultures.
I think many people over here should do the same thing.handshake

RE: you learn something everyday.....

You are right Abagail, Salle de Bain is "bathroom". It sometime includes the toilet. In some homes, the toilet is separated from it and is commonly called here the WC or toilet.
Salle de Bain generally is the room where you'll find a shower or bathtub, bidet, sink. handshake

RE: you learn something everyday.....

Hi Market, handshake
Few other names, Loo, WC or water closet, Lavatories.

RE: The Plague

Non, Thank you for pointing to my wrong interpretation. Let me rephrase it.
"It is difficult for humans to imagine the universe as infinite. From our experiences, we tend to believe that anything has a beginning and an end." cheers

RE: Vappu La la la la First Of May

Hi Life, handshake

Another day off! wow

Vappu, Vappu, ai ai ai laugh bouquet

RE: The Plague

Hi AustralianGirl, handshake

Mankind has always searched for cohesion in the unknown. The universe became an entity only perceptible in its mind and feeling of hope with the possibility of a creator. Nature's perfection could only be attributed to a concrete idea similar to the thinking mechanism of mankind. Everything has to have a reason and be part of a larger correlation to the human existence.
It is almost impossible for the human to see the universe as abstract, without beginning or end. In extreme human suffering, there is an incomprehension and a feeling of helplessness. A result of our learning environment and experience, our relation to the universe and other human beings is no more important than a small ant swept away by a tsunami.
Human beings are vain in comparison to other life form because they think and it gives them a false unaware feeling of superiority. The only difference is that mankind has to face its mortality and justify its existence. The best justification is a holy purpose decided by a greater entity than mankind. cheers

RE: The Last Tango

Australiangirl,

The Plague, or La Peste, is a great one too. bouquet

RE: The Last Tango

Cat, I have known people who made the choice and I don't think it is insanity. It could be logic or emotional, many different causes could be invoked. They were conscious of their actions and at that point, I doubt they worried about the courts. cheers

RE: The Last Tango

Australiangirl,

"No. It requires revolt."
He had to be a French author. laugh
Just kidding, he was a great author.
"He was the second-youngest recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature, after Rudyard Kipling." bouquet

RE: I am Back.

Welcome back Omda. handshake

RE: The Last Tango

Hi Cat, handshake

I agree, it takes great courage to go through with it. It doesn't happens like in the movies, no one is around to save you and it is final.
It is sad and a waste of human life, but I can understand why. Life was given to them without a choice.
To me, without talking about the religious aspect of it, so many people are born with a physical disability and they have a greater courage to face life.
While some, born whole, cannot confront some deceptions and smaller adversities. cheers

RE: Haute Cuisine

Hi AustralianGirlAU, handshake

I don't think the list means much. It ignores many small unknown restaurants or chef that are equally good.
It hinges on imagination, service, quality, comfort, taste and general appearance of the place.
Many small places with talented employees, robust cuisine and lack of visibility could compete on certain criteria.
Some decide that visibility put too much strain on quality and refuse to turn into a financial investment rather than exercising talents.
We also have to realize that a great chef is as good as his team of helpers.
Who want to mortgage their house for a meal? laugh
Also, I don't see too many Asian restaurants on the list. In my opinion, I rather go somewhere unpretentious with good ethnic food, dressed as you wish, instead of being part of a show with haughty wait staff. cheers

RE: OK I NEED HELP AGAIN

Hi Mike, handshake

I hope your computer got rested and decided to perform its duties this morning. laugh

I am not an expert, but here it goes.

Did it work few days ago? Did you have any updates these past few days?

When you make changes, clear the browser cache by pressing the F5
Key.

As you said, it could be your settings in IE if it is the only place you are having problems.
I noticed, some video links are embedded in CS with the recommended Https.
I would check the security and activeX settings in IE. You could restore the settings in IE to the defaults. Also, is IE the latest? If not, upgrade.

If you had a problem with Java or Adobe Flash player, I would think none of the videos would show up on all pages.
I doubt it is your antivirus or firewall, but you could check it.

You might find an answer here if it is only IE:

If nothing works and it worked before, roll back to the last restore point in Windows. A little more extreme, but an often ignored step before changing all the settings on a computer and messing it up. cheers

RE: The Fledgling Nation of CS

Hi Non, handshake

I'll have an important question before deciding anything.
What are going to be the immigration policies and the Constitution?

Will you take refugees from France? grin
cheers

RE: How I feel @ times...but only to know I am Strong!

Hi Tuitoga, handshake
There is no sensible choice than being strong and rise from adversity. It builds character and resourcefulness. By being strong, you will find light after the darkness.

Take care. cheers
