Effective Government

In England there are two dominant political parties; the Conservative Party and the Labour Party, each with about 40% of dedicated voter’s support.

Those people will vote for their party, comes hell or high water. Even after a political scandal, when a party’s support may dwindle a bit, they all come back in the end.

The other 20% hold the balance of power. They hold the votes to be worked for. This is the foundation of good effective government. The party in the seat must work hard to stay there. He must keep his minorities happy or they will swing; comes the next election.

In America there are two dominant political parties; the Republicans and the Democrats, each with about… No, I’m not going to repeat everything again.

What is true for England is true in America. Maybe not in the same proportions, but the effect is the same.

An almost perfect political model; the secret lies in an effective opposition. I am sure this model is replicated in most other successful nations.

This is not so with African and other less successful nations where dictatorships, tyrannies and one-party states seem to dominate. The result is gross corruption and human hardship; and the total suppression of minorities. A few privileged are enriched while the bulk of the population lives in utmost poverty.

When is Africa going to wake up!dunno confused

Hi Omda,

Pretty much the same here, though not a religious thing; more cultural. We practically live in a one party state where minorities (even large ones) mean nothing. A corrupt government so strong they can change the constitution at will.frustrated

But slowly the people are waking up; 20 years of empty promises brought them nothing. The opposition is getting stronger.

there is hope in the pipeline.

Hi Ummka,

Yes, thank you!

There are so many other beautiful things around us, that things like this should not didturb.

But it makes me sad to see all the poverty in my country while the polititions enrich themselves on government money.
Cat, not you I that we can't do with it. The world is so arranged.

Politics is just a bureaucratic style good cop / bad cop routine.
There all playing the same game and you/we are not involved.

The illusion of opposition is to blind you to the fact that you have no real Power. But that's only if you believe the world is run by about 1000 or so Elite family's.

otherwise Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain wink

It is true Ummka,

Not much we can do about it, but it remains sad to see!

We feed the childen at a school in a poor community not to far away. Some of those children get no other food than what we give them.

Sometimes a child eats at school on a Friday and nothing all weekend until Monday at school when we feed him again. I think some of them only come to school to get food.

Good morning Wel,

I hope that this one is not going to be about politics; sometimes my blogs can take strange directions that I never intended.

Poverty is what I want to hi-lite today.

Hi Cat, handshake
The first thought coming to mind of "Effective Government" is an oxymoron.
Haven't seen one yet. laugh

Have a nice day Cat. cheers
Hi Del,

I missed the oxymoron in my title.laugh

But I can tell you in my arrogant humility that we can agree to disagree that we fought a just war that left us in a fine mess with an abundance of poverty.
laugh rolling on the floor laughing
I can understand the feeling of helplessness when you live in this kind of government. cheers

From the article I read last week, "SA fighting losing battle against corruption":

"Lawyer Peter Allwright of law firm Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs says although 88 percent of people tried for financial misconduct are found guilty only 19 percent are dismissed. He says most get off with a written warning and remain in government service and continue stealing.

Allwright says his report, based on figures from the Public Service Commission, covers only national and provincial governments, indicating the amount of money going missing from public coffers is more than that being reported.

He tells the AP that corruption "is rampant, it is out of control" and units fighting it "are essentially losing the battle."
Cat, I agree with some of the other comments in that there has yet to be an effective form of government, taking the UK as an example, the country pays the prime minister around £142k for running a whole country, Tesco, a supermarket chain pays it's CEO the thick end of £2 million, looking at these figures it would be easy to reach the conclusion that only a moron would chose to be prime minister over being in private business, that being the case it's hardly surprising the government doesn't attract the "Best" brains, to get round this problem when say making new tax legislation they employ top tax lawyers from the private sector to weed out loop holes that may be exploited by the large corporations, this may be effective against the everyday man in the street finding a way to avoid tax but as the large corporations use the very same lawyers as the government one imagines it's fairly easy for them to find loop-holes in their own work doh
Hi Del,

The anti corruption units are being dealt with when they by government. Troublesome officials are replaced by pro government officials. Only government officials in disfavour are really prosecuted. The anti corruption units are being corrupted from inside.

A pension fund employee caught stealing not too long ago (charged but never prosecuted) now heads the internal audit dept of the same pension fund.
Hi Zman

When you have what we have, I suppose any alternative is better. This lothere not only ignore the minorities, but also the poor masses of their own. They simply don't care.
dunno confused
Hi Cat,handshake "effective government "... find one, and I will pay you a dinner.... not even in America or Europe... but you right in one point.. "When is Human kind going to wake up!"

No good telling me, Who. You helped putting them there. But yes, you probably have more of the axe. You belong to a much smaller minority.

I addressed in society where the volunteer to Africa and Somalia gathers, I want to go and give money or itself to buy products and to distribute, even Fatina supported Me but told my age doesn't allow, they take only the young. But thus I mentioned that I can give money of. I disagreed.hug
Hi Angel.
wine hug
Yes Ummka,

the volunteers all seem to be young people. The problem about donating money is that it does not get to the people whi it is intended for. The politiations walk away with it.
