My son, who lives with me, became very unwell a couple of weeks back with a very sore throat & congestion on his chest that he couldn't shift.
After a couple of days of this he looked dreadful, I recommended he see a doctor which he declined but agreed to a rapid antigen test which returned a negative result.
He became so unwell that I drove him to a medical centre (both wearing masks) where he had a Covid swab test which returned a positive result within 48 hours.
He is still recovering in terms of energy levels & appears asymptomatic now but I'm glad I am fully vaccinated (I had the latest booster a few weeks back), put in place distancing measures & upped the hygiene levels in our small home as so far, touch wood, I have had no symptoms and have remained well.
Witchy this is a sad indictment on our governments who continue to fail those of us who are carers, in addition to those we care for.
I could talk for days about this as I have travelled alongside my son who was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 23 (he's now 43), advocated for him, collaborated with mental health services, countless phone calls, emails, tribunals etc. but nothing has changed in terms of his support or mine.
My son shares my home and every day is difficult, in terms of separating the person from the illness in addition to medication that is often adjusted without notice.
I love him dearly and will continue to support him as long as I remain on this mortal coil, but can I just say that grief sits alongside this as this is not the life that we envisaged for our children of course
I have also worked in this field for the past several years so it's a topic dear to my heart, thanks again for creating this blog and opening up discussion about mental health
This is a complex topic and I think the more we talk about it, the more insight we will gain and hopefully this will be valuable in terms of not only the vulnerable people in our community but ourselves and the loved ones we support.
We need to lift the lid on mental illness and make it a common course of discussion, it's nothing to be afraid of and education is key
I would also be interested in clarification around 'the other side of the matter'.
Good for you mb for having shared your mental health journey, this opens up discussions and helps to combat stigma around mental health issues which many of us experience either personally, through lived experience with a loved one or both
I've been a fan for years and his tomato, pepper tofu recipe has been on high rotation in ny kitchen since I watched one of his shows in the early days
I enjoy how he immerses himself in the culture of whatever country he is travelling in and find him charismatic & super talented while at the same time, humble.
He was recently a guest judge on Master Chef AU, was good to see him
'It is physically impossible for pigs to look up straight to the sky. It’s the anatomy of their neck muscles and the spine that limits the movement of their head and restricts them to look totally upwards. Even to look at a tree top, a pig has to take one or more steps back while lifting its head to see directly above it.'
I'm gonna find me a pig and lift it up so it can see the sky, the moon and the stars
I hope it's ok if I do a bit of a debrief about this
I know many have been following this since news first emerged, as I have..
My first thoughts were I had no idea that people participated in this kind of activity, quickly followed by claustrophobic, panicked feelings about being sealed in a capsule on land, sea or otherwise, with no form of escape..
I just hope these people passed without suffering and can only think of their loved ones now
My thoughts are that there is room on here for everyone; Ches is a long-term member and yes, sometimes his posts appear a bit out there but they are obviously meaningful to him and quite often to others also.
Obviously it's your choice whose comments you allow on your blogs, unlike the forums that I mostly inhabit
And have been known to carry on like a pork chop regarding other members' comments but let's not discuss that right now
I think it would be interesting if site admin would like to participate in a discussion around their decision to remove comments from this blog, yet permitted a blog from MermaidHair who appeared mentally unstable, admitting to entering her boss's apartment uninvited and having delusional thoughts about men who she felt may be attracted to her.
Then was supported by American members regarding her ambition to buy a gun.
Is it me or do others find this completely incomprehensible, if not irresponsible
I have always enjoyed your blogs, they are refreshing and interesting and you come across as a good-hearted, honest and resourceful young man.
I know this is not much comfort for you, coming from a mature-age lady (you've probably heard it all before) but I feel there's a lovely like-minded young lady out there and you just haven't found her yet
Please don't give up, keep doing what you do, enjoy your life and one day your paths will cross.
