I didn't start it, was just replying to a member of 'the bent banana brigade.'

RE: Would you take someone serious and date them if they didn’t like Leonard Cohen and his music?

'Laughing Lenny' was a bundle of fun....music to slit your wrists to....laugh

Only joking...I quite like his songs really.

RE: Britain’s long goodbye will leave an unfillable hole in the EU project

But not bent bananas...

"A Brussels ban on bendy bananas is one of the EU’s most persistent myths.

Bananas have always been classified by quality and size for international trade. Because the standards, set by individual governments and the industry, were confusing, the European Commission was asked to draw up new rules.

Commission regulation 2257/94 decreed that bananas in general should be “free from malformation or abnormal curvature”. Those sold as “extra class” must be perfect, “class 1” can have “slight defects of shape” and “class 2” can have full-scale “defects of shape”.

Nothing is banned under the regulation, which sets grading rules requested by industry to make sure importers – including UK wholesalers and supermarkets – know exactly what they will be getting when they order a box of bananas."

Those who believed that complete myth (it was completely discredited later as fake news) used to be referred to as 'the bent banana brigade,' meaning a person who belive anything published in the tabloids.

RE: What would you do, if there was noting to do?

Yes real silence is wonderful. I live about half a mile from a busy m/way, never total silence. But at night when I want to sleep, with a bit of imagination the traffic road noise can sound like surf in the distance, but most often I done even notice it anymore.
I see you live in Co Mayo. I used to visit a friend who lived just outside Foxford, it's so beautiful around there, especially Achill Island. Would love to go back sometime.

RE: What would you do, if there was noting to do?

Yes it's a simple meditation, in Buddhism it's called Shamatha or calm abiding meditation.
The most common method is to use the breath as the 'object' of the meditation.
You can use other things as the object, a candle flame for instance but learning g to use the breath is good because it's always there.
Contrary to common belief most meditation is not really for relaxation although that does happen. It's really to help train the mind to become more aware and focused, in fact it's quite the opposite from becoming drowsy or dulling the senses, it sharpens the mind and gives much more clarity to your thoughts and helps to positively connect with your feelings.
Of course this is only the case if it's done on a daily basis, little and often is the best way to begin.

RE: What would you do, if there was noting to do?

Do you never set aside some time for doing nothing?

I mean to sit quiet, do absolutely nothing, except observe your thoughts without engaging them. Observe your breathing without changing it, notice how your breathing happens automatically.
It's a great way to calm your mind and invigorate your body, especially if you make a daily habit of it.

RE: What would you do, if there was noting to do?

You're right, it is... laugh

RE: What would you do, if there was noting to do?

I'd become a human being instead of a human doing.

It's actually a nice place to be if you allow it.

Hi mb, good to see you.

Love it...typical Manchester humour, dry and understated, Karl was born not far from me.
Love the manic laughter from Ricky Gervais at the end of the clip....laugh

This is what Carl's been doing fairly recently. .

"Sick of It is a British comedy-drama television series that premiered on Sky One on 27 September 2018. It was created and written by Karl Pilkington and Richard Yee (who also directed the series). Pilkington stars as both lead characters, playing his namesake Karl, and the voice inside his head that takes the form of his Doppelgänger."

RE: Is physical punishment good for children?

Yes a throwback to public schools, which in the States are called private schools. Seems strange that in the uk we call private schools 'public schools.'
Anyway, it was a shock to the system to find prefects had this authority, but it did end a couple of years later.

RE: Great songs that are almost unknown

The Beatles....One After 909.

"One After 909” was one of the group’s most successful early numbers. It has the distinction of being recorded three times within months of its arrival, and was also cited in McCartney’s contemporary promotional letter. It became a regular in the group’s stage act (when Lennon-McCartney numbers were mostly still being shunned),
and was then captured twice on tape in the Cavern Club in 1962 (bootlegged).

But why was “One After 909” then consigned to the dustbin? The reasons are not clear; possibly the Beatles weren’t sure how to arrange it."

RE: Falling in Love Online - Have you or Haven't you?

Of course some people find love to share with another that lasts a lifetime and they probably did 'fall in love' at the beginning of the relationship.
But that feeling of being in love, or falling in love is always temporary. The honeymoon period as we sometimes call it always ends sooner or later, the 'falling' cannot last.

There has to be a landing and quite often it's a crash landing.

At this point the relationship either ends as the realisation that the 'other' who we have invested all this emotional energy in is not the magical other we have search for and wanted for so long. They are not the perfection we have projected onto them, or them onto us, how could we be?

Or, we accept those feelings could not last forever and allow a more meaningful kind of love to developed. Some people call this, working on the relationship."
Couples can and do developed true meaningful love for each other that can last a lifetime, but only after the heady journey of falling in love has transcended into something much more special and much more loving.....but those true loving relationships are in the minority.

RE: A Believer's Testimony

Not quite 'Folie à Deux.'

But along those lines...laugh

RE: A Believer's Testimony

Maybe read it again.

It was a quote from a book by James Hollis as I explained.

And he certainly didn't claim 'love' to be a transient psychosis.

That would be ridiculous....laugh

RE: A Believer's Testimony

Our beliefs are not always founded on truth.

Even the word be-LIE-f should make us question....is it true?

RE: Christian Deprogramming

Not a bad shout...thumbs up

RE: Christian Deprogramming

Ouch!!!

No need for such drastic measures...laugh

Maybe a bit of mindfulness meditation would serve you better.

RE: Christian Deprogramming

You can't 'understand' it, you have to become aware of it. It's a long and committing journey. For most it takes years just to get a basic realisation.

RE: Falling in Love Online - Have you or Haven't you?

It doesn't always help though...

"Falling in love is just a transient psychosis. The often used term 'love is blind' gives a clue, even Cupid is depicted wearing a blindfold.
In adolescence we can succumb to this state of mind, or state of madness on a regular basis, maybe once or twice a week, but fortunately this psychosis is usually temporary. Later in life this may not be the case.
The unbalanced mind overcome by infatuation, obsession and attachment can easily be tipped into deep depression, stalking, even homicide or suicide."

James Hollis.....The Eden Project.

RE: Falling in Love Online - Have you or Haven't you?

True love is never a 'fall' it can never be a descent, true love is uplifting. Infatuation, obsession and attachment are usually what happens in reality and the given the term 'falling in love'.
All perfectly possible online as some people are more susceptible to these states of mind and can 'fall in love' over and over again, even online.

RE: Christian Deprogramming

Excellent link.

Thanks for posting rob.

RE: Christian Deprogramming

That's why it's difficult, the subconscious mind is not readily accessible by the conscious mind. All we have learned and think we've forgotton is stored in the subconscious ready to be reactivated, often when we least expect it and unfortunately, at times we could do without.
