This is so true. If he proposed a massive withdrawal the evening of his swearing in, people would lose their minds. He ponders a scaled withdrawal, and nothing but criticism. There's just no win.
There are a ton of good beginner bikes out there, but I think my favorite would be a used (but well-cared-for) Suzuki SV 650. Good low-end (friendly) torque from the V-twin, light, easy to manage, and good performance you would not outgrow right away. Even vets enjoy riding them. Cheap, fun, and reliable as hell. There are others...that's a start...
The dream job is working at a car or motorcycle magazine. I like to write, something my current job affords me.
I wound up in something auto-related, and my expertise is counted on day-in and day-out. Not bad - a glorified gearhead.
It's not something I dread, but it has it's moments, stresses, etc., just like anything else. But when you like the subject matter, it all works out. I've been with the same outfit for 23 years this September.
