Hi Jan, I understand that completely and this really doesn't have anything to do with Government commemmorations. My whole point was that an ignorant comment was made, and it really rattled my cage. It was not meant to become a debate, though I believe now that it may. It was simply a brief history lesson to help educate those that don't know or understand.
I have many friends in the military that are overseas right now, including kids that I taught when I lived in Texas who are friends with my daughter and son in-law. My prayers are always with those that are over there fighting against the terrorism as well as with the families of the people that have lost their lives because of this.
As most of the forum posters know I'm not one to rant and rave or get bent out of shape easily. I'm a little hot under the collar right now due to the naivety and ignorance of some people that don't think before the speak, or know what they are speaking of before they do. There's lots of information on the "information super-highway" all you have to do is be willing to seek it out and learn.
I have a little bit of an advantage when it comes to this day in particular...Why? Because I grew up here in NY I spent more than 20 years of my life seeing the World Trade Center every single day, and I worked in the towers and so did my Mom. I don't claim to know everything about them, but here's what I do know...
The World Trade Center was the home to nearly 500 businesses, 9 chapels and some 50,000 employees. It had officially opened in the spring of 1973.
Of the 500 businesses that the World Trade Center held the majority of those businesses were financial, shipping, and Governmental offices. Granted most of the Governmental offices were US or NYS Government, but the financial and shipping offices were not. The financial offices were world wide, holding many if not all countries trades and finances. The shipping offices also consisted of various countries most of which were Israeli based or Yugoslavian based corporations.
The idea behind the World Trade Center was to not only boost a dying NY economy at the time, but also to bring the world together. For the time it opened it's doors until September 11, 2001 billions of people walked through those towers, whether it was for business or pleasure.
The people that died on September 11, 2001 were not ALL Americans. There were also people from many other countries that died that day. IT WASN'T JUST ONE NATIONS LOSS, IT WAS MANY!!!!!!!
Not to sound condesending or to minimize what you have said. Yes there are many who are killed each day as a result of wars and terrorism and yes it is wrong all the way around.
Do you have any idea what the Towers stood for or what they held?
I do and that's why this day is a tragic loss to everyone. I don't just say this because it affected me personally either, but I know what those towers meant and what they held.
I'm not quite sure if you excited enough Lori, you aren't counting the hours and minutes I wish the Dr would let me drive...You're only going to be a little less than 6 hours away
Not only finding someone who knows what it means, but also someone who understands the true meanings of loving someone for who they are, instead of who they want them to be.
Kat, I just looked up the user ID on Yahoo and it doesn't exist, so either it's an alias nickname or it is someone that just joined yahoo and their information isn't up yet.
See if you can figure out the answer to this riddle...
Turn polar bears white and I will make you cry. I make guys have to pee and girls comb their hair. I make celebrities look stupid and normal people look like celebrities. I turn pancakes brown and make your champane bubble. If you sqeeze me, I'll pop. If you look at me, you'll pop. Can you guess the riddle?
Do You Really Know What Today Is About?
