RE: Does homeopathy work, or is it just placebo nonsense?

Dandelion – “I have no doubt that some of it may work and some may be flim-flam!”
I think that is the best overall attitude toward the pills or the plants LOL Some do, some don’t, and that goes for either. Same as the “power of the mind” stuff. Knew one fool that all I had to do was tell her some cup of tea would do something, and just because I said it she felt those affects (LOL idiot drunk/junkie I was working on getting straightened out). Yes, I did use her own stupidity and “blind faith” to get her to fall asleep and such from time to time just to shut her up. Call it mean, I called it self preservation at the time LOL
But seriously, you can’t say that a 4 month old infant would be fooled this way.

Netter – “a lot of the other drugs have just a placebo effect too and they have much more severe side effects than homeopathy.”
Mostly I agree with you, (sure is freaky listening to those commercials for the latest new drug, and the list of potential side effects, many worse than the actual ailment they are meant to treat!) but it should be said that before wandering out to the country and randomly munching on plants and such, there are a lot of toxic ones, so take care that you know what you are doing. Allergies are also a concern. I think the biggest thing that Funguy leaves out is that each person is different, and not everyone reacts the same to each substance. A simple example is that I have seen many drink coffee with dinner and still sleep like a baby. Me, never after 11am or I don’t sleep at all.
Regarding your friend with MS, heard there were a few cases of people thinking that, when it was just the aspartame in their diet sodas. Another lovely little gift of the scientific community. Some times it is best to check yourself for what you may need to eliminate, than to waste a trip to a money grubber who will just give you another toxin=doc with prescription pad.

RE: Does homeopathy work, or is it just placebo nonsense?

Fun Guy – “not scientific and it cannot be predicted when and how well it will work.”
Same can be said for any substance/drug.
“Each person reacts very differently depending on their belief.”
LOL Belief, no mention of metabolism, or chemical imbalances of the brain etc? Not just psych reasons for people to react differently to substances. Kids get MMR boosters every day. How many have an allergic reaction to the preservatives LIKE MINE DID?
“None of this is caused by an actual active ingredient though.”
Just YOUR OPINION, already proven otherwise in the real world, hands on, not just theory.
“I don't get offended by people I do not respect.”
Or respect facts that differ with your attitude or ideals apparently. Real research is OBJECTIVE and FAIR. Are you so partial to pills you fear experimenting with alternatives? leaving your “education” severely LACKING. Very hard to respect the mere opinion of an uninformed person.
“But you have to remember that research is very very expensive and not sustainable if no money is comming in.”
Significantly more money is spent on promotion than research.
“Business decisions are sometimes made that may not be 100 % in favor of potential patients.”
But ALWAYS in favor of those making a profit. Everyone also knows that a lot of cures are held back because if people get the cure, they won’t keep paying these companies for their placebos that just temporarily address symptoms.

“People only see how much money they make on one drug or another but forget how many other drug candidates had to be developed concurrently but failed to make it to the approval level or were not very successful once on the market.”
LOL Isn’t that somewhat like saying that just because McD’s burns so many burgers that they have to charge $10 for the ones they actually get right?

“Some of the burden also lies on the medical doctors who need to make better diagnoses and not overprescribe drugs for no good reason (e.g., antibiotics).”
Wish you would have been in on some of those conversations with doctors where they ADMIT that the only reason doctors don’t even know about alternative medicines is because it wasn’t covered in medical school. Believe it or not, some actually care enough about treating their patients that they research it on their own.

“I don't deny that herbal remedies can be effective. In fact, many pharmaceutical drugs are either synthetic copies or isolated natural products. We were talking about the basically zero concentration of active ingredients in homeopathic treatments. That's not the same as actual herbal therapy.”
Then be more clear about it in the first place instead of having to back paddle.

Not so funny guy – “Do I have to bow or sacrifice a sheep for you or anything? ”
You do realize that perverse and disgusting crap like that blows any and all respect, much less credibility, right out of the water. Well, considering your other remarks, probably not LOL

“Reflexology, accupuncture, homeopathy, hypnosis, etc. They are all bogus and not types of "medicine".”
And your experience, education, research, etc with each would be exactly what? What exactly do you base your determinations on? I wouldn’t comment on the first two (anything involving sticking needles in me, and you have to catch me first LOL), but the others I actually have first hand experience, documentation, witnesses, video tape…PROOF one way or the other. Spare me what you have READ, what do you actually KNOW.

Funguy – “Most drugs really do exhibit medical effect, at least when we're talking about prescription drugs.”
RFLMFAO, boy do I wish I could ram the medical records for my family your way. You would see just how WRONG AND STUPID that line was. Kinda as bad as
“Otherwise they would not get through the FDA approval process.”
You forgot the part “to be recalled at a later date due to all the class action lawsuits LOL
tongue tongue tongue

I think it is about time we make some DEMANDS of our own

I am starting to think that other countries may be so jealous of what the U.S. has and is, that they just want to see us over run with these criminals so that their countries won't appear so lacking in comparison. LOL Suppose it would be easier for them if we just lowered our standards instead of them raising theirs'. Uh yeah, that is the impression you give of your country cristina.

I think it is about time we make some DEMANDS of our own

LOL Pretty hard to have anything more to say when dealing with the reality of just how much WE DON'T NEED OR WANT THIS KIND OF CRAP, now isn't it. So much for all the smoke screens and pretty little lies about how wonderful these criminals are.

Iraq Officials to Push for U.S. Support

High - because of the people like you - yes - think about it - because all was only possible because of people like you !

RFLMFAO, boy does your name suit you. Well, at least the abbreviated version.

Oslo – “Being rude will get you nowhere...”
It is fairly difficult not to be when you post crap like ““What brought terrorism, what brought Al Qaeda and what brought Iranian influence is the Americans.” That stupid remark makes it sound like the U.S. went there BEFORE there was such a thing as terrorism or Al Qaeda. But then what do you know of Jim McDermott? Probably nothing, but I have had the misfortune of having to listen to his BS before. If you read closely you will also see that he is completely anti war, and politicians do what they do, spout exaggerations and lies, if it will get people to listen to them. The White House isn’t the only place idiots gather. I may love my country, and prefer to live here than any other I have been in, but I will always be suspicious of and have no regard for politicians, used car salesmen, realtors, pimps, junkies….LOL

Iraq Officials to Push for U.S. Support

“Representative Jim McDermott, an antiwar Democrat from Seattle. “What brought terrorism, what brought Al Qaeda and what brought Iranian influence is the Americans.”

Was this a sarcastic joke taken out of context or something?

And as far as the oil is concerned, I believe they at least owe us enough to cover the billions we have spent over there.

I think it is about time we make some DEMANDS of our own

Just a few example of ...well you'll get the idea.

RE: Does homeopathy work, or is it just placebo nonsense?

Fun guy - “It doesn't. There is not medical effect from homeopathic concoctions besides the placebo one you already mentioned. I'm a research scientist working in drug development. So, I do have some credentials on this …”

RFLMAO, Credentials maybe, but from a cracker jack box if you actually believe this. I, and numerous others that I have made concoctions for, would say the same. VERY curious as to which herbals you have any real experience with however. I would be more inclined to believe that you, like all the other money hungry drug companies, that spend a heck of a lot more on promoting their pills than research and development, and yeah, withhold viable medicines if it would mean losing money on another…are just interested in the paycheck, not what is actually the most beneficial.
And might be interesting to know that REAL doctors (the ones who actually care about the welfare of the patient over the chemical kickbacks) are looking to these alternative methods. One even gave me a list of a few to research/experiment with since those nasty little poison pills were only doing harm, not any good.

RE: Whats Ur Favorite thing to eat for breakfast?

There is only one thing, and I have it every morning, no matter where I am (and believe me that list is extensive) and under any circumstances (have had to get a bit creative), but Lord help anyone who comes within range if I don't get my morning MOCHA!devil tongue rolling on the floor laughing

Iraq Officials to Push for U.S. Support

The overall ignorance in your first post only made me laugh at the lame attempts to insult. Didn't offend me, just made me feel pity for you.

By all means, if you can find a problem with my english, or my reasoning, point it out instead of popping off.

Iraq Officials to Push for U.S. Support

WASHINGTON (AP) - Worried Congress' support for Iraq is deteriorating rapidly, Baghdad dispatched senior officials to Capitol Hill this week to warn members one-on-one that pulling out U.S. troops would have disastrous consequences….Baghdad's ability to sell members like Coleman, R-Minn., and Chambliss, R-Ga., on the war effort is critical if the Iraqi government wants U.S. troops to stay….With the clock ticking, Saleh _ a Kurdish politician highly regarded by U.S. officials and who speaks impeccable English _ said he came to Capitol Hill to convey the "imperative of success" in Iraq.
"Iraq is a central battleground in this historic conflict" against terrorism, he said in a brief interview after meeting with Reid, the Senate majority leader.
The timing of these meetings is no mistake. This month, Congress is expected to send Bush legislation that funds the war in Iraq but requires the Baghdad government meet certain political and security reforms. In question is what consequences the Iraqis should face if they fail. Democrats want U.S. troops to leave, Republicans say they don't want to force redeployments, but some say they would be open to withholding more than $5 billion in foreign aid.

…The most recent irritant among U.S. lawmakers was a report that Iraqi officials would break for two months this summer.

"Our armed forces are up to 150,000 troops; we're over $600 billion appropriated for this, lost 3,300 lives, 25,000 wounded fellow citizens. ... And the Iraqi answer? We're taking a summer off. Goin' fishing," said Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill.

Saleh said he expects the vacation to be shortened by at least a month, although nothing had been decided. He added that Iraqis value being independent and do "not take kindly of (U.S. officials) telling us when to recess."

I guess this puts an END to the idea that the US is invaders, when we are actually being begged to stay, while they take a vacation no less!!!!

Does anyone else think this is way out of line? Does anyone else see this as a bunch of lazy cowards just trying to take advantage of the US, making us do their dirty work for them? And where does anyone see what we are getting out of it? IF they want us there so badly, they could at least PAY FOR IT. And why are we paying penny one for all of this when they have enough oil to cover the costs? Considering the way they play over there, seems to me that the military should be brought back home, and then any mercenary type that is willing to do it for a paycheck FROM IRAQ, NOT THE US, can go if they want.

RE: How do you view the law?

I think the big problem with the question/issue, is that some view an issue as being political/moral, while another sees it the opposite. Take the gay rights issue for example. Some say no gay rights. On the one hand it can be political because of all the laws and crap that would have to be rewritten/defined, especially in the "marriage" area. To others it is moral, as they believe that being gay is a sin, and that "marriage" is between a man and a woman. Too hard to say who is, isn't being "protected" in this issue. Should those who have respect for the institution of marriage as it has always been defined be protected or the ones who want to alter the definition to suit their needs?
Illegal immigrants are another tricky one. Some say it is immoral to keep them out, others say it is immoral for them to keep breaking the law by coming here the way they do, etc. Their are also political arguments on both sides of this issue.

First you would have to sort out which laws were ONLY moral or political before you could even answer the question.

And the truth is that politicians are about the most immoral group in general, so would we really want them having anything to do with it? LOL

RE: Imagine what would be ...if we all stand up and say no...

Netter – “you dont think you are a bit arrogant, respect the opinions of other people too even if they are not from the US.”
Not because they aren't from the US, because they don’t know jack about it. I also question the intelligence of anyone who forms opinions simply due to the media, and not first hand. Anyone stupid enough to believe all the propaganda…

Oslo – “See, that's part of the problem, not wanting to hear what other people have to say...”
LOL I read your posts, just don’t buy into things I KNOW aren’t true on your “say so”.

Liter – “And why not apply the same principles of jurisprudence to people overseas that are applied in American courts? Namely you're innocent until proven guilty.”
RFLMAO Didn’t you know, in Mexico you are guilty until proven innocent? They want things their way, I say go with that one.

”Will you quit bashing illegal immigrants? Show me one study by a reputable organization that shows that illegal aliens cause a crime spike.”
Not bashing, just say what is and ain’t. Called reality. If you want stats, run a search on prison populations. If you claim to be so literary, LOL, should be a piece of cake.

”Again you don't speak for all Americans. Just speak for yourself"
Nope, not all, just every one I know, and IF you read, you'll see I'm not the only poster on this site alone who feels that way.

High – “By the way .. there are more as 4.5 million Americans living abroad .. number is growing by the year .. and they are not Military.”
What's your point? Check how many of them are going there illegally and commit crimes etc while there.

“As a result, year after year, most Americans are kept in the dark, unaware of the actual, the real America--the only kind seen by much of the rest of the world.”
LOL You really are lost aren’t you? Yeah, right, the media is all you have to go on, and while you bash it, you believe it LOL Sorry, but not even interested in reading the rest of your illusions.

Plarkin – “Can we be any more ignorant and misinformed? Iraq was not in a mess, indeed Iraq was one of the bright spots in the Middle east. Its women were free and its population the best educated amongst all Arab countries.”
You MUST be incredibly ignorant and misinformed to even post that. And…
“Norway also tops the list of best places to live.”
Ran a search. Not tops on this list.

or this one

or this one

closest I could find was one just for cities, Norway doesn’t come up until #26

Netter – “read what high and plarkin are writing on here they tell you more the truth than media do!”
RFLMAO, yeah right!

OMK – “you're wasting your time debating this issue with this lot...what I've noticed happening on this site is...instead of commenting on the subject...they seem to pile on the poster...screaming about lack of intelligence...basicly calling ANYONE who they disagree with..." ignorant "...or...an " idiot”
Noticed that too did ya’? LOL I posted links to show them how stupid they were, not just insults. Disgusting tactic, speaks to the mentality and character of those who use it.

High – “What you state here stinks like foul left over of the lowest part of body”
And I thought that was a response to your posts. Would be dead on.

RE: Attention International People

LOL What can I tell you, I like a good joke in the morning with my mocha to start my day.

RE: Attention International People

Had to laugh reading through this thread. Can relate to the frustration of the OP, as it seems we get bombarded with messages/emails/scams from other countries (just got 2 from Pakistan this morning). And it IS irritating when people act like they never read what you wrote in the profile, just respond to a picture, that's pretty rude as well.
But really got to laughing at all the vicious posts by those from other countries. Especially the ones spouting venom, calling the OP this and that. Sure don't sound any more kind, sensitive...much less fair. For everyone of you that lashed out like you did, consider yourself hypocrites.thumbs down

RE: ok time to bring this place back to normal....

LOL Like Vinny Mac?

I think it is about time we make some DEMANDS of our own

"But suffice it to say, nearly all modern 'Americans' are the descendants of immigrants...."

But I am guessing they came here LEGALLY.

"On a serious note some small-minded people blame every ill in society on illegal aliens."

But they are a minority, as most just see illegals as causing the “ills” that they ARE responsible for.

I think it is about time we make some DEMANDS of our own

Immigration rallies to demand citizenship path
Protesters to take to streets across U.S., want to spur Congress to action

DEMAND that no criminals are treated with kid gloves, much less given special, preferential treatment.

DEMAND that our laws be respected.

DEMAND that our country take care of its citizens first.

Yup, gonna do a search to see if any of this crap is going to go on around here, make my own sign..."JUST SAY NO TO PROTECTION AND PRIVLIGES FOR CRIMINALS"

RE: ok time to bring this place back to normal....

Oh, almost forgot, what is "normal" for this site anyway?confused

RE: ok time to bring this place back to normal....

"By "bent" he means gay!"

Seriously? Never heard that one before. I used to say "get bent" or "she was so bent" meaning bent out of shape, upset, etc. LOL Good thing the boss didn't know about that slang term or she really would have been bent about me using it.

RE: Imagine what would be ...if we all stand up and say no...

LOL Guess I just don't see a big difference between the two, Freudian slip?

RE: what are the best reasons not to drink?

#1. I love my car. Antique muscle cars don't last long if you wrap them around telephone polls. Had mine since '88 and not giving him up ever.

#2. Just 2 beers and I need a babysitter because the whole world is just tooooo funny, and I can easily be talked into crazy stuff. At least I have been told that I am very entertaining LOL But no sitters handy, no drinking!!!

RE: Do you see yourself in your children?

Would be hard NOT to see myself in them. I have been told "You couldn't lie your way outta that one" because they look so much like me. My daughter, almost identical in every way, including attitudes and such. Sometimes I swear I hear the theme of the Twilight Zone playing.

RE: Was your name shortened when younger and did you like it

Hmm, they didn't shorten my first name, they ignored it completely!!! Took my hyphenated middle name, and just tried to use the first half as my first name. Yeah, a lot of teachers on the first day of school would get ticked when I didn't answer during roll call. Told them point blank, "Didn't know you were talking to me. That's not my name."

RE: * Forum changes will be installed tonight *

Ok, I'll be the oddball, I liked the place better before these changes.crying Don't like the way these pages lay out now.

RE: should british policemen be allowed to carry guns (ordinary police constables) to tackle gun crime

As another has already said, not a local so not really SURE, but with all the rioting and such going on over there, I think they should be allowed to have them. In a country that isn't used to that, it may be such a significant deterent that it could cause violent people to restrain themselves.

RE: I try to work things out on my own...but I sure could use some advice from y'all

"he is 50 and afraid no one will hire him if he moves out here."

You already said you had a friend who would give him a job.

"AND he has 2 children there,"

THAT is pertinent.

“I will defend him when it comes to someone calling him names because he is a wonderful man......

LOL just going by what you posted.

"Also the fear of him getting sick or hurt and being 10 hours away."

That’s all???? Why such a big deal?

RE: Would you date someone 10 or more years older or younger than you?

I have always said that age is a state of mind more so than a matter of time. And yes, if the age difference was the only "issue" 10 years would be ok (in the past I dated one man 11 years older). I would just have to draw the line where it gets to the point where my significant other was in the same generation as my kids. That would be creepy, not just for me, but my kids would be cringing LOL

RE: Hospital information

I figured that since there were supposed to be doctors, but weren't, I could reverse the cellphone rule too. But it was in an office, not the ER. Yeah, I usually take it outside if I am somewhere that I could stop a heart monitor or something LOL Not out to kill anyone, well, maybe the doc or a nurse or two hehehehe

When I was in labor, and a doc that I knew was an idiot came in, as my regular one was out of town, I took one look at him, kicked him hard enough to knock the wind out of him, and then did it by myself more or less. (I still get a grin when I picture him lying there on the floor gasping for breath. May have actually earned his pay that day LOL.) Not letting that freak touch me or my kid (previous experience with this creep, so I knew he was incompetent).

I suppose some may call this a reincarnation.
