RE: Leagalize marajuana?

Well, that is one example that defies these "experts".

Now to address the "professor"...

"Stereotype?"

Yup.

"I guess the studies must be wrong then..."

Yup.

"Studies have shown, though, that cannabis does trigger an increase in appetite, hence "having the munchies." "The munchies" is usually a desire for sweet and fatty treats, ..."

Did you see the word "usually"? That is one way they get around the fact that it is only an opinion and not a hard and fast rule. Not everyone is stupid enough to go for bad food, and not everyone gets the munchies either. Save these "facts" for people who don't have any self control. Same reason for ANYONE to gain weight, whether they smoke weed or not. Goes to personality, not the substance.

"Studies also show that individuals who regularly smoke pot gain weight over time."

Ok, in 7th grade I was 4'9" and weighed 125lbs, and didn't smoke the stuff. By 9th grade I was 5'2" and weighed the same 105-110lbs that I still am today. NEEEEEEEXXXXXXT!

"HIV/AIDS patients who need to gain weight, for example, eat more when they smoke cannabis."

Sure, which is just one reason why it should be legalized. Although I think it may be slightly psychological in some cases. But still, if it does benefit people who are suffering, why shouldn't they be allowed to have it?

"Based on what is known, marijuana does not influence metabolism. In other words, what you eat matters just as it would if you were not high on pot."

And, for some, it increases their activity level. Ever see anyone get antsy after smoking it? I have. For some it stimulates the imagination/curiosity, and actually promotes activity of some kind.
...

"That being said.. if your diet is jacked and you don't eat normally... you -will- gain weight as a result. How many of the marijuana smokers on the forums eat what you'd call similar to a 'normal' diet? I'm curious as to this answer, and if you answer yes, what you call a normal diet."

A normal diet, for me, first and foremost is my morning mocha LOL and no, I don't smoke the stuff first thing in the morning. LOL After that, lean meats like steak and chicken breasts, fruits and vegetables, lots of milk and juice. Sure, we have mega chocolate going through this house, but as I have already stated my weight (and how dare you even prompt a lady to do such a thing rolling on the floor laughing) for the past 30 years, I think I have debunked your myth as to those who smoke pot automatically lose control of what they eat, and how much.

"We seem designed for 'tribalism' -- and so the patterns that connect us are often lost to sight. How do we throw off these blinkers?"

You claim that we are designed for tribalism. Isn't being a member of this "tribe" being connected?
The middle part made NO sense to me at all.

"change our language, and we change our minds."
And just what language do you suggest? I would think tone and attitude would be as, if not more important than language. Perhaps I am taking you too literally, if so please explain what you meant.

LOL Yep, so far I would flunk this seminar because I had no clue what teach was trying to say.

To Americans living in America

Just wanted to pull these two lines out of the above.

"It is hard to know 'who is at fault' unless we actually have accurate and comprehesenive information about what happened.

Perhaps more important is how people react to these incidents: do they learn, do they assume responsibility for their parts in the incident, do they do better the next time? Or do they descend into bitterness and recrimination?"

IF people got the true facts about everything, what would the world be like?

IF people thought before they acted/reacted/over reacted, what would the world be like?

Me, I just wish they would.

Could do a whole thread with these concepts alone.

Good news! As a person who knows a lot of stuff that would only come up once in a blue moon, therefore useless to most, I have found a perfect use. You can RULE in the game Trivial Pursuit rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Leagalize marajuana?

"We will be an even fatter country though, due to overeating."

Another mythical stereotype. Back in the days when just about everyone I knew smoked it, the "crowd" was generally thinner or average (and that was when average DIDN'T mean obese). Now, the largest people I know are the ones who don't smoke it. If you want to fight obesity (and boy howdy just let me know how I can help with that one, as it is one of my biggest sources of disgust with the people in this country) go after processed and fast food, or for that matter, all those who try to make lame excuses for filling two seats.

Naw, I don't think we should waste our time doing all this research. Like how they got to Mexico from where ever, should be dealt with by Mexico. Much simpler to just make one rule for everybody. If they aren't here legally, boot them out.

RE: A Song for an Ex... Write one or express one

I remember years ago a guy joking about his ex and playing a song that I don't really remember well, but some of the lyrics were...
"I used to love her
but I had to kill her
and now she's buried in my backyard."

To Americans living in America

“I am just born here, no choice sweet half sister...”

WAY out of line insulting my sister like that, as if you could hold a candle to her, especially when she is dead and can’t respond.

“How does turnabout make you right? We ARE those killers. What don't you get?”
I think you misinterpreted what I wrote. I meant that I also know what it is like to have my friends and family killed by those in and from other countries. And it is a point blank lie to say that “WE” are the killers. Maybe YOU have been guilty of murder, but I haven't, and don’t know anyone who has killed anyone.

RE: Bunny care

YIKES! That sounds horrid. Luckily, due to all the other wildlife, I always use a very fine mesh for any enclosures so that nothing foreign can get in. Also make sure the pen is away from where your neighbors can hurt them with pesticides and such.

Why should we...
"There is still a lot we can do to help neighboring countries create good jobs at home."
when we still have unemployed Americans? Shouldn't we be putting our efforts into creating jobs here?

To Americans living in America

TabooN – “We come from religious idiots ...
then, we decide the natives are too scary to understand. Damned savage red skins...
So, we force our way in.”

That would be an example of people pretending to know what we are all like, and you live here! Thought you would know better than that. Neither of the above statements are true for me, or many others. Well, except for…
“they do however understnad what it feels like to have thier families killed.”
Because mine have been. Are only people from other countries allowed to resent it?

DamnitsCloudy - “not once have they ever said anything negative about me as a person or where I came from.”
Probably because they actually got to know you. I would hope things like these forums would help enlighten others to the fact that we are not all little Bush wannabees, warmongers, or even have any interest (outside of normal curiosity and such) in what they do, as long as they leave everyone else alone.
But
“I wish more people were like that...then there'd be no govt and if I see a woman than I'd knock her out and drag her to my cave ”
Better make sure she isn’t one of those that spends all her time at the gym, or she could end up dragging you off to…LOL

arabella – “How about turning the other cheek, treating them with a friendly attitude and kindness?”
I do “blow them off” unless they try to follow, which they do. Some won’t let you walk away. I give as good as I get for the most part, except that when I find them acting so stupid I find it comical, I just laugh. Some of the ideas I hear from other countries are just hysterical.

“Remember back at Christmas, when everyone here was greeting each other with the warmth and spirit of the season?”
I remember mostly how Christians were being disallowed to engage in timeless traditions. Peace wreaths banned, nativity sceens banned…

native_grl38 - “All politics SUCKS it's a universal thing!!!!”
RFLMAO!!! Boy do I agree with that!

Scarlett1417 – “There are rude people all over the world, but one should not judge a whole country by the actions of a few.”
Exactly! The same way I don’t think that all people from, well, say OostZaan for instance, are completely without merit.
“I was asked on more than one occassion if I was an American because I was genuinely interested in what they had to say.”
guitarplayer00 – “my travels I have seen that many times people thought I was not american,,in Hungary they thought I was Italian...”
I find it humorous when I am told that I don’t speak or act like an American when in another country. I always ask, “So just exactly what do you THINK an American speaks/acts like?” My tone informs them that they are way off base. Just an example of those who have been laughed at.

Random_Stranger – You speak for yourself, not for the majority. I can take that remark on obesity and object (as I could to your other remarks that don’t apply to a lot of people) since I'm NOT fat. Just one example of how you buy into the stereotypes. But you are young, and have a lot to see, so I chalk it up to a simple lack of experience and exposure.

Jess642 – “I would say I dont have an icicles chance in hell to be able to assume I knew anything about Americans, I just know people, a little bit”
But you speak as a person with some common sense. Seems to be a rare trait these days. Wish more people would get some.

Frenchgirl2know – “Question Mrs LOLjuzme:
Where are the most of your ancestry coming from sweet Lady???????????
Would you like to know my answer?”
Couldn’t care less what your answer is really. But thanks loads for giving me a reason for being slightly embarrassed that I do have a bit of French blood. You are NOT a complimentary example of the French.

Raynew – not ALL French people are so horrid, sorry that they treated you that way, just wasn’t right.

To Americans living in America

Are you getting a bit sick and tired of people from other countries PRETENDING they know what we are, how we live, what we think...? Especially when they are so WRONG 99% of the time.

RE: Organ Donors....

I have already signed the necessary paperwork for my entire carcass to be donated to the University of Washington when I am gone.
1) I think it is silly for people to pay thousands of dollars to deal with remains, as if the departed actually care. I sure don't.
2) Do not want my kids to lose any of their inheritance paying for something this stupid. Told them point blank that if they even attempt to claim my remains I would haunt them for it. I have worked to leave them something for themselves, not to be blowing it on something as useless as my remains. I care about as much as to what is done with my corpse as most people do about the shell of an egg they toss in the trash.
4) I do not believe that when you die you can be "found" in some hole in the ground where people go to leave flowers and such.
5) After having my mother's ashes in my possession, it just kinda grossed me out whenever anyone referred to that box of ashes as my MOM. I made my brother scatter them in the river behind her dream house, so they could go to the ocean and be with those of my sister.
6) I have always said that as long as I am good for a laugh I am good for something, so even if my tattoo makes a stressed out med student laugh, I have done some good.

RE: FINDING LOVE AS A SINGLE PARENT AINT EASY

First of all, stop blaming any of this on the kids. You had them, you owe them. And how they feel about things has to do with the way you raised them to a degree, a high degree. If you weren't prepared to deal with being a mom first, never should have had them.
Next, as far as relocating to another country, whether it be for a man, a job, whatever, why not? If you can do it LEGALLY of course, it is definitely good for kids to see other parts of the world, especially those that teach them beneficial things, like tolerance, diversity...(and let them be an influence to others) I up and left the country with mine and it was no problem, except for lugging the rootbeer since it wasn't available where we went. You do have the choice of relocating back if things don't go as well as you had hoped.
I think age also has a lot to do with it. When I left, one of my kids was over 18, and was well established with a job and all, so he stayed in the US. Was hard not to see him as much, but between phone calls, internet, and our visits back, we almost saw him as much as any parent sees their kid after they have moved away from home.
As far as kids holding you back in dating, only if they are brats or something I would imagine. One man I told point blank, "No way I would ever marry you because I can't stand your kids." Another wanted to marry me because he wanted kids but couldn't have his own. Ya' just never know.

RE: i'm disgusted !!

Can't really blame Hollywood for giving the people what they want, along with all those movies, some actually think the lives of celebrities are entertaining. I have NEVER understood why anyone cares what celebs do in the first place. What they are doing, what they are wearing, who they are doing... I just plain don't care. But, if it weren't for all those nosey people who don't have enough of a life of their own, that they eat this stuff up, none of those magazines would be in print in the first place. Those are the ones who are PAYING for this kind of stuff to go on. Those are the ones who disgust me, the ones prompting this kind of behavior. For Hollywood it is just a matter of supply and demand.

“You want to keep people out? Help them achieve, in their own countries, what they would be otherwise looking for in the US.”
Couldn’t possibly disagree with this more. Enough with the foreign aid already. These countries have gotten so accustomed to hand outs that it may be part of the reason they are so lazy about improving their own countries ON THEIR OWN in the first place.
In response to “"There is no evidence linking immigrant (legal or illegal) to higher crime rates....”
Excuse me, but just the fact that they come here ILLEGALLY makes them criminals, so each and every one is contributing to the higher crime rate.

RE: Leagalize marajuana?

True. Just another false assumption that these people would but the mass produced stuff. "Store bought" is usually lower in quality than "homemade" no matter what it is. LOL Cookies for example, never buy those, make my own. I already grow my own culinary herbs and don't buy store bought, so why wouldn't I just grow my own marijuana too? Also, those who actually do know about marijuana, and growing it, also know that the govt would mess with it to increase their profits. Just an erroneous misconception that all marijuana smokers are idiots.

What I always find very humorous is how many people have honored "potheads" for centuries. Heck, we not only elected one as our first president, we named a state and numerous other things after him, and even put his face on the one dollar bill rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing Yeah, all "potheads" are moronic scum huh?rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Boycott

LOL I am guessing that the problem with native american gift shops is that they lie about the stock, which actually comes from Japan a lot of the time. Just imitations.
As far as Mel Gibson goes, some are still hung up on a few remarks he made when he was drunk, as if drunks never say stupid things that don't even make sense to them the next day. LOL

RE: Friendly fire video unearthed!!

"I can't see how this tape being viewed by the family does anyone, any good"

Can't speak for anyone else, but, I lost my love in a different conflict, and the military refused to give out any information at all as to how it happened. NO answers just makes it harder to deal with it. Sure, I think the families should be allowed to know what happened, if THEY want to know. I know there are some that wouldn't want to know all the "ugly details". As far as broadcasting it for everyone, having so many more rehashing it would just make it harder for me to "put it in the past".

RE: Leagalize marajuana?

LOL you say that as if you assume they don't. I can tell you from having seen it with my own eyes, a LOT of "potheads" do a lot of research, especially when they are growing their own.

Sorry, but I always feel the need to interject a bit of reality when others live in a mythical world filled with erroneous ideas and stereotypes.rolling on the floor laughing head banger

RE: Are "Parents" Still Considered "People"

REAL parents are people who have accepted the fact that someone else will come first for at least 18 years. Any that think otherwise, were not people who should have had kids in the first place. Sure, as they get older and don't need a sitter etc, you do get more freedom, but you do have to be patient.
