George W. Bush took earlier administrations' power of reckless militarism and unilateralism, seizing the moment after 9/11 to declare to all nations:
"Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. " !!!???? From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime." In other words: We demand global capitulation and support for war to whatever we declare Terror..
Look around the world at the results of U.S. strategies. Rhetoric about democracy and free trade has masked the enforcement of political and economic subordination to the United States and U.S.-based multinational corporations. The people of Latin America, much of Africa and the Middle East, and many parts of Asia can offer compelling testimony to the impact of those policies, enforced now through more than 700 U.S. military bases spread across the globe in over 130 countries.
Imagine what would be possible if we -- ordinary citizens of this latest empire -- could build a movement that gave politicians no choice but to do the right thing.
Imagine what is possible if we work to make inevitable one day what seems improbable today -- the justice that makes possible real peace.
Hi, you make good points. I hear so much criticism of Mr Bush from all over - isnt it about time somebody started a call for impeachment? some good pointers for cases against him can be found on the Neil Young song; Lets Impeach The President. There is apparently a guy called Barak Obama standing against him who represents some of the things you mention. I agree, lets do the right thing Trish
The majority of the world did stand up and say no to bush but he didn't listen and him and his master strategist Karl Rove were able to manipulate the people again.
Did you know it was Clinton's idea to give a credit for child care but bush increased that credit and gave a little tax cut that might purchase a tank of gas and a bag of chips and so many poor people were taken in by this big display of generosity (sarcasim) and whatever the media said (ignorance, but not sarcasim) that he was given a second term to harm our Country more and believe me American's will be paying for bush's arrogance, stubborness, greediness, and stupidy for many years to come. Mr. Brilliant and all his brillant advisors (sarcasm) helped bin laden more than they got justice for 9/11. Most of the world and many of the smartest and best (not greedy) Americans were able to realize this.
If it was up to me not one of our young soldiers would have shed a drop of blood for the legency bush so badly wanted to create and the unetical way he wanted to take control of another countries resources and excert more control in the Middle East. He created a legacy of the worst president in the history of the US.
The crux of the matter is that people often seem to lack in empathy towards the suffering of other people. This sometimes happens because the 'other' threatens them in some way; a simple matter of self-interest. This is true of everybody. However, prejudice and ignorance too are often behind the lack of empathy. And that too affects just about everybody. Nobody is one hundred percent self-sacrificing and altruistic and nobody is above prejudice and ignorance. Thus there are no better people or worse people. There are just people. And no, I dont think I am better than her or anybody who holds an opinion contrary to mine. I also admit to having made a snide comment and apologize.
Migrants to the USA is an issue which like all issues can be most convincingly argued both ways. It has to be remembered though that the law has little to do with the notion of justice and even less to do with the idea of fairness. Further the 'law' is always, I repeat always, the law of the dominating group in society.
If one's sense of humanity comprises the interest of only oneself then an idea of 'fairness' cannot exist. The more people that are included in one's perspective, the wider one's sympathies for others. It is sympathy that is at issue over here and not the law or the justice that it dictates. You can have sympathy for others even though their existence may pose a threat to yours - or at least perceived to be so. (At extremes, soldiers of opposing armies feel for each other as amply demonstrated in war). So, to disregard the needs, aspirations and sufferings of people whose activity is perhaps inimical to your interests reduces your breadth of mind and awareness of human existence in its many many states. In the long run it is also most counter-productive for your own purposes. You would not want to be ignored, dismissed and rejected when history changes your fortunes. And history does change and change all the time in the most surprising and unexpected ways.
he has set a precedent and so has our electd representatives and senators... shame on them more so than the president. our system was dsigned with checks and balances unfortunately that system is faulty..beit beacuse of instant information or the readily available access to create false information.
either way the presidents histroy before politics reeals he ain't no eistein, or roosevelt or professor in economics....
no way can a village idiot do such damage unless he was allowed. to those politicains still in office your day of accountable should come first... before taking the president behind the tool shed.
think how those of the other end of spectrum could use the powerthat bush has amassed since 9/11 and how they would use it.....thats scary too. nope the problem lies withn the house of congress and the senate chambers. to many great individuals beguiled bty a village idiot.....
again what has occurred lies at the feet of our congressmen and senators...... remember the check and balances of democracy???
yeah this constant repeating "no" will make us thirsty too can I sit at or near a place that serves cold beverage cause i too believe its gonna be a long long time of sayin "no"
Agree, Bush vetoed withdrawal from Iraq yesterday, so yes, I think it will be a loooooong time, but then again maybe that's why its important to start soon?
If the Congress had the balls they would now simply do nothing. Let the funds for the war run out. This is how the Vietnam war was ended; however, we know Bush is psychotic, he'd keep the troops over there without funding and blame the Democrats when the troops ran out of things they need.
Isn't it ironic that Dubya is now saying that let the commanders decide matters about the war and not politicians! Guess who ordered the war in the first place?
