When Japan attack Pearl Harbor it was over oil. I am pretty sure US envolvement in Iraq is over oil. The question is will Russia and China not go to war when oil becomes needed.
In this current economy having a job longer than a year is becoming rather rare. People will adapt when they have too. But you are right recession is coming nearer as more layoffs spread.
We do not know all the facts of the case and it is hard and inappropiate to pass judgement. The person maybe a conscious objecter to the War on Iraq which from my point of view is an illegal war brought on by incompetent politicians.
He may very well be upholding the constitution of the US by his AWOL action. And if he gets a good lawyer he could take it to the supreme court and maybe exercise a check on the power of the presidency.
No hard feelings to those who want to crucify him.
