Anybody else think it is wrong?.....

.....I can rest assure you I do not have any distorted views....It looks like nobody understood what I was talking about.....anyway....not to worry...I'm sure somebody will think of something interesting to talk about before the Irish Forums die completely....sorry for boring you.....perhaps you have something really exciting to discuss..???

Anybody else think it is wrong?.....

Well...it might look funny to SOME adults but do you think it is suitable for 6 and 7 year olds?....

Anybody else think it is wrong?.....

Anybody else think it is wrong?.....

I was down at my Mum's house last weekend and my brother from Cork was there with his family....his children are a lot younger than mine......anyway....my sister-in-law told me about the Religious Education book that their youngest child, who is 7, was being taught in the Catholic School just outside Cork City...the same one I'm sure that is being taught all over the country.....She opened up her laptop to show me what she was referring to.....I was totally shocked....I could not believe that, in Ireland today, after all the awful things that have come to light in recent year's....it was unbelievable!.... On their religion book is a caption of a young girl ( albeit only in a drawing) with her face captioned in total fear.....sitting on her bed without any of the attributes of a fully grown woman.....a large caption of the 'Angel Gabriel' standing at the end of her bed....the heading on the lesson says 'SAY YES'...There is then a Maze that the children have to fill in where Gabriel has to find Mary who then says 'YES'...Does anybody think this is right teaching in Irish Catholic Schools when all parents in this day and age are consistently warning their children to never listen to strangers????... and here we have a caption of a young girl in what she assumes to be the safety of her bedroom being told it is ok to say yes to a stranger in her room??... I could not believe my eyes.....just wondering if anybody else has heard abou this?....

RE: Paris Attacks

.....well to me it looks like all the promises of massive security etc. being put in place after the Charlie Hebdo tragedy was a complete waste of resources.....one day after that awful tragedy in Paris France was able to mobilise aircraft to pinpoint targets thousands of miles away and yet they did not know what was going on under their own feet....

RE: Fight terrorism with terror???

....Hi Chris.....I think that this horrendous murder by these terrorists must be one of the biggest embarrassments to all the Security Services around Europe....up against the might and intelligence sources of the best a country can provide these murderers were able to coordinate these simultaneous attacks......how many months of preparation did these attacks take and they were able to do it under the radar of the people whose job it is to protect it's citizens.....France and others are able to pinpoint terrorist targets in countries thousands of miles away but they are not capable of targeting who are on their own doorstep.....in the meantime Germany and the rest of Europe continue to allow access to tens of thousands of people who, on the law of averages are harbouring more replacements for any terrorists who may or may not be uncovered by the Security Forces and who will be ready and willing to continue with their horrendous objectives......

RE: Wear your poppy with pride?

....how about a bit of peace on here so?......you're not too bad yourself when it comes to voicing your opinions on here.....you're well able to stir things up when the humour takes you.....

RE: Wear your poppy with pride?

correction "by the End of the War"....

RE: Wear your poppy with pride?

....I'm sure we would all agree that this is a most moving and poignant poem....that being said....at the beginning of WW1 a large amount of young Irish men (mostly, by the way, aged between 17 and 19 decided to fight with Britain.)....most of those young men were running from abject poverty.....the Irish soldiers were treated like dirt by their Captains etc in the British Army......that is a fact....Ireland, at the time, were in the middle of trying to get away from being ruled and subservient to Britain.......by the end of the War the number of recruits from Ireland had dropped dramatically...I'm not sure how many, but I think it was around 30,000 Irish soldiers that were killed in the War...they had been fed a story that Ireland might be invaded by the Germans.....as far as I am concerned it would go totally against the grain in me to see anybody in Ireland wearing a poppy to commemorate WW1....perhaps we should wear some other flower to commemorate our own freedom.....albeit not total......

RE: Wear your poppy with pride?

RE: GERMANY ,,, WHERE ARE WE NOW ? ,,,,, GOES ON !!!

To me it seems ironic that the very person who has dictated to everybody over the past 8 year's when every last penny is squeezed out of ordinary working people....nobody can do absolutely anything without being told by them how to do it....she comes along and is allowed to make this massive mistake of her own free will....a blind man could see month's ago that only a small percentage were genuine refugees....Germany may have lost the war 70 year's ago but they are now running Europe under their own terms.....all we have now is the end result of the West shoving their noses in for years in places that should have been left to sort out their own mess in the first place.......

RE: Well done Germany

....If the reasons you give for there being so many young men amongst the migrants these reasons do, in my opinion, open up other questions.....if their reason for leaving women, children and old people behind to fend for themselves against ISIS but that they intend sending for them when they get settled in their new country does this mean that the quota of migrants who are being allotted to different countries is indeed only a tiny fraction of the figures who will end up living there?.... Will they be asked at the borders how many more family members will be joining them so that countries can take this into account when providing accommodation etc?.....why if the vast majority of these young men are indeed Syrian refugees are about 70% of them arriving at borders without any passports or identification?... What have they to hide if they are indeed refugees from Syria?....it is my opinion that a large majority of them are not from Syria at all and believe that by not having passports or id they would stand a better chance of claiming refugee status....I do agree with you that it was horrendous what happened the Native Americans but this was not inititated by the Irish in the first place.....I can understand the comparison between the coffin ships on which many thousands of Irish perished and the plight of the migrants in the awful tragedies that have befallen some of them.....as I have said already Europe should, of course, help GENUINE refugees but there will be a tremendous amount of unrest if huge groups of young men arrive in countries where their expectation of a better life possibly does not come to fruition if cities and towns across Europe find themselves overwhelmed by the entire fiasco....

RE: Well done Germany

...I suppose if they did that they would then have to re-label the entire crisis and tell the world that they are wrong in calling it solely a massive humanitarian crisis.....all people arriving thus far are being portrayed for the most part as escaping utter devastation in a war torn country.....They don't want to back track.....yet anyway...

RE: Well done Germany

....I suspect very very soon when they are being overrun by people panicking when other countries are closing borders and entry is becoming more difficult.....also, when the real panic starts I'd say there will be widespread rioting and mayhem everywhere.....

RE: Well done Germany

Ah, I don't mind what they call me Phoenix to be honest....sometimes it is the ordinary person in the street who can see things more clearly but most do not want to be heard voicing their opinion in case they are seen to be politically incorrect or somehow lacking in empathy.....most of us are willing to help out in some way or other when there is a humanitarian crisis and that is how it should be.....in this instance it looks like the whole scenario unfolding is being portrayed as sheer desperation on the part of everybody arriving in Europe.....I suppose like what happened down the years when futile wars were started in places and the powers that be had to back track afterwards and say they had made a mistake they will, some day, have to admit that things happening in this instance were not all they were portrayed to be either....I hope I'm wrong but we will just have to wait and see I suppose....

RE: Well done Germany

Any time I see footage of this crisis that is unfolding I often notice that the vast majority of the people captured on film are able bodied young men.......why then ( if they are all supposedly escaping from the war in Syria) do they not all have the rest of their families with them?.... Have they left the rest of their family at home to perish?....A couple of weeks ago we were all rightfully very saddened to see the picture of the dead little boy on the beach.....it touched everybody's heart.....of course there are some families in dire straights who are running for their lives and they should be supported in every possible way....on the other hand it looks to me that tens of thousands of young men are using what they see as a once in a lifetime opportunity to start a new life for themselves in a well off European country.....If safety is their only objective why are they being so selective as to where they end up?.... I wonder what proportion are actually from Syria or are there tens of thousands from other poor countries mingling together with the genuine refugees......Also, a lot of the time that a representative of the refugees is interviewed it is nearly always a very educated person....doctor, engineer etc....this gives the impression that the majority of the people arriving in Europe are well trained and educated and would be a great asset to any country.....my opinion would be that the vast vast majority will need a lot of help through education and training in their adapted countries before they will be able to support themselves....(once again I reiterate that I am not talking about GENUINE refugees).... jmo

RE: A pint or a glass ?

That's ok...we believe you!....no brewer's droop so?....

RE: A pint or a glass ?

Sure you'd be good for nothing if you were that boozed up!...laugh

RE: Albert Einstein Says!

.....very impressive!.... could swear it was a whiff of Old Spice I got though!...confused laugh

RE: Albert Einstein Says!

....were you in Galway Shopping Centre last Tuesday by any chance??.....Have a feelin I passed by you.....what sort of aftershave do you use??... Jees u had enough of it on anyway!!...lol

RE: Albert Einstein Says!

.....This is definitely true in my opinion.....intelligent people always use their imagination to come up with new inventions or to write wonderful books and music etc...etc....knowledge is simply stuff stored in our brain about things that were the result of somebody else's imigination.....

RE: How Come??

....that's the elusive question mj.....sometimes when we think we have found it it does not last the way we would like it to....like I said....real life intervenes to spoil our dreams.....

RE: How Come??

No matter what we say about love, lust or anything like that.....life's problems very often intervene to dampen everybody's enthusiasm......if those problems did not arise not many of us on this site would be here looking for other chances at happiness.......

RE: How Come??

....I suppose that is the reason that most of us are walking contradictions....looking for honesty, reliability, fairness, niceness etc in our partners.....but we would also like an edge of challenge and boldness.....finding these attributes together is not an easy task so we often err on the side of excitement and challenge....ie both men and women....

RE: How Come??

...Hi Anna.....I think it is the age old
story that women sometimes fall for guys who have a bit of a devilish side to them and therefore a bit of a challange.....it's ok for women to claim they are looking for somebody reliable, sensible etc....but sometimes it is the fella who is a bit of a devil that we fall for so that we won't die of boredom....jmo...

RE: Has it ever happened to you???...

...I suppose the thing is that if you are madly in love with the person what anybody else would think would not change that as you only see their good points.....all sorts of excuses are made to defend them....any advice given by others would fall on deaf ears....then when there is a breakup friends think they are helping to ease the pain by saying things about him and that you were too good for him etc....in actual fact it only makes you feel worse as you probably knew these things deep down all along yourself but your pride and love would not let you admit them.....

RE: What are you doing for the bank holiday weekend ?

....long ago the bog was one of the best places to find a good strong woman....you could be checking to make sure she was a hard worker as well...just make sure you bring a bottle of tea and a bit of bread and jam to charm her mj..laugh

RE: You, Tourism, Pollution and Destruction, DoesYour Country is Negatively or Posstively Affected by F

.....I remember a few year's ago being shocked at pictures of ex King Juan Carlos of Spain standing proudly beside a dead elephant in Botswana.....how any person could take part in those horrendous sports, not to mention somebody in his position......it is abhorrent.....what message did it send out to others if the then King of Spain thought it was ok??... Then again bull fighting is one of the main attractions in Spain.....absolutely brutal....not if my life depended on it would I attend one of those barbaric events......

RE: Any pure women left in ireland?
