Another theme: gold digger. I understand that literally, as in “gold”. It’s bullion, property, fine art, gems of investment quality, shares… something that generates income or have a market value. What market value has a non-appetizing meal? What income does it generate? What is “gold” in all this?

Of course, outward appearance matters for dating: people, whose physical characteristics deviate markedly from the average, have more difficult to find a date. But I doubt, that it'd be a factor in an established relationship.
Well... the real pancake day - Maslennitsa - is today. The sun is shining, the air smells of towed water, roof brims get dripping icicle, snowdrifts are covered with lace-like crust... and you know that spring is close. On every corner you can buy pancakes - the symbol of the sun - with all possible fillings. The best holiday in my childhood :)
It survived Christianity, Soviet times and surely will survive Putlerism. I am an optimist.
