I only hope that the war situatiion becomes so desperate that we're forced to conscript old men into battle... If 100 years ago aging decrepit generals far behind the trenches had been forced to fight the battle of the Somme perhaps we'd never have had a second world war.
Add the qualifier "whatever normal is" when expressing your desire to be like everybody else again following an horrific illness or injury. Instant rapport with misfits and fat chicks.
American conservatives are armed to the teeth, but American liberals have to find a different way of being a paranoid freak. It's best to look for the root reason why Americans are so defensive.
Japan too is lightyears ahead.... I think this is a brilliant argument against war. If you in the war and particularly if you win it well then you spastic your own posterity.
Which would also explain why Germany is, man for man, the strongest nation in the West. No spoils of war for them created a while different calibre of person.
If you consider it "Make America Great Again" is code for this society of effortless prosperity which older remember in their younger days.
And that's why these same people now turn nationalism and war. This society of effortless prosperity could only exist through the spoils of war, the post-war generation was spoilt by the spoils of war.
There's a really good book about it which explains how a generation(particularly in the US)became accustomed to effortless prosperity and how it's affected them morally, how the sense of right & wrong was lost by what is basically good luck nurturing pronounced sociopathic traits into an entire generation(on average).
Why belief in Karma - you get what you give - became popular with those born between the 1940s and 60s is of course a macabre charade. There will have been a birth year in the perhaps early 1970s where karma briefly applied - Born before this year you get more than you give, born after you get less than you give.
I read somewhere that 1942 was the perfect year to be born to get more than you'll ever give. Over the course of a lifetime no one else would have to do so little to get so much(on average).
If nothing else I like to be ahead of the curve. I was border conscious before nationalism, Brexit before Brexit, and now I'll be left-wing revival before the revival of the left-wing.
I voted for the party that did much better than expected. I vote for balance in the force anyway not necessarily the party I want to win. There's been Grenfell Tower and the dark side wanted to take the rations away from disabled people and charge them 55p a minute to call up the government helpline, thanks to balance that helpline is now free. There's such a thing as necessary evil and there are warped bullied at public school boys utterly detached from the lives of ordinary people.
