Use the filters to block certain areas and countries and that cuts down on the crap.

For anyone who might need it, a very smart 14yo (of course) Jacob has made a page on FB as his way of doing something to help people in the floods. It is connecting people, and animals who are trying to find out about friends, relatives in the flooded areas

It is "missing persons/animals-Qld floods" on FB, so far it has 'found/reunited' 14 people.

Well done Jacob.

Heard him on the radio this morning, his parents found out what he had done from the TV!! What a great kid.

I think it is more like stop screwing the earth you have been given. Destroying farming land, fouling waterways with oil spills, industrial waste, sending chemicals into the air, killing whales to the point of extinctiond and hundreds of other animals for that matter....... just my thoughs

How about we start by abandoning the idea of a $40bn (billion) Super Fast Broadband Network and plough some of that money into fixing up Qld (and other states) devastated by these floods??

What good is super fast internet to these people now - none whatsoever, they don;t have power and won't for weeks maybe months.

I've got a feeling most of the big charities/op shops always have a store of good quality, useable clothes for times such as we are seeing now.

That way they just unlock the warehouse and pack it off straight away to where it is needed.

Thank God for the Salvos, Red Cross, Lifeline, we are so going to need them in the coming weeks.

Lot of people will loose communication-power switched off in thousands of homes, mobile batteries will run out and no way to recharge??

Not making any less of the situation in Qld but 139 people in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil due to landslides from torrential floods and downpours.

It seems like just about every week there is some kind of extreme world weather event??

Watching the live TV broadcast of the city awakening to such awful scenes.

Brisbane is such a beautiful river city, young and vibrant - so so sad to see such destruction.

Can't even begin to think about how long this will take, how many peoples day to day lives have been changed in a few days.

Mother nature has been so, so cruel.

Sadly, the long range weather forecasts are not good and we can expect more rain in the next 3 mths, maybe not as bad as now but we will all be very nervous.

to all affected directly by this tragedy.

It is like most things at the moment - how do we get out there??

With roads and rail so devastated, it is impossible to get out to some places. Some towns are just like islands.

Read in Brisbane Courier Mail that Clive Palmer (qld mining billionaire) lost 40 horses at his property in Lowood. They were just washed away with the force and volume of the water and impaled on fences and trees.

Daisy the situation as you know is changing by the hour but at the moment we haven't had anything like the storms/rain that they had further north - not up to now anyway.

Roads, airport (GC) clear up to now??

But if I were you I wouldn't pre-pay for a ticket for Wet N Wild? YOu might not get to use it.

Hope you manage to have soom R n R while you are up here as well as work??

I am watching what happens in Brisbane in the next couple of days and praying it slows down before it gets or if it gets to the Gold Coast.

Couldn't get those images of Toowoomba out of my head last night, listened to the rain, off to get some much needed zzzzzzzzz's see what tomorrow brings.

Yep, that's the problem with 'holidays' if you don't go anywhere you always get caught up with those jobs that need doing. Damn!

My daughter has a part time job in fast food and was absoloutely wrapped with the penalty rates this year!

Hi, amy, welcome to the forums! Yep it can be sad to spend weekends/nights alone but you won't be for long on here!

It takes some time to adjust to being single when you have been part of a couple but try having fun in the meantime. As a friend of mine used to say "Let's be single together??"
