I see so many different ideas, different people of all sorts on this site. Have you fancied a special one or just have fun meeting people here? Is there a danger in being too friendly? I find some people get the wrong ideas if you respond in a friendly manner.
I respect your beliefs and you. Remember, wisdom comes with knowledge, what you learn for yourself through experience, and brave enough to question what you've been told.
Are you talking ethics ( knowing the difference between right and wrong)or religion( belief of a supernatural being looking down at us from the universe)?
I can understand why some people are atheist and even justified in their thoughts. When I was in Central Europe I visited a Jewish meuseum and ancient graveyards. The meuseum housed clothing with the Star of David people were forced to wear in concentration camps. Drawings on the walls by little children who were put to death, watching their little friends disappear day after day. No mater how you plead to God to save your family and friends the killings continued and not one prayer helped. Some countries refused to allow Jews to enter. Not one religious group stood up to help. Praying to God did not help. As a child I didn't understand why some people had to suffer. The excuse I imagined was "there are some things only God can answer." Well, I think that was an infantile excuse because I still hear it today. When will we be brave enough and stand up for the right of others instead of creating excuses for not doing anything and arrogantly sit there and claim we have an answer?
I find it amazing how people have an answer for things they have no understanding and call it God whereas if you question the origin of God you are an outcast.
My opinion: All we do is manipulate others, control, kill, destroy nature, and reproduce. At least some of us have the compassion to care and try to make a difference.
I notice the debates always seem to be focused around Christianity. Is it because Christians and non-christians are permitted greater freedom of thought and therefore feel less guilty in expressing opinions.
All religion began with nature worship. Celebration of the sun's birth (spring), death(winter) and resurrection arrival of the sun at the beginning of the new year. The 12 deciples were the 12 months and the one fell short (Feb) mentioned in the Bible called Judas. There's more to this story and it's comming out in a new book.
The original Christmas was celebrated long before the introduction of modern religious beliefs but the fundamentals remain the same no matter what the thoughts are. Namely, the celebration of life, birth, death and resurrection. The beauty of it all is love, hope and sharing. No matter what we believe , we have no escape from this basic truth of life and death.
I was served an unknown meat or bird . It was baked but the ribs were soft and the flesh taste something like a cross between a duck and pork. This was near the Beauford Sea, a few km. from the north pole. Eating raw flesh was not uncommon up there. It was Christmas time when it was served and I'll never forget it.
All of the above. In person there are other things too. Body language, phone calls from other dates, eyeing and talking about other guys when all you want is a little respect and attention.
Everywhere I turn people believe in one thing or other, and it appears most folks wear blinders in their beliefs. What does your religion and beliefs mean to you? Would you date someone of a different belief to yours?
This site is interesting
