RE: Should we decrease the current airport security checks?

Sorry forgot to hightlight this part of your post about Iraq.

RE: Should we decrease the current airport security checks?

Well to begin with, the government can now do no warrant wiretapping based soley on suspicion. Before it was deemed by the Supreme Court, that without a warrant, it was a violation of right to privacy, to do so without a warrant. Before, agents of law enforcement had to go before a judge, show them evidence of possible criminal activity in order for the judge to sign a warrant, authorizing them to wiretap. This is no longer needed.

Also, the Patriot Act allows for the government to try American citizens in secret trials, using evidence that is classified against the defendant, that the defense attorney cannot challenge, because it is deemed classified material. The government by use of the Patriot Act, is authorized to collect data on individual citizens (something it once was prohibited to do against innocent civilians)at the whim of the governemnt. Information such as your finances, medical information, etc, are all available to the government now without court order. Essentially, the government is allowed to collect evidence without a warrant or court order, try you in a secret court, use classified information that you are not allowed to defend yourself against, and convict you of whatever crime it is they accuse you of and send you to a secret location, all without court supervision. The act also allows the U.S. military to be involved in such operations, an action that was once prevented under the Posse Comitatus Act. So in essance, they can violate our rights, without a judge ever even knowing what's going on, straight through the use of the Patriot Act.

Should have invaded Afghanistan then for crying out loud. Then just moved on iraq too right?

Personally, I think the war in Iraq was a mistake. It's clear our plan was for it to last 2months maximum and for us to establish a base of operations where we could then invade Iran. If you look at the geography, it's a fantastic pincer attack between Afghanistan & Iraq. Iraq just didn't lie down like we had planned..And anyone knows, you should plan for worst possible contingency. Not to mention we failed to even lock down Afghanistan because of the Iraq invasion.

Sorry OP, I stopped reading right here. No offense, but Republican & Democrat alike all take money from corporate America. No one party is more worse than the other.

RE: Young son.

oh ok, that's what I couldn't figure out.

That being said, it's just a phase to be honest. He's a young teen and starting to feel the independence in him come out. I wouldn't over anaalyze it and feel as though there is something wrong. He is just at that age where no kid really likes to be seen as having to be protected by their parent. It's that age of rebellion & independence. If anything you should feel as sense of pride in that he wants to stand on his own 2 feet and not be coddled by mommy & daddy.

I'm not a parent, but, I know it must be tough, especially if you have a close relationship with your son (which I think is awesome that you do). The best you can do is take that role where you let them take the first step out of the nest out into the world around them and let them explore. Just be there for them when they need you because that will come as well.

To be honest Lostinspace, you sound like a great example of what all parents should be. You hold a fantastic relationship with your son, and noticed a change in him and were concerned. That speaks volumes. I wouldn't worry to much (easier said than done). Instead embrace it that he is in fact growing from a boy into a young man.

RE: Young son.

Is this a son you didn't know you had?

If so, then I understand his point of view because he wants to learn who you are, where you've been, etc. I think you should honestly cherish the time he wants to spend with you alone because it's a possible chance for you to get to know one another and to try and make up for lost time.

RE: Should we decrease the current airport security checks?

All the more that says checking isn't foolproof because to be honest, it could be the little kid with a bomb that looks like a Nintendo...

RE: Should we decrease the current airport security checks?

I guess my biggest concern is... I mean the terrorists always will find a way. And is it really worth it to travel safe if it is at the point where everyone is patted down at gunpoint in the name of safety? Personally, I don't believe it is.

As it is, there is a motion in our Congress for their to be an issue of a federally issued federal I.D. card that contains data such as my name, address, etc on a microchip (the military already uses these)...In lands such as the UK & United States and other democratic countries that promote freedom, is it really the governments business where I am traveling? Where I've been? Personally I say no. Maybe, just maybe it may make me safer as a citizen, but in a sense, it strips me of my freedom to be who I want to be and go where I want to go without big brother looking over my shoulder

Personally I just think alot has been done in the name of National Security that violates basic human rights of freedom (Patriot Act). Again, yeah they may make me safer, but I'd rather be more free. It's all a matter of perspective of what people are willing to sacrafice for their safety.handshake

RE: Should we decrease the current airport security checks?

thumbs up exactly. It's like merry go round...where it stops, nobody knows.

RE: Should we decrease the current airport security checks?

WTC was attacked in the 90s, the USS Cole was attacked, and numerous embassies where attacked by islamic terrorists.

Ramsi Yousef even said when they brought him back to new york city, and they flew him by the WTC to show him they were still standing, for trial..."The next time we will take them down, both of them". So the warning signs were all there to be honest.

I agree it's not as easy, but where there is a will, there is a way. I also wouldn't have a problem with the checks, if they weren't so rediculous (patting down old ladies in wheelchairs type of things). If you have a profile of a suspect, that is what you look for. Otherwise you are basically running around like a chicken with it's head cut off looking for something.

RE: Should we decrease the current airport security checks?

when i came home from the military, before hand, they made me take off my boots (making sure the metal plates weren't shanks).

The point though is, how far do we keep letting them go? As it is now, they can scan your body and get an exact proportional recording of what you are...It's a fact when you give the government an inch they take a mile...Look at social security numbers...Once only supposed to be used for recieving benefits, now is required by every citizen to have.

RE: Should we decrease the current airport security checks?

My only worry is, where does it stop as far as security? It's only a matter of time before terrorists bomb another plane...Whats next? Armed soldiers patting down passangers at gunpoint? Immediately after 9/11, this was actually going on in U.S. airports...So much for land of the free , home of the brave. So much for the posse comitatus act that prevents federally activated military from being used in any law enforcement capacity against it's own citizens...But that's ok, it was just in the name of national security (sarcasim).

RE: Should we decrease the current airport security checks?

Personally, with all the money we've invested we've in a sense, built a wall of technology around us to make us feel safer, when in fact, it has been proven, that about 60-75% of the time, these security checks don't in fact keep out what they were intended to keep out.

DHS inspectors have proven this by getting fake bombs and weapons through security. In a sense in my opinion, the terrorists won the fight as far as their primary mission. Terrorizing.. We spend billions of dollars that could be used to go towards deficit relief or towards other social programs. In a sense, DHS prooved that their department is useless.

We as a western society are so terrorized by the terrorists, that we willingly give the governments carte blanche to spend money in the name of national security as much as they want on programs that they themselves prove to be ineffective.

Personally I say go to pre-9/11 security checks. They worked, one group just happened to slip through the cracks. No system is perfect and something or someone will always slip through the cracks no matter how "perfect" people feel the system is.

RE: just a question

99% of those are just ways to get people to add you to your yahoo so they can spam a website to be honest.

RE: why are the good men rejected?

What's wrong with a woman that is crazy or abused? Crazy can be fun (as long as it isn't asylum crazy) and what exactly is wrong with an abused woman? The fact that you have to be there for them more so emotionally? I'm not quite following your dilema here TC, please clarify.

RE: Someone twice than my age...

There is only one thing that matters, your & his happiness together. As long as the both of you are happy with one another in the relationship, then who cares what other people say or may imply? I say go for it girl and congratulations on finding someone that has made you happy and congratulations to the lucky man that has found you.

RE: Vegemite and cheese???

Personally, I find vegamite to be a bit too salty for my tastes. That being said, I really didn't grow up with it in my culture and never was able to get a taste for it.

I've tried it a few times, just to give say that I have tried it, but it's something that just never grew on me.

RE: Are you attracted to one perchicular race

I would have to say that in general, I am attracted to women with Australian accents or Latino women. I however do not use these as criteria for going out on dates (would be a long time before i ever went out on a date..then again, it has been..lol). I look at things such as race, like I do hair color or accents...They are purely a "bonus" sometimes.

The most important aspect, and always will be personality. Don't get me wrong, there in a sense has to be something that attracts me to them to begin with , but I don't soley rely on that (if that make sense)
