Attack on 9/11

Freedom's Call

We stand in the cold rain
Feeling the intense pain
Watching as our brethern die
Hearing their final cry

Ashes fall all around
Drifting slowly to the ground
Each cinder a rising soul
From an attack so foul

Staring into the sky
The wind blows with a final sigh
Clearing the black smoke
Another tear I choke

Rising from the ashes
Putting on our memorial sashes
Standing proud, standing tall
We hear freedom's call

The world stands as one
We sing our mourning song
Together we are strong
We sing our battle song

Now begins the war on terror
To stamp out the horror
A long road lies ahead
To honor our dead.

Who Are You?

Who am I?
You must find the answer.
How do I do that?
Seek with all of your heart.

Where do I look?
Inside, everywhere you have been.
Why am I so lost?
That is your question.

How can one lose oneself?
By losing focus.
But what if there was no focus?
There is always focus.

Can you help me to understand?
If you listen, you will hear.
Why am I scared?
To face oneself is the hardest task of all.

Why is that?
The unknown is terrible to behold.
Who are you?
I am you.

The Hunt

My blood burns
As I begin the hunt
My prey is swift and canny
Yet I have patience

Softly, I pad through the grass
I hear the scamper of feet
My pulse quickens
My prey is near

I sniff the air
Catching the scent
Swiftly, silently I lope
The grass parts without a sound

I pounce upon my prey
Jaws closing on the neck
Blood fills my mouth
I feel the last pulse

After my feast
I lay in the sun
Awaiting the next day
The next prey.

Life is...

Life is a dream
Sometimes it seems
Drifting on gossamer wings
Carried by the winds

Life is a trial
A court that never adjourns
The defense never has a turn
Truth is shadowed in a veil

Life is a struggle
Hard work, toil and labor
A broken back, sore
Always a battle

Life is life
Filled with hardship and strife
A slave to health
A servant of death

Life is a song
One of mourning
One of joy
Short or long

Life is here
What we make of it
Whether love, hate or fear
Life is our fate.

Pride

Pride

Here I stand
A master of all I see
Never do I bend my knee
I rule this land

Hubris is my name
I have risen from the ashes
Faced their whips and lashes
Now I deliver endless pain

Before me stands a small child
So small, meek and mild
And in her eyes I see
This is not me

She opens her mouth to speak
Uttering a whimper, then a cry
She falls with a sigh
My heart breaks

Reaching down, I pull her to my bosom
Yet no breath escapes her lips
Innocent and pure, her life is dim
My soul wails, my pride flees

Looking to the sky
I raise my voice
For her life, let me die
This is my choice

God in heaven hears my call
Slowly the child stirs
My sight dims
As I begin to fall

The child stands and looks upon me
Her face is the last image I see
She bends to kiss me
As my pride dies, I am free.

Love

Love

A burning consumes my soul
As I gaze upon thee
Yet you do not see
You are my goal

Slowly you turn and walk away
Though I do stay
My heart goes with you
Oh, if you only knew

My days are filled with visions of you
Yet our moments together are so few
I try to speak, what is in my heart
Yet again you are gone before I start

One day we meet in the park
On a night left dark
On a bench do we sit
My mind races, yet I have no wit

Taking your hand, in both of mine
I look deep into your eyes
Now is the time
Yet a coward still lives in me

I gaze upon thee
Your lips so soft and full
Your hair, long and flowing
Your manner, so carefree

Your eyes, sparkling
Diamonds in the sky
Your face, soft and lovely
Like a porcelain doll

Yet in me is a fear
Of which I cannot speak
Then you smile, the spell you break
And you hear

Now I am at peace
My heart rejoices
Together do we say
I love you.
