Like most we wonder why people commit suicide...should there be more support for those that suffer?...

My friend hung himself close to 3 years ago, he needed help but refused to accept any.
Yes our system in Canada regarding mental illness or other matters of the welfare of others is lacking...sad really...
This child was so young...the diagnosis...perhaps wasn't correct but this documentary highlights the difficulty this family had coping with such destructive behaviour and the lack of help solving the issue at hand...and then dealing with his death...
Really don't think things through, pretty much thinks it's the best way out.The ones that are left behind feel the pain of it all alsu. Sad it is.
This particular story tells us of a boy who wanted help...but couldn't articulate his feelings, his age playing a factor...diagnostics were not done...which could have helped improve his situation...but it seems the system is lacking in the expertise and/or monies needed for those who suffer from mental illness and those who get left picking up the pieces...
the part that stated he must be a ward of the state first before he could avail the help he badly needed sounds so inhuman to me...
It all comes down to money...or give up your rights and then get treatment...but the tests to determine what he suffered from were not followed up...a boy who needed to belong to his family...should not be in a position for parents to give him up as ward of the state to receive appropriate care...
That is the problem we need to have family active in their treatment...not wards of the state or province...
The fact that you quoted an impostor is quite clever...lets just say I enjoy your humour...enough said...lol...
I find that it is sad...a country as well off as Canada is...there are flaws in the system...I enjoy the programs from The Fifth Estate because they highlight injustices particularly Canadian...but we can all learn from it...although it is a complex and difficult issue to dissect in a short period of time...it alerts the masses and then we ask questions...
I just know people who refuse treatment or go only temporary when when they have no choice and not continously.
From what I got, services are overcrowded and I don't know how much help is available if urgently needed in all cases. This is not something where someone can take a ticket & wait until someone has time to talk to them.
Nice to see you here...I do understand that not all of our population can be helped...some refusing treatment and other unfortunate events...lets face it life is not 100% fair...our system fails despite our best intentions...In Canada we are spending less resources on our children...whether it be about protecting against neglect...passive or active...and our system to aid children, as in Chazz's case...diagnostics are not performed due to funding requirements...so perhaps this is yet an opportunity to tweak the system?...
Once I saw the author...I did begin thinking that maybe she had the best merit to understand the underlying feelings of what is going on in one who suffers first hand from an illness...kinda funny though...thanks guadal...lol...
Sad specially when the government cut off all the support and assistance for them.
Often something bad has to happen before the system gets changed.
Love the journalism of the Fifth Estate...tackling issues that are Canadian but are really issues that we may all might face...it is a sad story of the system that failed to help this child...may we learn from it...
We are getting better at helping people with mental illnesses...but the problem lies with the side effects of the medications, the stigma of it (illness) and the appropriate diagnosis but with better funding in place...most everyone can be helped...
Children are our future...if we don't look after our resources where will we be?...much like conservation of our natural environment...we should protect it for our future...the children...
Thanks for visiting!!...too bad it is too slow (video)...but to summarize...families have hard choices to make...do they make their child wards of the state/province in order to be helped?...why is diagnostics not performed if it means a better understanding of what is going on?...the stupidity of governmental guidelines...
I hate a health care system where you actually have to think if you can afford to go to a doctor?!?
thanks for your participation... I agree!!
In Canada it is largely paid by our system but there are other costs involved...other treatments are not covered...unless you have extended medical...which some do not have...why waiting times are more prevalent in Canada than the USA...every system has flaws but we can improve the system so that far less are negatively affected...
I agree...seems we are tightening our budgets due to economic problems...and some areas of spending are reduced...then we deal with the aftermath...
A young person will not know what is causing their problems because they always trust their peers to be doing what's best for them.
The school which succeeded in keeping him content would have been experts in how to engage with him and keep his attention etc.
The fact that he took so lovingly to his sister's baby tells me that a pet and responsibility might have helped.
I only talk out of life experience and knowing an increasing amount of people with mental health problems.
It's like everything in life. What works for one may not work for another.
I won't state the obvious but how could anyone not be moved by this and now the death of 150 innocent people.
My reasons for posting this is not due to the co-pilot...I had posted another documentary from the Fifth Estate earlier...but I thought I would continue posting these docs...because it was a topic that interested many...it gives us an inside view of what family deals with in their existence...
I feel bad for those who have no support or access to information. Just knowing whats going on inside is half the battle. Then there are those who refuse help thinking there is nothing wrong with them, or is untrusting of doctors or for whatever reason. Sometimes those are the people who need help the most but they will never get it.
Still what kinds of mental sickness are we talking about here ?
The list is a long one.
Very complex situation...not sure if any one is able to blame any institution or area in particular but we could possibly investigate areas needing improvement where we can reduce such problems...then we could be better off...
Several types of depression and other mental illnesses are recognized...problem with Chazz...no one could help him...whether it due to monetary issues or bureaucratic snafus...or a family who could no longer cope...and/or the difficulty in diagnosing the problem...
Thanks for your input...recognizing a problem In anyone's youth is an advantage...
