Making plans for the USA! (part 3)

I'm slowly getting things in order for my trip to the USA next year. I've sorted accommodations, which gives me the kind of calm that I need when there's so much to plan.

I asked my friend straight up, if I could stay at her place for the week. She lives in a 1 bedroom apartment, but if I can handle the couch, I am more than welcome to stay at her place. Immediately, my answer was "I'll take the couch for the week!". That frees up more money to spend on things, which is extremely positive.

So now, I just need to save up for the spending money, and I'll be ready! 272 days 10 hours and 14 minutes until the plane takes off! Super excited!

Need some SAY

I need a break from work, I thought of travelling. My two other colleagues wants to go with me. I was searching in the internet which place is preferable to go these days.
The other colleague said, she wants in a snowy place. Well, as a third country nationals, travelling is not easy for us. The most we could go, is the european territories.
We were in Armenia , Giorgia and Dubai last year. My searched this time is...Paris, Lucerne, Milan, Venice and Rome . Two nights stay in a hotel each place. We planned to leave in March first week. Is Lucerne still snowy that time???guys from Switzerland ...teddybear

I want to travel soon!

At work earlier today, there was an ad on the radio about travelling, and the sound of bagpipes came on, which made me think about just how much I miss Scotland. Then, I though to myself "I should really go to Glasgow again at some point next year". On my way home, I did some searching, to find out when it was cheapest to travel to Scotland, and I found out, that May was the cheapest. I can get a return ticket for the less than a new games console.

While I would love to travel alone, I did think that I would bring someone, so I asked K if she wanted to visit Glasgow with me. "Sure, but I don't know when I can afford it", was her answer. Now, being that the flights to Scotland are cheap, I thought "Why not give her a trip to Scotland as an early birthday present".. So now I am looking at deals for when I am getting paid in about 8 days time. I also need to time it with regards to my New York trip. The plan is, that I will arrive home from New York on the 8th of May, and, if all goes well, K and I will depart for Scotland on the 17th of May. I have 11 days back in Denmark before I head out of the country again. May is gonna be busy AF, but I love it.

I will not book tickets for Glasgow, but Edinburgh. There is a bus there, that travels all the way to Glasgow from Edinburgh Airport. The last time I took it, it was £18.50 for an open return ticket. The price might have gone up since then, but it sure beats taking the train, which will easily cost me a few hundred pounds.

It's gonna be amazing getting back to Scotland. I miss the food there, the people and the scenery! It's gonna be awesome!

Love is Noise...

I wish MySpace was back. Whereas I listen to that song, I cannot help to think every-single-f*cking-time about that Ukrainian cutie that travelled to China. What was her name? I don't know. Any other info about her? None.

The ever-so-present reminder that love is not for me. Not for a guy like me. I escape love and love escapes me.
Oh how much I tried to make connection to her, but it just wasn't enough, and then, the adventures resulting from that heartbreak were as immense as the love I had for her. "Will those feet in modern times walk on soles made in China?"

And then the bright prosaic malls, the memories of Sweden, the bright prosaic malls in Sweden. My hopes, my wishes, my unfulfilled fantasies...
The need for answers and not just walks in the park. The 'ursekta mig' question right at the entry of Nacka Forum. The recurring hope for a love that might or might not be.
I-can-not-take-it-anymore.

As I put my ring back on, I try to diluscidate what was it that I've done wrong in my life to end up like this. ¿Can I fix it? ¿Will I be fine?

And yes, the offer is there for me to take.. but why would I cause more harm to myself without any reason?
Is it real? The trembling on the sofa, is that Icelandic memory just pulling my legs in a way that only love can do?
Just the memories, those are the only ones I ask to come back. Because the cold and the booze in my veins only call for those memories that will never leave my mind. Even if I forget the smells and the sounds, the cold wind will be there to remind me of that ship that has set sail and left me dry, hoping for a return inside my heart that seems to never happen.
Tonight, this night, is just another cry for reason.

I wish it never dies.

Making plans for the USA! (part 9!)

It's yet again time for your favourite blog - reading about a random Dane planning a trip to the United States of America. This episode is all about what happens the first few hours after I land in Washington DC.

The original plan was to be picked up by my friend, but work has gotten in the way of that, so I have been to Google Maps to see, how I can get to her place by myself, without having to deal with cabs. I found the PERFECT route, and since I am from a country where public transportation and metro is a huge thing, I will find it incredibly easy!

The route I have found takes me from Dulles to East Falls Church and then the bus further on to my destination. And yes, before you ask: I WILL be that annoying tourist with a itinerary on a piece of paper, with a confused look on my face.

So my day of traveling looks like this: Airport at 1 am at the latest. Flight to Frankfurt, Germany at 6:35 am. Layover for about 2 and a half hours. Boarding my flight to Washington at 10 am, flight departs at 10:30 am. 9 hours later: Touchdown in the USA! My first test awaits me: Clearing US customs.

From what I can gather online, and through friends and family, they ask a few questions: Where I am flying in from, what I do for a living and the famous "business or pleasure?". Note to self: Don't say Copenhagen when asked where I am flying in from. Frankfurt, is the correct answer.

Once I clear customs, I have to find my suitcase and then I am ready to start my holiday! I still need to figure out where the Silver metro train is located, but according to Google Maps, it's a short, 11 minute walk away. Next, I need to get one of those SmarTrip cards. I saw a video on YouTube where it clearly tells me where I can buy such a card. I just don't know how much to put on, since I have no idea how much I need. I might just put $20 on it, just to be safe. I don't want to run out of money.

So to sum up: I am in the air for a combined 10.5 hours, if everything is on time. The journey from the airport to where I am staying is another 1.5 hours, so that's 12 hours. Finally, there's the customs line, which can take about an hour. We're now up to 13 hours. Then I have to include the wait time at both Copenhagen and Frankfurt airports. 1 am to 6:35 am is 5 hours and 35 minutes, and the wait time in Frankfurt is 2 hours and 35 minutes, for a combined wait time of 8 hours and 10 minutes.

Add that to my flight and wait time at Dulles, and we're up to 20 hours and 10 minutes - almost a full DAY of traveling. When I arrive at my destination, I am SO going to sit down and relax!

The Hollow Whistle of Iron Horses Part V

....continuation...

Rattlesnake Lake is not the home of poisonous rattlers, and, in fact, no poisonous snakes inhabit Washington State. Legend has it that Rattlesnake Ridge and the subsequent lake were named when a railway worker heard the rustle of the wind blowing the camas seed pods, sounding identical to a large rattlesnake.

As dusk blankets the park, Rattlesnake Lake's unmarred surface gleams a muted blue-green in the fading light. Children with dogs throw sticks on the sandy shoreline, parents in close proximity with watchful eyes. Due to the lack of directional signage on the rail trail, locals are more than helpful for directions and information. Picking up the Snoqualmie Valley trail, it takes you through five miles of more spectacular scenery and directly over the raging Snoqualmie River into North Bend. Again, signage would be helpful to indicate where to turn to the main street of North Bend.

Thirty miles and ten hours later, the North Bend Motel is a short 3-block drive
from the parking lot near Compass Outdoor Adventures. On average, the trail should only take about 4-5 hours to ride, but photography buffs may find themselves spending an inordinate amount of time recording the many distractions along the trail. The tunnel opens May 1st, however due to snow build-up in front of the huge doors, a plow was brought in to displace the snow and it officially opened May 2nd.

Lights, a jacket, even on the hottest days, water (there is no water on the trail), reflective clothing are all highly recommended, and most of all, be prepared to have the ride of your life!

Already thinking about my next travel adventure.

I know it might be a while before we are allowed to travel abroad again, but that has not stopped me from thinking about my next trip. At this moment, the trip will be a week in the United States, to visit a friend in Virginia. That, naturally, led me to look at how much flights are, and when I will have to buy the tickets.

Let's for arguments sake say, that we are allowed to travel again in August 2021, which is a possibility. That would make me able to travel in November, which is where these prices are found!

From Kastrup to Dulles, with stopover in London Heathrow. Departing Copenhagen on the 5th of November, and returning from the USA on the 12th of November. The cheapest is Basic Economy, which is the same type of ticket that my New York trip was: 2370 DKK. The regular Economy is 3210 DKK, while the most expensive ticket, the Premium Economy is 6769 DKK. Seeing as the cheapest ticket is all the way in the back of the flight, with payment to select seats and no luggage unless you pay, that ticket is ruled out. So the question then is: Do I go semi-expensive or do I just go full on luxury experience ticket? The regular Economy is $528 while the Premium Economy is $1115. Both tickets are within my price range, so I am not sure what to pick, if I am honest..

I have always wanted to travel in style, so maybe I should pick the most expensive one? Or maybe just get the semi-expensive, and then spend the remaining money on a nice pair of shoes? Or some new clothes, perhaps? I could easily find some great shoes for the remaining $587.. Or I could exchange them to dollars, and take them with me? So many options..

Oh the things I do

Yes, I'm a rider, I ride as often as I can. Sometimes I wake up early, and have trouble getting back to sleep, I've been know to take off for a ride at 3am. Other times on a whim I'll throw a couple of changes of clothes in a bag and just take off. One time when I did that I wound up spending the night in Arkansas, the next night found me in Iowa. I have already earned 1 Iron Butt patch, and am presently waiting to see if my second ride will be approved. In both cases it was 1000 miles in 24 hours, not the easiest ride to make, but in it's own way quite fun.
