No Matter How Much Whiskey I Drink

And it's another friday night on the lonely side of town.
Where they roll up the streets after the sun goes down.
I was sittin' in my favorite bar just tryin' to drink you
off my mind.
When I heard George Jones singin' a sad song and I knew,
I was waisting my time.

'Cause no matter how much whiskey I drink
While chain smokin' cigarettes
All the one night stands and big weekend plans
Haven't helped me forget you yet.

And it's another sunday mornin' wakin' up,next to a stranger.
I'm just tryin' to find my keys, and tryin' to remember her name.
But your name's the only one that's always on my mind.
And I know by tonight i'll be tryin' to drink away this pain,
lord nuthin' will change.

'Cause no matter how much whiskey I drink
While chain smokin' cigarettes
All the one night stands and big weekend plans
Haven't helped me forget you yet.

Lord knows i've tried to get over you,but then i'm back
in the heartache again.
So caught up in the denial and the lies,of this bottle
that i'm drowning in.......

And it's another monday mornin' wakin' up with a hangover
and heartache.
Tryin' to make it through the day,is the hardest thing to do.
Because at five o'clock I know,i'll be sitting at that bar.
Lost in a bottle, and hiding from the truth, but it's no use.

'Cause no matter how much whiskey I drink
While chain smokin' cigarettes
All the one night stands and big weekend plans
Haven't helped me forget you yet.
No matter how much whiskey I drink
No matter how much whiskey I drink
No matter how much whiskey I drink....
hasn't helped me forget you yet.

Wenn ich mich erinnere könnte (If I could recall)

Childhood takes me down ancient ways
in front of me appear the dunes
behind the heath falls far to the horizon
what I forgot was the village name
it was so quaint
people can sing of the sea or Hawaii
for me the past
is like a wonderful dream out of my grasp
I will never see those headlands again
if I could recall
the sight of Schaprode and Hiddensee
before my eyes my childhood dream
would become real
and my happiness would know no bounds.

About this poem:
I wrote this about my early childhood in Germany.

We all have memories like this and for me, they remain like a dream akin to German singers description of sailors fated to never reach land and Hawaii are more fantasy than a realized expectation.

Darker Side Of Me

No matter where I want to go
It's never where I should be
Shadows cast thier familiar faces
On the darker side of me

But oh how I wish I could fly
Into a different light
But I guess I'd have to close my eyes
And wait to see....

But no matter where I want to go
It's never where I should be
Shadows cast thier familiar faces
On the darker side of me

But what if I were to be a feather
And had to close my eyes to see
That life will never be better
When society poisons my dreams

But no matter where I want to go
It's never where I should be
Shadows cast thier familiar faces
On the darker side of me

In My Dreams

In my dreams.
Keep you in my dreams.
In my dreams.
Keep you in my dreams.

Last night I laid down,
I saw visions of you.
Before I closed my eyes,
Your sight, your smell,
I knew it was you.
There you were standing,
A vision to behold.
Tears ran down my face,
I cried, you cried,
Scenes started to fold.

In my dreams.
Keep you in my dreams.
In my dreams.
Keep you in my dreams.

I woke up knowing,
That never were you real.
My heart sunk in my chest,
I tried, you lied,
How was I to feel?
I knew I must go on,
Can`t live in fantasy.
I knew I would miss you,
Your taste, your touch,
Would shape reality.

In my dreams...I feel I know you.

Your face, your touch,
I must, keep you in my dreams.
Your smile, too much,
But I need you, in my dreams.

In the darkest corners of my heart,
I need you, to be real.
I can`t forever live in the dark,
If it`s me that you really feel.
Surely, if you can feel me,
Then I must exist.
Even if you can`t see,
Look at how you try to resist.

In my dreams.---------Your face, your touch,
Keep you in my dreams-I must keep you in my dreams
In my dreams.---------Your smile, too much,
Keep you in my dreams-But I need you in my dreams.

Shake My Soul

You shut me out when I’m feeling blue; I can’t make it here without you.
Come on baby show me just a sign, that I’m yours and you are mine.
Keep the faith baby heal my heart, I’ve been so sad since we’re apart.
Shake my soul baby, Shake my soul, Shake my soul baby, Shake my soul
Let’s have a party and invite our friends, we can make it and tie loose ends.
Don’t say no because I know your mine, we’ll be together till the end of time.
If we can’t make it honey tell me true, then I know just what to do.
Shake my soul baby, Shake my soul, Shake my soul baby, Shake my soul
I give you everything because you’re so fine; don’t hold back baby show me a sign.
Come on honey let me give you a shot; let me show you baby all I’ve got.
You know you want it honey don’t hold back, come on baby now jump in the sack.
Now shake my soul baby, shake my soul, shake my soul baby, shake my soul.

S'il Vous Plait

Do you know the one they call S'il Vous Plait?
I want to marry one like S'il Vous Plait
Last summer at the movies, S'il Vous Plait
There she was before me
In all her fire and glory
She's the one that they call S'il Vous Plait

I moved a little closer, S'il Vous Plait
She smiled as if she noticed, S'il Vous Plait
I moved right up beside her, S'il Vous Plait
I put my arm around her
I felt like I had found her
She's the one that they call S'il Vous Plait

I'll shout it to the sky from the tallest of the trees
I want a woman, if you please
The lady may be tempting, but I've finally learned her lesson:
Keep your mind on your music if you want to get to heaven
Do you know the one they call S'il Vous Plait?
I want to marry one like S'il Vous Plait

So now the sun has sung a summer day
They say that S'il Vous Plait has gone away
But wherever there's a will, there's a way
She's always within reach
Like Venus on the beach
Do you know the one they call S'il Vous Plait?
I want to marry one like S'il Vous Plait

I Thought I Found A Job

Where Where
Are You Tonight
Why did you leave me here all alone
I searched the world over
And thought I found a job
You found another
And "PPTTT"
You were gone

About this poem:
This is a parody of a HeeHaw song. It was a country comedy and musical show that was on when I was a kid back in the 70's. With all the people out looking for work in this new economy, I thought this would be a good song for them to sing.

Salute to Harry

You catch the smell of trouble
like a festering stew
and a good cop knows
the way Harry Callahan knew
that when the low-life breed
there's only one recourse
polish that badge
and apply Magnum Force

Prohibition

Verse I

Recalling prohibition days,
When he was just a kid.
Mom said, "Hide! There's bullets flyin!"
So that's just what they did.
The war waged on for three long days,
Fought o'er a moonshine still.
Gunshots heard through window screens,
As they hid neath the sill.

Chorus

It was the roaring twenties and,
The Tommy guns did roar.
The blood flowed with the whiskey as,
The Reaper kept the score.
Though long ago, the legend still,
Lives on forevermore,
Of the great St. Louis massacre,
Of nineteen twenty-four.

Verse II

When finally all the shooting stopped,
The kids just had a ball,
Through blood-stained streets they ran to dig.
The bullets from the wall.
No way of telling now or then,
How many fought and died.
Neath grandstands of the greyhound track,
The bodies they did hide.

Verse III

This tale is true, as told to me,
My father was that lad.
His childhood had this one bright spot,
Though much of it was sad.
Seems strange to think a shooting spree,
Could somehow bring such joy.
Excitement coursed right through the veins,
Of that scared little boy.
