Boxes of Life

My life arrived today
Four cardboard boxes
Battered by sadness
Torn with heartache
Stained with spilt emotions
And tied with sorrow
They had travelled this land
Nearly as far as I
And seen so much more
Than most hearts could bear
They looked as if grief
Was not a choice
But always mandatory
I cut the string
Hope opened the covers
They were empty
Except for a small
Piece of notepaper
That was as desolate
As I

You Used To Make Me Feel Beautiful

You used to make me feel beautiful,
You used to say I am wonderful,
And now when you have me next to you,
You say I look like a used broom.

You smile to everyone but me,
You praise the look of every girl but mine,
Because I'm already next to you
You let me down...

You do not treat me like a lady at all,
You do not let me feel I'm special,
You said "we are just friends", and wall,
That heavy wall apparted us at once.

I never be "just" somebody to anyone,
I know how unique I am,
I know every word or look of mine
Brings difference and makes a day.

You used to make me feel beautiful
You used to say I'm wonderful,
And now when you have me next to you
You let me down...

Rivers of my Face

My face is a map
That traces, so accurately
The journey
Of my life
Like old roads
Carved out of hope
Trying to lead somewhere
Now tired and worn
Always remaining
Beyond repair
Fading into the past
Before the journey
Had barely travelled
Lightly trodden paths
Often fondly remembered
For that one single moment
When they crossed
Each other’s destiny
They left such little trace
But measured together
Provide so many memories
Of long lost desires

The ravines of past loves
So very deep
Etched from sadness
As ever growing rifts
Drifting further apart
Wrenched from pain
And scarred with sorrow
With impassable rivers
Born of tears
That had bled
From eyes
That had seen
Futility

But hope
Is an emotion
Where desires
Can see further
Than futility
For this map
Has one last space
To be fulfilled
And complete
The journey of life
And when that final river
Crosses my face
And flows
Into nothingness
All I will ever know
Is it will never
Be as deep
As yours

About this poem:
At my age this is fairly accurate. I am on a sabbatical from my novel because I need to write some new poetry, not much, but one now and again to refresh my warped mind.

A Letter to a Woman

You remember,
No doubt you remember
Me standing
In a trance close by the wall.
Excitedly the floor you were pacing
And threw some hurtful words
In anguish, pain to cause.

You were saying:
It was time we parted,
That you were weary
Of all my rakish ways,
It’s time you ever started doing something,
While I was doomed
To fall, to slowly slide away.

Beloved!
You never, never loved me.
You didn’t know that in the crowds of men
Like winded horse I was in foam, worn out,
With spurs dug into sides by horseman bold.

You didn’t know
That in impervious gloom,
In our lives unfurled by tempest
I am tormented for I lack foresight
Of destination where fate will take us.

............

Beloved!
I tortured you,
I saw the anguish
In tired eyes:
That I, in front of you, for everyone to see
Just wasted life in fights and throwing fists.
But you, you didn't know,
That in impervious gloom,
In our lives unfurled by tempest
I am tormented for I lack foresight
Of destination where fate will take us.

.............

I beg to pardon me ...
I know, you’re not that other, mine,
That peacefully you live
With confident and clever husband.
That you no longer need our strife,
And that me too
You need not in the least, alas!

Just live the way
You’re guided by your star
Under the canopy of hopes’ renewal.
Saluting you,
Remembering all the time,
A friend of yours

Oh You, My Hero Shy!

Oh you, my hero shy,
You’ve made a close escape,
How long I played the part
Without help of friend!

To help of yours accursed
Refused I to resort.
Amidst the scenes and ghosts
Escaped you unobserved.

But in this shame of mine
I walked before the audience cruel.
All as bad luck, in public eye,
All in this role of playing single.

Oh how parterre with laughter roared!
You evidence me pardoned not
So shameful of my waste and loss,
The harmlessness of smile you mocked.

And greedily your herds did plod
To quench their thirst on my grief.
Alone, alone – in shame clothed
I’m standing biting my lips.

But to the reckless, hasty mob
Real hero isn’t seen.
Oh hero, you are frightened so!
Don’t fear – I won’t speak.

All our role is just my role,
I’ve lost in it - am nowhere.
All our pain is just my pain,
It’s so much pain to bear!

About this poem:
A scene in a two-actor drama! Once I read that the saddest thing in the world is loving someone, who used to love you. It is even worse when this love is ridiculed by crowd, when all innermost feelings are trampled. “Love, unrequited, robs me of my rest: Love, hopeless love, my ardent soul encumbers...” wrote W. Gilbert.

This is my translation from the famous Russian poetess Bella Akhmadulina. I attach a video file in which you can listen to the audio performance by the actress reading the poem in Russian. For those who know Russian and just for the pleasure of listening to the masterly recital.

Do You Even Care About Me Anymore?

As I sit in what use to be our home
knowing this will be my last night,
How do I express my pain through this pen
as I watch the blood drip from my arm
while I try to write?

Have to find a way to rid the pain
cause its killing me, it really hurts alot,
If you could see the misery Im in now
would you try to save or rescue me? OR,
Do you even care about me anymore or not?

Cant explain how this feels
Ive never hurt this deep before,
Every second, ways to die are crossing my mind
more and more.

Easiest way would be a gun, bullet, and a very close shot,
within a fration of a second
all my pains and problems could be stopped.
If this was my future, would you feel the slightest bit sad?
Do you even care that much or not?

Please tell me how Im suppose to cope and react?
When for five years I gave you my heart
and in one night, you gave it right back,
Thats why I have to finish these drugs
and pray my plan will work
Where I do so much, I would just die of a heart attack.

If I die, its because of this heart I could never mend,
I know I can no longer go on living this way
Will today be the day my life shall come to an end?
Do you still care about me anymore?
Are you even still my friend?

Love hurts so much, like my heart as been cut
by a thousand stabbing knives,
If only one could finish the job to end the hurt and pain
that you have now put in my life.

Especially when I have this much pain
that I know I could never deny,
The only way the pain could continue to hurt
was if I "chose" to stay alive.

My body and arms are so sore
now I can feel my heart beating too fast,
Please God, let now be my time
and soon I will forget this feeling and leave it in the past.

Life or death, I will always keep one memory
a memory of us both,
Its the one that lets me remember
how we use to love each other just a short time ago,
It remains safe in my mind and soul,
For this one memory, is the only memory,
I will forever hold.

I PROMISE
to always hold and remember it and never forget
even if your not there,
Just like the memory
that scar you left in my heart
will always be here.

If I take this memory to the grave with me today
would your heart receive a new tear,
or would you even notice?
Cause all along you never did care?

The Lonely Women Poem

The Lonely Women Poem

Women say they want a real man
That amazing guy with a real plan
The man to steal their lonely heart
With all the moves to make love start

That 1 woman guy
Caring and so loving he brings a tear to her eye
The man who makes the heat ever night
And speaks the words of love just right

What she doesn't know
Is this is an illusion that may never show
Only human is every man
Even Fabio went away as he had no real plan

No matter what she dreams
Waiting for the guy who gives her screams
She went right past that truly good good guy
For whom she would have been the apple of his eye

Even though she may be less than enough for a Fabio
The guy she walks past would have that love to always grow
He would cherish her till the end of her days
Giving her his love which never strays

But this good guy she will not even see
And she will miss that love, leaving it to never be
And so we see so many relationships move into the past
Because she chose that guy with whom it would never last

I said I did and I still do

I said, “I thought you knew.”
"You never loved me, but I did and I still do."

And if,
You asked me if I wanted to come back to you.
I would say, my heart did and it still wants to.
But my brain denied,
It said, “I have had enough for you.”

About this poem:
I found myself so stupid to have loved you. That time my heart said, “Go ahead!” my brain said, “No, hold on!” I ignored my brain; followed my heart and you torn me apart. This time I’ll follow my heart and listen to my brain. And then I’ll learn to love again.

The Note

The letter lay alone
In a mailbox red with rust
Its loneliness apparent
By the layers of forgotten dust
The envelope tinged yellow
As time wished to show its age
The corners bent and crinkled
As if it tried to escape the cage

But love is not your kingdom
When the castle has no moat
And passion will never sail
When rejection sank the boat
So once again his eyes did cast
Upon the bleak and yellowed note
That lay within the mailbox
Seeming to bear a cruel wry gloat

It bore no stamp or postmark
That sense of barren to the mind
Yet it smelt so slightly scented
The sense of an emotional bind
He clasped it tightly to his chest
In pleading hope of a stirring rush
But love will still lie unrequited
When devotion is a one way crush

Scattering

We ran with lions across the wild Serengeti
Scaled the Himalayas for the elusive yeti
Danced the dance of the glorious antelope
As we lived our romance in kaleidoscope

Spreading young wings wider than the albatross
As time drifted on by in clouds of candyfloss
Along the Nile we collected crocodile tears
Swam with dolphins who allayed any fears

Floated in time with the brightest humming bird
Roamed over the plains with a mighty bison herd
Absorbed blood red sunsets in a desert dream
Waited for the stars in a glorious array of agleam

Saw polar bears stare as we scaled the frozen land
All these we discovered never leaving hand in hand
Then history tells us that time becomes an outcast
As the wonder years sped on by from first to last

Our world had now spun from dawn to full eclipse
As you parted that final kiss upon my cold lips
Take me my love further than I have ever been
And let me see the future that your eyes have seen

Across all the rivers and over the many oceans
From mountain tops to the desert of emotions
Take me my love to be always by your side
And allow our memories as your life’s guide

She scattered my ashes across her life
Upon the plains that had seen so much strife
She took them higher than an eagle dare
And deeper than a heart could ever share

Will you weep to capture all of our past
Will tears lie as salt lakes until the last
Scatter me my love upon your very soul
Scatter me wherever you lay your bowl
Scatter me amongst all your sad emotions
Scatter me once again as you cross the Oceans

And when all to you appears to be lost
And life seems to be covered in the cold frost
Take heart my love and hear the new fawn
And live and live upon the new dawn
