happiness and good sleep

healthy wealthy and wise............
............

The quest for a happy life engrosses every human being. But every- one tends to define happiness in a distinctly individualistic fashion. Philosophers and thinkers have attempted to define a happy life. The Hedonists have a simple notion that happiness consists in the gratification of physical appetites. There are others who believe that happiness is attainable through the acquisition of material goods. The more intellectually inclined tend to think that happiness lies in the pursuit of literature, arts and philosophical thoughts. Emotional satisfaction which is to be found in human relations - love for one's parents, wife, children, etc., and friendship - also gives one happiness. To R. G. Ingersoll, "Happiness is the only good", but to Shelley it is something elusive; he sings:

Ye seek for happiness - alas, the day!
Ye find it not in luxury, nor in gold,
Nor in fame, nor in the envied sway ...
The definitions are varied, But all of them suggest that happiness is a state of mind and that different people derive happiness in different ways. To some it is physical gratification or emotional satisfaction; to many it is intellectual. There are many who believe in the saying, "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die". But the be-all and end-all of life does not consist in eating and drinking and that happiness cannot be derived from these two elemental activities. There are also people whose mental make-up is such that they derive a lot of happiness if they arouse jealousy in others and 'feed fat' the grudge and hatred they have against their enemies.

One would wish to be happy and at the same time be virtuous. One need not make a choice between being happy and being virtuous. That is to say, one would like to lead a virtuous life that would give happiness too. No one can be perfectly happy. Life is a mixture of joys and sorrows. There is the fact of the existence of suffering too. Unhappiness or pain accompanies the experiences of birth, illness, failure to satisfy desires, separation from friends and loved ones, old age and death. Even the more fortunate are unable to ward off old age and death. This is a basic truth about life which is mentioned in all the religions of the world. The Buddhist philosophy speaks of suffering as a universal problem of life in a world that is finite and changing. A second truth which Buddhism upholds is that suffering is caused by desires or cravings. These desires tend to grow or increase as we attempt to satisfy them. A man wants ten thousand dollars, then he wants a hundred thousand, then a million, and his wants do not cease. This kind of desire is the real cause of unhappiness, but it is encouraging to know that it is within our control, and that something can be done about it. If men rise above desires and ally themselves with values to which these desires are irrelevant, they may find a serenity unaffected by any of the calamities that befall them.

A third truth mentioned in Buddhism is that desires can be destroyed or blotted out. There is also a fourth noble truth in Buddhism and this truth is that we have a way-out through the Noble Eightfold Path. Buddhism mentions the fact that evil and suffering can be removed if only we have the right knowledge about the nature of our self.

One may derive happiness from life by following the Eightfold Path. The Eightfold Path insists on right understanding, right aspiration or purpose, right speech, right conduct, right mode of livelihood, right striving or effort, right mindfulness and right concentration. One's happiness is very much dependent on one's virtuous conduct which in turn consists in the elimination of lower nature, including selfishness, and in the attainment of peace and contentment, joy, insight, and love and compassion for all living beings.applause

You're a girl
and you'd better not forget
that when you cross the threshold of your house
men will look askance at you.

When you keep on walking down the lane
men will follow you and whistle.

When you cross the lane and step onto the main road
men will revile you, call you a loose woman.

If you've no character
you'll turn back,
and if you have
you'll keep on going

be careful taking a cab.......

Woman takes wrong cab, winds up in prison....

Most of us have agreed to share a cab with a stranger while traveling, but we haven't wound up in jail as a result.
That wrong-place-wrong-time nightmare scenario, however, is apparently what's happened to Stacey Addison, an American veterinarian from Oregon, who has been traveling solo around the world since January 2013.
According to the Oregonian newspaper and Addison's Facebook page, on September 5, Addison traveled from Indonesia into Timor-Leste (also known as East Timor) and shared a cab from the border crossing at Batugade to the capital city of Dili.
"Along the way, another passenger asked to pick up a package at a DHL office," reports the Oregonian. "Police, acting on a tip from Indonesian authorities, were watching and found methamphetamine in the parcel.
"Addison and everyone else in the cab were arrested."
"I was held in the Dili Detention Center for four nights then released after an initial hearing," Addison later posted on Facebook. "The judge ordered that my passport be held until further investigations have been completed."
"(Addison) was conditionally released September 9 but wasn't allowed to leave the country," according to the Oregonian. "Prosecutors told her she was needed as a witness for an investigation that could take a year."
Solitary confinement, hair chopped
After an October 29 court appearance, Addison was jailed again without explanation or warning, and spent five days in solitary confinement.
It's unclear when Addison will be released.
The Oregonian reports that local U.S. consular officials have visited twice with Addison in prison and that U.S. State Department officials will meet with the Timorese ambassador on Friday.
Addison's mother, Bernadette Kero, has established a Facebook page PleaseHelpStacey.
On November 1, Kero posted the following update:
"Yesterday I spoke with Josh at the U.S. Embassy in Dili after his visit with Stacey at Gleno prison.
"He said that conditions are basic but decent. ... She is in 'Induction' period so alone for 5 days and her hair has been cut short per prison protocol. She will be moved to the Female Unit on Monday.
"He told me she was being strong. ... She (said) how difficult it was to be all alone in a small cell with nothing to do but worry all day."
"I am trying to keep busy and keep the anxiety at bay, but the uncertainty is always there," Addison posted on Facebook on October 19, between her first and second incarcerations. "This isn't how I had imagined I would be spending my time during the trip of a lifetime. I hope it is all over soon."

no volleyball for women........

Iran jails woman for attending volleyball match
November 2, 2014 ...

Ghoncheh Ghavami A British-Iranian woman has been sentenced to one year in prison after she tried to attend a volleyball match in Tehran, a report said.

Ghoncheh Ghavami was arrested outside the Freedom Stadium and she was given no reason for her conviction, news.sky.com reported.

The law graduate from London is accused of "propaganda against the state".

Prior to the match between Iran and Italy, women were barred from attending the event altogether.

According to Iranian officials, she was arrested for security reasons.

The 25-year-old went on hunger strike after she was moved to the "brutal" Evin Prison in June. A campaign calling for her immediate release has attracted more than 500,000 supporters to date, the report said.

Gen Esmail Ahmadi Moghaddam, chief of the national police, had said it was "not yet in the public interest" for men and women to share the stands.

Women are already banned from Iranian football matches, but authorities insist this rule is designed to protect them against inappropriate behaviour from men.

castor oil good and bad........

Toxicity........................... Toxicity

Seeds
Main article: Ricin
The toxicity of raw castor beans is due to the presence of ricin. Although the lethal dose in adults is considered to be four to eight seeds, reports of actual poisoning are relatively rare. According to the 2007 edition of Guinness World Records, this plant is the most poisonous in the world. Despite this, suicides involving ingestion of castor beans are unheard of in countries like India where castor grows abundantly on the roadsides. The aversion to the use of the beans in suicide could be due to the painful and unpleasant symptoms of overdosing on ricin, which can include nausea, diarrhea, tachycardia, hypotension and seizures persisting for up to a week. However, the poison can be extracted from castor by concentrating it with a fairly complicated process similar to that used for extracting cyanide from almonds.
If ricin is ingested, symptoms may be delayed by up to 36 hours but commonly begin within 2–4 hours. These include a burning sensation in mouth and throat, abdominal pain, purging and bloody diarrhea. Within several days there is severe dehydration, a drop in blood pressure and a decrease in urine. Unless treated, death can be expected to occur within 3–5 days, however in most cases a full recovery can be made.
Poisoning occurs when animals, including humans, ingest broken seeds or break the seed by chewing: intact seeds may pass through the digestive tract without releasing the toxin. Toxicity varies among animal species: four seeds will kill a rabbit, five a sheep, six an ox or horse, seven a pig, and eleven a dog. Ducks have shown far more resistance to the seeds: it takes an average of 80 to kill them. The toxin provides the castor oil plant with some degree of natural protection from insect pests such as aphids. Ricin has been investigated for its potential use as an insecticide. The castor oil plant is also the source for undecylenic acid, a natural fungicide.
Commercially available cold-pressed castor oil is not toxic to humans in normal doses, either internal or externally..... ...........................................
What are the Benefits of Castor Oil?
Castor Oil has been used both internally and externally for thousands of years due to its many wonderful health benefits. Since it can strengthen the immune system, castor oil is considered a great remedy to treat the following major illnesses and ailments:

Multiple Sclerosis
Parkinson's Disease
Cerebral Palsy
Hair loss
