Belgium together with Taiwan and Netherlands, followed by Japan and France.

more shocking.
The worst, Pakistan,Malediven, Afghanistan, Iran and Saoedi Arabia.

In 74 countries, insulting religion in a crime, and in 13 countries there is the death penalty for atheism.
Other countries discriminated, and block people from working or marriage.

Where did you get your figures? China has the highest percentage - 90% of population don't follow any religion - and Belgium isn't even in the top 5, according to Wiki?

.
oh okay IHUE. I'd never heard of them.
Wiki combined atheists with those who do not consider themselves religious, mind.
China 90%
Sweden 73%
Czech Republic 72%
United Kingdom 69%
Azerbaijan 64%
Belgium 64%
Australia 63%
Hong Kong 63%
Vietnam 63%
Norway 62%
Denmark 61%
Estonia 60%
Germany 60%
Japan 60%
South Korea 60%
Israel 58%
Canada 57%
Spain 57%
Ireland 56%
Finland 55%

Intrigued by Israel, and for that matter by Spain, it's a rare Spanish house you enter here where you are not soulfully watched by pictures of someone with a halo.
I only heard of HUEY LEWIS and THE NEWS grin

Anyway, jokes aside, I’ve dealt with a lot of Pakistanis over here....their actions and demeanour don’t reflect that of a Muslim.

But who am I to judge?!? dunno

the freedom of thought report.

so the top 5 'best' countries to be an atheist.

not the countries with the most atheist. i think that was pre invasion sweden :-D

But very interesting.
i think true atheism is rare, most people believe in something even if they are not religious.
Statistics depend on the questions asked, and often the agenda of those carrying out the survey.

I see Ireland is at 56% on Biff's stats above.

Yet in the most recent census, 2016, only a combined score of 14.9% stated they had no religion/not stated/other.

78.8% claim they are Roman Catholic, but the attendance at church wouldn't show that.

People often state what they are used to stating, out of habit, even if not practicing
Ms marlindap, "i think true atheism is rare, most people believe in something even if they are not religious."

atheism is the disbelief in God or gods, so it's not a question of rare, it's either a belief in God or a disbelief. I know some ppl believe in exercising, but I wouldn't call them an atheist. :)
Operative word in my comment was 'millennials', and the actual percentage was 92%...my error... :)
Where are you getting your figures from?
Why would I search for it when you know where you got the figure from? dunno
It was still only 66.4% that voted yes in the referendum.
Any other statistics are only from surveys and exit polls.
The % that voted to repeal the amendment was the one above, not either 90% or 92% as you stated.
It's your newspaper, it read to me millennials 88%...which makes sense even if it's an exit poll ...the overall being 66% it would only be logical that the millennial group would mimic a higher number not much different than the presumptuous exit polls.
I agree that it would be more likely for younger people, who would be more directly affected by the issue, to vote yes.
But overall, it covered all generations and social classes.
So approximately 66% of the overall 60% that voted, voted in favour.
ok. lets try this: the elderly were more inclined to vote NO as that demographic is not very flexible to change. Given that worldly and demographically politically insensitive statement, it would only be logical that somewhere higher than the 66% hash of the overall population was the percentage of millennials.

Doesn't change my view: Ireland is doomed.....
According to Biblical Scripture, only a “remnant” will be believers near the end so such stats aren’t surprising, though I don’t know how much Wikipedia can be trusted. wine dunno
Sea, understood....which is a major reason I fear for America. sad flower
Thanks for restoring my faith in Australia, Biff... with your figures.
