Miclee you certainly display a wide spread of interests. Good for you. This might like this calendar of solar events.

What is the meaning of “wormwood” in Revelation 8:10?
Yep, Micman, brightness and other things a changin'. But it's not exactly located around the corner, so whatever happens, we're protected, and the event is many years in the past.
well,String,Wormwood makes some great Schnaps(Absinthe)laugh
If, or when, it does happen, it will generate as much light in our sky as about the moon
and will last about a week or so.
When stars do explode, they give off neutrinos and they travel faster than light.
So, some will arrive prior to the light and there are detectors in Alaska.
So, we should know it happened before we see it.
By "we", I mean whoever is alive at that time.
Unfortunately, odds are, that it won't be any of us reading this. So, don't read this. laugh

Jim, I don't mean to nitpick - but the speed of light is the MAX speed. Neutrinos are interesting in that being near massless, they can travel through objects in their path including the Earth. AS for you or I seeing Betelgeuse explode, the star is fainting, not expanding, meaning it has used up a lot of its matter. IT is more apt to contract and become a Black Hole than explode. I say more apt as we are still trying get a handle on Black Holes.
