We r expensive, but the cities are the worst, Oslo especially pricey.
If you can do with a small town- rent will be 500$ and above, house 900.
Buying a house same erea (non-press) say 100-150k.

For other expenses including gas u need 700$.
So, you'll get by on 1500 a month.
For Oslo add 50%.

By the way, You're welcome! beer
Wanna live comfy, add another 50% with a few dinners out and a wide screen tv.
@ grand. Thanks for the info. I wonder taxes issues would be. Like would I have to pay personal income tax on my unearned incomes on a U.S. pension and investments in both countries (the U.S. and new country?). hmmm
I'd say in SA between $3k and $5k. It will cover all expenses.
The US is still one of the cheapest places to live, other than developing countries it is far cheaper than any EU country.
@ riz…. I didnt want to think that the cost of living in the EU was higher than in the US. I just read that the COL in Iceland is 32% higher than in the U.S.
@ luke… someone else on cs and living in SA likes here lifestyle there and COL (Cost Of Living.)
Yes, i'm afraid so Gals, just read through an article about it.
401k seems to be taxed (also)
Nope, go to Bahamas Gals, or to Asia. You can google just that, what countries
how zero or low taxes for foreigners moving there.

Americans get slugged US taxes on income wherever the live by your USA government, its the only country that I know of that steals from its citizens in that way.

There is a tax free income threshold in Australia, migration information :

@ chancer i need to look at a topo map and elevations there. I read somewhere global warming could doom the seacoast there with rising water. wave
The implosion is dependent on right wing lies. Why are you doing that? Respect the Constitution if you don't want the country torn apart.

It's unlikely anyone of galrads age and level of education/blue collar career could relocate much of anywhere anyway.

Here's an idea. Stop contributing to the problems with your right wing BS, shilling for the loser who tried to overthrow the election results.

It is Trumpists like you who are tearing the country apart.
@ IntoTheWoods

thumbs up

Cmon now, you're not foolish, are you? If The USA were to implode, what would become of US pension and investments, in both countries.. roll eyes

Americans and Europeans are subject to very different fiscal regimes, but which is more cost-effective? Overall, Europe often has lower costs when measured against the United States. But these financial benefits should be weighed carefully against factors such as location, income levels, and monetary and economic conditions.
Raphy, I'm pretty sure cost is about the same.
So me, I'd look into Asia.
However, you can live cheaply off grid or at the countryside
all across the globe.

Fundamentally, this blog ain't about that now is it.

So me I have an idea: there is a city in the far west end of Sicilia.
The price of those ruins there is low. I'll put up a windmill, an old school windmill in the town centre,
and around it we'll create a cs pensionares village. Only requirement:
you must agree that the 45th was the best pres ever.

purple heart
@ grand… i want to believe that everyone who has posted in this blog has to believe that 45 was the best president at least in this century.
@ bohem… thanks for reminding me I need to post this image early on in my blogs.

Good luck kpthatsme• Chicago, Illinois USA on that home acquisition. My home's property tax in Dublin, Ohio is about $1,100.00 U$ dollars per month.
$1,100.00 U$ dollars per month, year. comfort
Probably not much Gal, how badly have you been back into a corner before ?
It depends on the lifestyle you want to lead, in the cities it costs an arm and a leg where ever you are in the world;; the country side maybe a few fingers or an arm, set up in the country side may cost an arm and leg but once you have it;; you can easily build on what you have... wave
Have you considered a Sugar Mamma?

Pedro in Chicago, in a decent neighborhood with an average home....property taxes can be anywhere from $1500-2800 per MONTH......it's horrible.
I never heard abut property taxes. Here there is one (a new thing) but it kicks in
at about 500k. All under that is exempt, and its 0.25% of the value above 500k
from which is taxed 0.25% pr year. So that would be typicaly a grand a year.
Not a lot.
So what on earth is that? I thought you guys was so proud of low taxes... shii..
True true, we pay 22% of all income here but in return we have free 'everything'.

Anyways, what I mean to say is: my sympathies on that house taxes.
Sounds like a rip off.
hmmm my free-standing home’s real estate taxes are actually only about $883/month. I forgot I had argued a reduction last year on the county’s 4-year revaluation and was somewhat successful.

Below shows how my home’s taxes are distributed.

Looks like your 'Property tax' includes costs to the value of $10k which are collected through income tax in some other countries, with just $600 collected as actual 'fixed property tax'. The overall amount collected is probably similar but such a high fixed tax amount is very unfair to the unwaged and pensioners. If you moved to such a country you would save that $10k.
@ bohe … whatever you say hug wave
what you guys call property tax in Australia they are called Council rates, covers cabbage council levies, some council also charge a water rate, and a ambulance levy. Nothing like the extent your getting ripped off by any means. People pay tax when they purchase a property otherwise (EOE)

The median price for a house in Australia has reached a record high of almost $1 million, according to a new report. Domain's House Price Report revealed the national median house price is now $994,579, having risen by 3.5 per cent over the September quarter. The national median price for units also rose to $609.642.28 Oct 2021

Council rates represent less than 4% of the total taxes paid by Australians, the cost for those living within the City of Sydney Council (rates) is $708.40. annually, and a South Australian households are paying on average around $29 per week in council rates.
Mu little shack in this 3-year old aerial photo has the green pin-head in it.
…..
The Dublin school system keeps our home property taxes expensive and we wish to keep it this way since our schools are rated the highest academic schools in Ohio for the last 8 consecutive years.

Governemental Rentseeking at its best (worst)!
I just received my tax bill from the county last week. I always pay it by November 30th, to get the 3 percent discount. It will be $2340 with the discount, which includes trash, yard waste, and recycling pick-up.

I’m happy that it less than my last home’s taxes.
