Did we notice summer?

I say that if I dont hit the ground running in April, summer is over. And I am right. Almost August and what have I accomplished on the farm? Drought had me running ragged to haul water to save plantings. I cut down some scrub trees. Futzed here and there and that imaginary do list is undone.
Spring rains had fields with standing water. So guy didn't get them planted. Then the drought hit. Got 2 inches of rain and then he planted soybeans. I went to check and tiny things spouted. They are hanging on even though no more rains. I can't believe how nature will struggle to fulfill destiny. Maybe rain tonight. Please?
I should be working on buildings. Trucks. Brush, wood. Funny how I can come up with 100 excuses to hang in the house like in winter.
I have hens who sit on eggs. Even the cement fakes. Dummies! Set up one in brooder cage. She sat her month til one rotten egg left and gave it up. I opened the cage and the hens now cleaned. So beat my brains out to bend an old steel snow shovel blade the way I wanted to make a metal bottom in the carton they sit in. Put in hay last night. One hen is broody. So add eggs and hen and cross fingers. I have 19 chickens and be nice to get a few more.
Kittens around. They breed fine..sigh.frustrated

Ever think of farming with Angora goats? Quite diverse, mohair, meat good, not so good with milk, cheese. And they eat just about anything. Oh yes and they breed well too with twins and triplets at times.
I have one mule and one ewe. Had goats a couple of different times. Think about it. But, goats are a pain. Jump on cars. Jump fences. Eat plants I want. I checked out different breeds and seems they all have quirks. Plus take 500 to keep up to this jungle. I kind of like the faintings and dwarfs. But, check prices. No way I will pay 2-3 hundred for a goat.
I wish I could have a vicuna. But, not in Wisconsin. Have considered alpacas. No way I would be a Lama mama tho.scold
I know your pain! I'm building a wood shed, turkey coop, chicken tractors, raising turkey babies and chicks, looking after pigs and one is always escaping her pen! I have dairy goats so there's all that work. Want to build a smoke house this year. Gotta split a LOT of firewood for when it's 40 below..... but my summer disappeared in all the smoke from the wildfires. My garden is full of weeds because I've been working in the office and operating equipment when not rained out. But wouldn't trade this life for one of concrete for anything!!
In SA, some parents of over active (naughty) kids have a saying: My kind is erger as a bliksemse Bok, en 'n Bok is 'n Bliksem..
Translated loosely it sez: My child is worse than a damn goat, and a goat is a pain in the butt..laugh
