Donate? No!

Charities are crying, donations are down. I may give food when the mailmen pick up for food bank. Otherwise, only send a check to the local sheriff for K-9 unit. Beyond that..nope. When only 1-3% actually gets to the recipients...the rest goes for salaries for the board, convention trips, offices.doh very mad
I also get angry at their greed. Long ago I sent money to the NPR public radio. It was $10 a month to 40 total. And then they flooded my mail with fancy mailings for more. Every week or more, there was the letter. Envelope, nice inserts, postage paid envelope.mumbling After it was done, I sent them a letter back. You are not happy with a donation but want more. And spent half of what I gave on postage and letters asking for more. So now..you get nothing.
I got a mailing from a good charity last month. Calendars, note papers, and...2 pr 3 pairs of socks!wow OK...far enough. So I sent a check for $10 cause figured I got the socks. Yesterday I got a big envelope from them. More calendars, note book, planner! Oh..so now I am on your sucker list? Lesson learned. If one gives to a charity, they will spend the money hounding you for more, more, MORE!
At least when I give to the sheriff, I sometimes get a nice thank you card back and nothing more. And one time, one cop stopped by so I could meet one of the dogs. Now that is the way it should be.
thumbs up

I bet you wouldn't have to walk far to find opportunities to donate direct: no middleman, nobody knows.
I agree with you completely about not giving to charities, I never give, as most of the money is used to pay the extremely high salaries and trips etc. for the bosses. Not only that, most charity organisations here, expect you to send money every month: it's not seeing them in the street corner and signing up for a 1 time donation, no, they expect you to pay each month.
Must be lots of gullible people who make donations otherwise they just disappear…yes, they ask donations everywhere now - in a grocery shops, etc. and you feel kind of uncomfortable when you say “no”doh
No box store. I will not round up so the corporation can siphon the bulk, donate junk or expired and claim tax breaks and then brags what they do for charity!very mad
Way back when I was a state employee, my supervisor tried to hit me up for United Way. I told him that "corporate charity" is an oxymoron, and I'm not here to be a target. That might have been a career-ender, except that within a couple weeks the head of the state United Way was indicted for fraud. How in hell was I so clairvoyant? Dunno. A miracle maybe.
What gets my goat is how box stores and groceries donate food that is past prime or almost out dated to food pantries and pat them selves on the back and get tax credits for donating. But, they wont lower the prices cause that would allow the average shopper with a tight budget savings and the store loss of tax credit. Gee...here...have this brown banana and soft apple and say thank you.very mad
I too gave up on charities when I found out how much they paid themselves. Now I only give to the local one who asks for an extra item when you do your shopping and this is done by local women who I know are unpaid, the other is a one off to the local pompiers (firemen) as a lot of them are volunteers.
Why do they advertise their charities just as your sitting down to eat. The homeless charities are always advertising over Christmas surely the homeless are homeless all year. I'd rather buy an extra sandwich for them than give them money or give them pet food as they normally have a dog with them.
I grew up being told to eat up and think of all the starving children in biafra, yes I'm that old, and yes they're still starving so where has the money gone, filling CEO pockets and arms.
