Fall on the farm.

I am cold! Why is 55 so warm in January and so cold in October!?frustrated Got the doors on to enclose the deck and steps end of the loggia. Moved the plant pots up that will winter in the house once freeze comes. Including "Igor" the decades old Angel Trumpet plant that weighs a ton. I am mean..I lop his heads off now. Enough trying to wrestle a 6 foot tall plant in the house. I also have 2 of his kids to bring in. And spider plants. So long empty hallway.sigh
I had late kittens. 3 from "Gator" and 4 from "Blanket". The 3 were super floof balls. Found homes and hated to see them go. NO! Enough cats! The 4 were black and tuxedo and one grey. Blasted possum got into the loggia and ate the grey. That was settled..possum got to eat 3 bullets also. Dang they are tanks!!
I want to keep 2 blacks once I decide which. I am tired of almost white cats. Especially since I wear black mostly. Thanks for the fur coat gang!
Had heavy rain yesterday. In living room and..?? Why are there water drops on floor? Look up at wood paneled ceiling and two drops hanging at seam.wow very mad doh I did this roof maybe 10 years ago. And just cleaned it off and it looks good. So..maybe..water pooled on flat porch and back fed?blues So next week, up with can of Leak Ender and see if I find anything. Always something.
I am using two space heaters. Wood is not done. Tenant is ill and swears he will do and doesn't. So called neighbor who is like son, and hunter and they will haul the rest up and do it. I don't want to start wood furnace anyway. Once it is going, I have to deal with wood for whole winter. A month less isgrin I uncovered the fire place flue so can use that first if I wish. Or not. I cover so in spring I dont get any more blasted ducks down it!doh
Hay is stowed. Corn coming in and soon I can hibernate.dancing

Good on ya Orzz get all your crops harvested and lick back for the winter, it's spring here in NZ and i'm busy preping garden beds and planting veges..
Wow, like totally a completely different life, enjoy reading about it but I'm not great on cold weather so reading is the closest I will get to experiencing it.

I lived in Scotland where winter solstice, it was full dark by 4 pm and sunrise was after 9 am. Summer solstice, the sky never really got completely dark but the least light was between midnight and 3 am. Too much dark does my head in. Every house is geared to keeping warm in winter, central heating, thick carpets, topped with rugs, on floors, thick drapes to cut out the dullness outside.

In southern Spain it is getting dark earlier now (never earlier than around 6 pm, though, even by the solstice) and the nights are cool enough already that I need my lightweight mohair blanket. By January there will be a quilt as well, plus heated blanket to warm the bed before I get there. Plants will continue flowering all winter, and are already putting out some good stuff after the "concentrate on survival" mode of summer. I love the idea of a fire but don't have one in the house, heaters (either gas or radiator) in room by room as needed. The coldest moment is stepping out of the hot shower into the cold bathroom, brrrr. Every house in Spain is geared to keeping cool in summer so the walls are thick, the floors tiled, freaking freezing when there is a cold snap but even then the sun is usually shining.

Doesn't sound as challenging as yours and I DO miss the Scottish autumn / fall, and the amazing colours. But not the rain, and the unending grey. A brisk sunny winter day in Scotland is a celebration, in Spain the norm ...

Enjoy the kittens and having a warm lap for winter!
