NOW HIRING...

I hit a few appointments today where one was at a construction site and another the service entrance to a large condominium. It's become normal to have NOW HIRING painted on the work trucks.
Why the constant advertising for tradesmen ??
I suppose when times are good, businesses are expanding and always have the word out for more help.
I cannot say, times are good right now, so my realistic thought is the working conditions with those companies is so bad that they have a constant turnover in help, thus requiring hiring all the time!

That reminds me of a company I worked for 35 years ago where the owner didn't have to fire many people... they usually quit after a month or two.

I think at one point, he had employed every cabinet maker in the county.

Two reasons. First, lack of skilled workers. Young dont know how and too spoiled to learn. Second, job is a hell hole. Like glass mfg, foundries, roofers. Or company that uses and abuses and fires and calls temp agency for new fodder.
Plumbers and electricians have to be certified/licensed. Unless there's a way around that with 'trainees' doing most of the grunt work and one licensed tradesman certifying the final product.
Possible?
I can only speak for my neck of the woods...

We are still having a building boom...and, any kind of contracting business is having trouble keeping up with the amount of housing and rentals being built..

The market here has cooled down from a year ago, but retirees (with money) are still moving here.

Many of the high school students are opting for a trade instead of a college degree.

Most companies here pay for someone with no skills (detail etc.) $15.00 an hour to start. Restaurants are paying cooks $25.00 an hour and many have sign on bonuses of 2 grand...

I do not think young people are spoiled at all..they work in many places I go to..Most are very polite and helpful..and, happy..Imagine that.
I hear Florida is getting over crowded so some are leaving the state. I see young people working around here. Take off the day whenever they feel like it. Spend more time on phones than waiting on customers. And lots that change jobs every couple of months because they got asked to actually do some work. It is sad that when I encounter a young person who is skilled, ambitious and eager, I make a note of it. Used to be the slough off was the exception. Now it is the go getter.
I know a guy who is 20 and so lazy it is crazy. Another 25 who thinks a 4 hour day is too much. I wonder about the Gen Z. What I am hearing is not good.scold

Who's raising those slackers, anyway?
It is getting very crowded...one of the reasons, when I built my home..I moved further south in the same county.

I had lived within a 5 mile radius all my life...Where I lived used to be the boonies...a few neighborhoods and nothing but orange trees and cattle...a two lane road...

Now, a six-lane road and and neighborhoods.

Gen Z will have to learn that to get ahead in the world, one must be responsible....and have a good work ethic...

I too, make note of it and I tell them they are doing a great job...and thank them...I think the media portrays groups the way they see fit..
Many people change jobs every few months...not just the young...

I think if parents have a good work ethic...children see this and most will have the same..
The problem is generational. Great grandparents worked hard to provide more for their kids than they grew up with. Then grand parents did the same for their kids. Parents added to the spoiling. Then society and the do gooders got their say so in. Now we have the end result. A bunch of lazy, spoiled kids with no reason to work for anything. No cooping skills so they do drugs, booze and commit suicide when things get hard.
The woke moment has destroyed parents rights. We have become the worlds largest welfare nation. Kids have no drive and no incentive to achieve the American Dream cause it is handed to them.
Now we are getting flooded with third world people who will bring their troubles with them. And what do we do, hand THEM everything.
The worst is all the people want to crowd into only certain areas, cities, states. When dad bought this farm, there were 9 farms from here to town, 10 miles away. I counted a few years ago and those farms are not farms, just the old compound. All split up and I counted 50 house. Now even a few more. Now wonder nature and the powers that be are doing population control. doh
