There's a moose loose aboot this hoose!....

You know, for as long as I can remember, I have always had certain animals and birds that have been my favourites....many of them I will probably never ever get to see, but have a love and a fascination for them anyway. It's an odd thing really, but I have always been fascinated by many of the animals that generally live in Canada..... Moose, Beaver, Bear and Wolf. I have never seen any of these critters, and can't explain why they are my favourites! The strange thing is....all these animals lived in Scotland 100's or even 1000's of years ago!

The controversial plans of the laird of the Alladale estate, right up in the north of Scotland, wants to bring back some of the animals that roamed wild in Scotland all those years ago. He has introduced wild boar, and in 2007 he flew over two moose (European Elk) from Sweden. The female moose has just given birth to the cutest little moose-baby you ever did see!!! heart wings heart wings laugh So near, yet so far!!!! roll eyes doh laugh

In May 2009 the first beaver families were released in Knapdale, Argyll, as part of a five-year trial reintroduction, although previously captive beavers have been living in and around the River Tay and it’s tributaries for around 10 years now! I live in this region, but have sadly, never seen one.

The seasonal wildlife program "Springwatch" has been featuring live footage of the beavers in Knapdale, and I have been glued to the tv every night, watching them doing their stuff….building dams, felling trees, and generally keeping themselves busy, as only a beaver knows how laugh

I have had the privilege of seeing a lot of beautiful, wild and elusive animals and birds in my life, so my hope is, that one of these days I will be able to marvel at a moose, wonder at a wolf, be beguiled at a beaver or be blown away by the site of a bear! … Ever the optimist!! roll eyes laugh

Maine.

Back in the 90's... I went on a motorcycle trip with a friend... up through the New England states... through Lake Placid... rode the ferry across Lake Champlain... and one night we camped in Maine... after pitching the tent I rode to town for supplies... it was dark by then... middle of nowhere... no street lights outside of town... so I went slow... and to the side of my headlight... happily jogging down the shoulder of the road... a moose.

I didn't stop to say hi... just happy he didn't decide he wanted my space on the road. He/she was a bit in the shadows so I did ask myself a time or two "that was a moose, right?" laugh

After that night... over to the Maine coast (Bar Harbor)... beautiful area...

My one and only moose encounter.
Lovely blog! We had a seal up near one of the Thames bridges and a whale along the Thames once but the best are the deer we can see anytime of the year in a huge parks around here and one of these days I may even visit the Monkey walk at the zoo minus sunglasses as they tend to like to swipe people's sunglasses and run away up into the trees :laugh. I would love to see those little Humming birds that feed out of your hand in Alaska too - so pretty! wave
