Traumatized

I was awaiting the notice of death certificate, from a doctor at the trauma unit (not my ownroll eyes ) when two men carried a young woman in.
She was plonked rather unceremoniously onto a vacant bed. In their defense, it couldn't have been an easy task, although she wasn't big, but she was presenting herself as a dead-weight, since she wasn't supporting herself in any way.
After asking what had happened, the nursing staff were informed that she had drunk poison. . . rattex (for rats)
After taking her vitals, they partioned her bed from the rest and the staff set to work.
There were about ten beds in the unit, which at that point was not full, but there was about 5 nursing staff members on duty along with 1 doctor.

From our vantage point my cousin and I could catch glimpses of what was happening behind the partition.

The nurses had hooked her up to the necessary monitors, and IV's and were preparing to pump her stomach.
Suddenly, there was a lot of commotion. . . Paramedics who were still hanging around jumped in to assist . . all the nursing were behind the partition . . the doctor left us to go help . . the machines were making strange noises . . . . . . .
she was flat lining . . . . .

A security guard came over . . .looking rather upset . . . he stopped and addressing me, he started speaking, saying, that this girl had attempted to take her own life, because of that, right then at that point in time, the rest of the ward was forced to a stand still, it was frozen in time, because all of the available staff was around her trying to save her life . . . no other patients were seen to during that time, not the old lady who had just suffered a stroke or the young toddler who was distressed, or the lady in the wheelchair who was struggling to breathe . . .

After looking at the security guard and watching the faces of the nursing staff, it was apparant that all of them were distressed by the situation, they were desperate to save her life . . .but at the same time they were frustrated with her . . .

I was left wondering about a few things . . .
1. if she survived, would she even give a thought as to impact her actions had and how many had been affected by it?????'
2. if she didn't survive what effect would it have on those of us who had witnessed this whole traumatic episode?????
3. if she succeeded in her attempt to take away her own life, what effect would it have on those who had worked so hard to save it????
4. how did her actions affect her family?????
5. did her actions, make her problems go away?????

It made it clear to me once again, that no matter how much we sometimes wish or pretend otherwise, no man is indead an island....

Our lives remain inextricably linked to others and our actions have a ripple effect on those around us . . .

You know what came to my mind now when i read it? That if only half of those hands had touched her a few days earlier in love she might not have ended up there. We need more love i think, most of us.

I agree with Presuming 100%...ALWAYS tell those people who are important to you that you love them, because you never know what the future holds. After having spent several days with my Mother who lived 4 hours away, I left without telling her that I loved Her. It was only a couple of days later that I got the call that she was dead. I will forever regret that I never had one last opportunity to tell her how much she meant to me.
Easier said than done..
