what we talk about...

in the chemo lounge. It takes a while to connect. Unless you are my sister who talks to everyone and opens them up with a skill that would make her a top interviewer. I am, myself, a pretty good inteviewer but my perspective in the chemo lounge is different. I have a story as well.

We are not all on the same regimen so we meet spontaneously, sometimes changed by wigs or sudden loss of hair, or even a sprinkling of stubble where skin shone slickly days ago. We talk about and compare side effects, we talk about food, we talk about the doctors and their skill or lack of it in inserting the cannulas into our veins.

We have started talking about our specific challenges, i am currently the only brain/lungs, there are a frightening number of repeat breasts, and several colons. Many more women than men and by now I have been in the lounge every day of the week so I have seen the spectrum.

I have noticed that people make apoint of saying goodbye when they finish treatment. An affirmation of th return to normal life because even in between treatments there is nothing really 'normal' about our current lifestyles. It a suspension of all we know and a total re-evaluation of what matters.

Anyway it is 7.15, time to get ready to leave so I can finish this cycle and see if I can ride the moods more evenly. Human beings really are not comfortable with change. Nice to know for sure I am human!
