Chocolate And Orange Marbled Cakeyou need a ring mould for this
Ingredients:
For The Cake
225g unsalted butter cut into
small pieces and softened
225g caster sugar
4 eggs,beaten
300g self raising flour
1 large orange
2tbsps cocoa powder dissolved in
3tbsps hot water and cooled
for icing and decoration
125g dark chocolate chopped
125ml double cream
15g unsalted butter
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/gas 4.Beat the
butter until smooth and then beat in the caster
sugar until soft and creamy.
Gradually beat in the eggs,adding a tablespoon
of flour to prevent the mixture from curdling.
When all the egg have been added,gently stir
in the rest of the flour until its completely
combined.Grate the zest from the orange,but
be sure to only use the colored part of the
peel and dont grate the bitter white part
underneath.Squeeze the juice from the orange.
Spoon half the mixture into a bowl with the
grated orange zest and juice from the orange.
Spoon the rest of the mixture into a second
bowl and stir in the dissolved cocoa until
evenly combined.
Place he ring mould on a baking tray and
spoon in half the chocolate mixture,spacing
the spoonfuls apart.Fill the gaps with the
chocolate mixture.Swirl the two together
with a skewer.
Spoon in the remaining orange and chocolate
mixture alternately and swirl again.Bake
in the oven fro 30 minutes or until it is
springy to touch and a skewer pushed into
the cake comes out clean.Leave it to cool
for about 15 minutes.Turn onto a wire
rack to cool completely.
Put the chopped chocolate,cream and butter
in a heavy based saucepan and heat slowly
until the butter and chocolate has melted,
stirring until smooth.Drizzle the icing
over the cake and decorate with crystallized
orange slices.
