What is enough for you?

I just had a meeting with some friends. I took a (scriptwriter) friend who is interested in precious stone to meet my friend’s husband who collects and sells precious stone. They seemed to have great time discussing precious stone, like and old long friend, I had to leave them because I did not understand what so special about those stones. After more than 2 hours talking they got out of the room. My friend’s husband then gave me a pair of earrings with 4 small amethyst in each. An old man once told me my precious stone was amethyst. On the way back, I asked my friend to drop me at an ATM because I need to take some cash for taxi. He said I could use his money, he then gave me US 10. Because it’s more than what I need, I asked whether he had US 5, that should be enough. He said I’m the strangest person he’s ever met for asking less. I said why should I take more than what I need?

It got me thinking. Why taking only what you need become strange? Isn’t having what you need is enough. Why people should want more than what they need? I thought about the day I just had. Did I have enough of what I need? I think I do. In fact I more than enough. I am thankful for today.

I thanked that it was raining and traffic, that a taxi refused to take me to office. I thanked a delicious lunch I had at the office and an interesting meeting with a very kind boss and nice colleagues. I thanked a beautiful movies my boss shown to us. I thanked a nice dinner my friend prepared for me, a nice earring her husband gave, a good friend who gave me money for taxi, traffic that made the driver refused to take me home and just asked me to get off out of nowhere, and a motor taxi that came when I needed. And I thanked my kids who welcomed me with hugs. Did I have enough? Oh yes! I think I have more than enough.
