Walden, to live deliberately.

Being a freelance, I have the privilege to work with many different people, from many different background. Always something new to learn, be it the work, or the people I am working with.

I think, the hardest part of working is dealing with people. We can't control how the do, why they do the way the do their work. Well, that makes life then, as in life we deal with people. This reminds me of a writer who deliberately withdraw himself from society, to live in a forest, by himself. That probably was the best decision he has ever made in his life. At least I enjoy reading his experience in Walden.

I was at the edge of my life and a good friend gave me a post it saying "This is your prescription" with this book written there. I rushed to the nearest book store and bought it. From this book I learned to live deliberately rather than desperately. This book has taught me to own my life back, live it the way I want it, not what society expect me to.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion. — Henry David Thoreau

A book worth reading.

never read the book.. but went to Waldon pond.. where the book was written.. 20 years later I moved into the woods myself.. still haven't read the book.. but could probably write something similar.. when the distractions of a busy life with the constant influence of others is removed from your every day routine you have no choice but to get back to the basics.. and make what you use to mindlessly buy to provide for every day needs.. I think if everyone had to do that for even just a few months out of their lives they would become far less wasteful and more aware of what really matters instead of wanting to be like the people around them
all is inside , the forest too...
Hi Brian, you've been in Walden Pond, wow! Maybe I'll go there one day, or maybe not. I wont do something extreme like withdrawing from society and live on my own, but I guess being aware that my life is mine is already a big step. But I have always wanted to grow my ow food though, so I can control what I consume, no GMO product for sure. And I have done some DIY like making my own jam from organic fruits, my own soap from organic oils. It's good to be able to control what you consume, making sure no dangerous ingredients inside.

krishna, a name I like :) Reminds me of my friend name Krishna who do organic farm in Bali. He is mostly bare foot, bare chest, stop using shampo and soap, tooth paste, basically any detergen. He uses oil for that. He has a soft nice skin and a beautiful long hair. I guess that's what happen when you live in harmony with nature.
Brian, congratulation on quitting smoking, I quit 13 years ago :)
I agree with Brian. Going back to basics chance your whole outlook on life. Experience it myself and can see it in my son. He is currently busy chopping wood. Most people who knew him before won't believe a nerd like him can do stuff like that
thank you.. I quit in April actually.. and good for you on even just doing some for yourself and most of all. learning
When I got divorced and mangled by my "EX" I started living for myself and my (our) children even when she was being a hag and interfering with my visits. Yeah, it all came back to her!

I have been single ever since in my own "Walden", I suppose, because I don't know what the book really says. I love to read and I am reading 3 books right now.

That is next on the agenda!!

How is your new project coming along?

Hi Ed, everything is going smoothly well here, this month I have been going back and fort to Bali for the new job, while still finishing the magazine I am managing in Jakarta. And next month I will move to Bali and start fully working at the resort. Finger crossed and I hope everything also goes well with you hug
Essentially, we are all part of Nature. We came from her and shall return to her some day. Realizing our connection with her and being aware of this in our daily lives is a source of deep and genuine fulfilment.
socrates, I second that! Thank you for stopping by and nice meeting you handshake
