My favorite bookend for over a decade

For 14 years whenever I was reading or watching television in our living room this was almost always what I saw, day or night, if I looked up. She would just lay there for hours and watch over me. Of course if I left the room, she would usually follow and assume an overwatch position in the next room as needed. After about 3 years she began to recognize that if I had an empty coffee cup in my hand, or I said bathroom, there was no need to follow because I would be back in a few minutes. This spot was reserved for her and the other cats respected that. A month later it still stings when I look up and see no one there.

Ken, i believe understand you; i lost a dog a few years ago, and took me awhile to get a new one.
cheers
True that. We had my parent's dog for our first four or five years of our marriage. He had been with me or my parents for just under 19 years when he had to be put down. In truth the wife and I were walking into walls for months after that. A very good friend he was. We couldn't emotionally handle another dog yet, but as I wrote elsewhere, this little girl was just waiting on the game trail for me one day when I walked the route the dog and I used to walk. She was all blue eyed and then small enough to pick up and put in my pocket for the walk home, which I did. I never regretted that. My wife fell in love with her instantly.
Losing my Bulldog was more than I could bear, broke my heart in a thousand tiny pieces...Bobby, my black cat had to be put down the year before. I have three cats now....they are good company...comfort

I have a little maltese dog, we've owned him for close to six years, and if something ever happened to him I would be devastated

I am certainly sad when I lose a close one. Yes, that means animals, too!

Get a new kitty as soon as your feeling up to it and it will love you just as much!
those empty spots are hard for us who are left behind. But knowing that you did your best for them, that will help even if its just a bit. Take care hug
