Very nice, indeed!

I like them critters! Years ago I lived in this apartment behind this mans house. It had a huge backyard and under the concrete steps leading down to the backyard were these 3 huge turtles living under the steps. They had dug themselves little caves to live in!

Thank you everyone.....His name is "Sluggy II" after the first turtle I had when my kids were little. Once in Tacoma, Washington I was visiting my good friend, Happy G. We were in his Auto Wrecking business when a box turtle walked in throught he front door. His son said he's looking for Volkswagon "turtlback" parts" and we all laughed. Hap said what shall we do with him? I replied, "Well, I'll take him home for my kids!" And my kids loved him...he ran around our house....we had him for years. It is good karma to save animals!!!angel

Judged by the hand holding it, it is still relatively young. Ours get a somewhat bigger. We have a very much larger species too, but I think they are a threatened species. The smaller ones are still present in large numbers. Once again man is their biggest enemy. Apart from being killed in large numbers by cars, they (and their eggs) are being eaten.

You call it HE. From the little I can see of the "stomach" it appears to be female, but then you had it in your hand, you probably know better.
Oh, I forgot,
Why do everybody call it a turtle? It is a tortoise.

Box turtle, I pick them up off the roads near my house fairly often. I usually place them and the turpins in the woods a few hundred yards from the roads. Hopefully that was where they were trying to go.
