Milk

I asked a young child where milk came from. He answered the supermarket. Well not the answer I was expecting.

@ Moelle - Maybe it comes from the female gender of mammals..... dunno confused

...... grin hug wine
laugh I think the answer is correct.... what answer do you expect Moelle ? from cows... applause
Of course not cows Ms SA. The right answer is the supermarket.
You mean you are not positively sure Hans
Youngsters today believe milk, meat and all those foods are made in a factory and delivered to the store. There is a half truth in that someone delivers it. Too few youngsters are involved in food production anymore for them to know reality. In Western countries probably less than one in fivehundred has ever held the insides of a chicken in their hands, or plucked feathers. Probably fewer than that have any concept of how to handle a live goat, pig or steer if they are hungry and one is given to them.
Very sad and someday probably millions will starve if the stores stop.
Moelle They did a questionaire here about Rashers/Bacon and kids said it came out of a packet !! like the Milk it comes from a Bottle or Cartion.
Last night i was watching a DVD about modern 'Farming' methods used by mcDonalds and other large Burger chains and it was the most disturbing Video I have watched in a long time. It was about the workers sneaked across the border [not for McDonalds] but another chain, the cheap labour, the dangerous conditions , but most of all the horrific lives these Cattle had before the awful slaughter houses,... it put my off Meat. I was a Vegetarian for years and went back because Doctor made me as I was anaemic, but now I don't think I could touch it. Take care.
Yes and it is not beyond reality that there will be no more stores in the world Ken.
This is life dear green eyes. Killing for food is natural even among animals. If you can stay vegeterian it is better but if not do not feel guilty about it. You also take care.
For kids milk comes out of a bottle. laugh

My cousins always got their milk from our farm and I can remember milking some milk directly from the cow into a glass for one of the kids. He was just laughing and didn't want to drink it first. They have to see how food is produced and it's fairly normal that school kids visit farms to get an idea - which I think is a good thing.
It was cutr the glass patt Knenagh. Yes s good idea for children to visit farms
Moelle How did you know ~i had green eyes !!!?????confused
Yes gold from your profile photo
When I was a kid growing up in the big city the school classes did visit a farm. Cows, chickens goats and pigs. All that jazz. It was a fun day and I believe with hindsight some impressions if not actual learning were gleaned. This was before zoning laws. They came into being back in the 60s (an evil invention with good intentions). One by one the farms were forced to close because replacing sold or dead animals without paying a huge fee was not a legal option. Also noise laws and urban sprawl. I believe about 15 years ago I read a blurb somewhere about how the last farm in that city was finally closed and the land sold to developers who had been eying the land for decades.
It is hard for me to imagine in this economy a school board approving the funding for an overnight bus trip for the first graders to go see a genuine farm. I say overnight because the nearest working farm from my old school is now about 100 miles away versus the 4 miles of my youth. So I am dubious that ALL inner city kids still get to see working farms, except maybe in movies. And then no doubt it will be some kind of silly touchy feely movie about the poor animals escaping a demonic farmer, not a this is how we make food movie.
