The presenter worked in the aerospace industry. The pics are worth a watch.
Whether Earth grows or shrinks, it's circumference will always(!) be 21,600 traditionally defined nautical miles.
Why?
Because a nautical mile was originally based on a 360° circle.
It's one minute of longitude at the Equator...
60' (minutes) of arc per degree × 360° = 21,600.
If one's going to measure distances over the surface of a sphere, nothing could be more sensible than measuring in degrees of arc.
One can judge distances in nm just by looking at any globe marked off in degrees.
Hard to imagine anything more simple.
