Ancient times

In ancient times some peoples sacrificed their children to the gods. I wonder were some threatened if they refused too do so.

It was common practice to appease the gods with both human and animal sacrifice.
It was often the enemy who was sacrificed, or a leader who reigned during a particularly bad harvest.

I doubt many did it willingly, or gave up family members willingly.

I think when a culture is so then without thought that's what happens. We evolve so it seems aberrant now

Still some cultures cut their daughter, or give them away as brides at a young age doh so some cultures still ancient I reckon

To my understanding, generally it was the sacrifice of someone else's children. They were not threatened so much as slaughtered. There may be some precedents for an annual tribute of youths to be sacrificed from conquered peoples to the victors.
