RE: Who is next?

Many people worldwide care deeply about the state of affairs in Ukraine, not just regarding Ukraine but the fact Russia decided to make an unprovoked attack on a sovereign nation, these people can see that should Russia succeed, then the many countries around Russia will also be targets for an invasion.

It is imperative that Ukraine is allowed to maintain its sovereignty and stop Russia's highly illegal war, not just for Ukraine but for all Russia's bordering nations.

The world needs to support Ukraine and end this war.

RE: Who is next?

From the last word of the journalist Roman Ivanov, sentenced a few days ago to seven years in prison for “fakes” - that is, for telling the truth about the crimes of the Russian army in Ukraine:
“I don’t want to talk and discuss about journalism, about its problems in Russia, because there is no journalism in Russia anymore. I don’t want to talk about the judicial system, about the court, because there is no judicial system, no justice in Russia either. I don’t want to talk about politics, which doesn’t exist in Russia either. I just want to say about us, about all people, about Russians. To say that we all want to be happy.
Man is designed in such a way that he dreams of his own happiness. Will those who brought this criminal case against me, who persecuted me, who judge me, who protect me, be happy? if I am unhappy, if my family is unhappy? Of course not. We must ask ourselves why we sow grief and misfortune around us, while our country has simply turned into an avalanche of grief and misfortune."

Who is next?

The details:

“Learned today. And it shook me. Remember, that at the day of funeral they didn’t close the cemetery at 17.00 as usual, but kept it open until 22.00? The thing is, when at 17.00 they told Ludmila Navalnaya to leave the cemetery, she answered: “No, not going to leave. People is still coming. I’ll wait for everyone, who came to Lesha (Aleksei).” They started to threaten her that they will take her out by force. “Do it”, she said calmly. They didn’t dare. The mother of her son. A bow.”

Who is next?

The third day people is bringing flowers to Navalny's grave.

As the poet said:

"They have mercy on martyrs,
pray for them, say they go to heaven.
Not so nice with the living,
but sure, we care for the dead."

The current regimen has openly admitted that it is a sub-human species.

- at least they don't arrest the peaceful protesters.
- at least they don't beat the peaceful protesters.
- at least they don't issue prison time to peaceful protesters.
- at least they don't torture you in prison for a peaceful protest.
- at least they don't kill you in prison for a peaceful protest.
- at least they release the body of a killed peaceful protester to his mother.
- at least they allow to bury the body of a killed peaceful protester.
- at least they don't beat the mourners, bringing flowers to the grave of a killed peaceful protester.

As they say on the maps: Russia, you are here.

When you thought you reached the bottom, putler knocked from under.

Who is next?

I've reread my opening post and then the replays. Well... I am glad that people have reacted in one or another way, but you can notice that no one said: there will be no next. People discussing something or other, not so much the political prisoners' fate and when doing so it comes out as discussion a race horse stature; it's chances to win. No one said: there should be no next.

But there should be NO NEXT. Political prisoners should be FREE.

Who is next?

It's the Russian (original) version of the paper and the link leads to a place there you can lit a (virtual) candle for Navalny, if you want to.

RE: Who is next?

My point was that when you learn and understand history you can see a commonality between the rise of dictators. Exactly what Trump is doing right now. It was not an insult!

It is your right to love and admire a proven criminal, woman abuser and pathological liar, I however, would prefer a president with integrity, and who is respectful of the entire population.

I too, find it unreasonable that you refuse to look at the whole picture and demand that I use blinkers rather than see exactly what is happening.

Who is next?

Your link leads to a article about Dmitry Bykov. Yes, I know about him and like him a lot, thanks.

Here's a link to one of Shulman's lecturer, if you are interested. It's about state of mind in Russia for a few months ago:

How does Trump stand for freedom when he has stated he will lock up anyone who has opposed him?

Surely you are not that blind?

RE: Who is next?

I think you are mistaken about Riz. History will repeat itself if we do not learn from it. The message he is trying to convey is not an insult but a warning if we choose to look the other way.

RE: Who is next?

Time you read some actual history books on dictators like Pol Pot, Hitler, Kim Jong Un etc etc. They may well open your eyes to the terrifying aspect of Trump being elected President of the USA.

RE: Who is next?

If history can provide a lesson to learn from, it would be a mistake to accept the word of Putin and think that will be the end of aggression.

RE: Who is next?

So you keep saying ,but are you really sure about that.

This is what the Czech president thinks:-

"Russian President Vladimir Putin, after his expected re-election as head of state, will seek to achieve at least partial goals - full control over the occupied regions, especially Donbas," he says.

At the same time, Pavlo notes that the war in Ukraine will not end quickly, "because neither Russia nor Ukraine can achieve their goals."

"Logically, Ukraine seeks to regain full control over its territory within internationally recognized borders, which should be supported," he says.

Why is no-one else allowed to put themselves forward for election in the next Vote for Presidency in Russia . Makes Putin appear like a despot to be honest .What is he afraid of?

RE: Why do so many people not understand that the usa is a constitutional federal republic?

Well the problem is not just the polarisation and unilateralism of the political parties and politicians, it is the polarisation of the American people. It is a world trend in fact, just that America has it in SPADES and it has been increasing for at least the last 30 years. The solution lies not in the politicians but in getting the people to pull together. If the American people could do that, would it not be a truly awesome place!?

RE: Jury selection...

I am surprised that they managed to come up with the amount of jurors so quickly...but naturally they are going to sift through endless trails to ensure no juror has engaged in any negative media posting regarding Trump...I can imagine Trump will pull a tantrum and accuse the trial being rigged...laugh

RE: Why do so many people not understand that the usa is a constitutional federal republic?

Did I mention Jan 6th.?

The 14th Amendment was meant to be a protection against State violence starting with the civil rights and privileges of all citizens in all parts of the Republic.

There are many cases out there relating to this amendment being broken from way back.

RE: Soaring gas prices

Well being outside of the US we have a different world here
so we only get half a gallon for 3.50.

It was worse a year or two ago, now it stabilized a tad.

Anyhows I think we need Trump back to bring back the optimism.
If possible.

RE: Soaring gas prices

Shawn. Here is what I expect will happen:

not so much

And let's say Trump, our guy, gets back in he can only partially modefy this to the better. Just a tiny litte adjustment down. Cos the damage is done already. Prices went up all over the world cos some (selfish mf's) milked the situation for temselves, and now we can never really get back I fear. However if they had not been allowed to steal it in 2020 and Trump had stayed in charge, well we would not had been in this mess to begin with.

RE: Soaring gas prices

No president has control of oil prices, aha... but does he
have a say in ordering pipelines blown up? confused
Does he have a say in foreign policies including wars?
Does he have a say in how to handle national crises like Covid?
Does he and his government have a say in what countries to put sanctions on?
Does he and his gov have a say in what national energy politics should be on
What about green power and investments vs more traditional energy sources?
Is the present adm for or against fracking?

Basically are you a 100% sure "no president has control of oil prices" whatsoever?
These things are not intertwined?

RE: Soaring gas prices

Adressing one person of the lot of you always makes it too personal,
so - instead in general:

I think what made the prices go up was a combo of covid and Putins invasion of Ukraine.
Then it's up to each and everyone if they will believe DT would/could have
handeled that combo any different than the sitting adm. I know what I feel on that.

Thanks for the blog Shawn.

Can you lay out for us what is the main difference between the former administration and this one so that folk can understand what to vote for. Are you an american, and why did you move abroad.
