Completing the new Star Wars game!

Yesterday at around this time, I booted up the new Star Wars game on my PlayStation. Jedi: Fallen Order, is the name of it.

I completed the storyline 5 minutes ago. So how's it like?

Well, it's a brutal, tricky, savage, irritating and amazing piece of gaming. They DID say it was a mix between Dark Souls and a good old fashioned adventure platform game, and I really loved that. I played on story mode for the most of the game, but that was so I could enjoy the game even more. And enjoy it, I did.

It's a fantastic game, with a way too short of a story. But we do get to say hello to a few old favorites from the franchise!

8/10!

Joey Chestnut did it again...

Every 4th of July, Nathan's Famous (company) sponsors a hotdog eating contest in Coney Island. This year added masks. Defending his throne, Joey Chestnut gobbled down 75 hotdogs breaking his record of 71 from last year making 13 years of competitive wins. Second-place fell short of Joey by 30 hotdogs.

Congrats to Kiki Sudo who took first place again in the women's division by wolfing down 48 'dogs' making it her 7th win!

Completing a game that leaves you go "That's it? Really?"

This month's free games on the PS4 is Worms Rumble and Just Cause 4. I decided to get both, and then play Just Cause 4. The lead character is Rico Rodriguez, an Agency asset, sent to topple various dictators around the World. The 4th game is set in a fictional South American country called Solís, which is home to extreme weather conditions. Rico takes on the Black Hand, the world's most powerful private army run by Gabriela Morales. The Black Hand served as a mercenary group to dictators Salvador Mendoza from the first Just Cause and Sebastiano Di Ravello in Just Cause 3. When Rico is shown evidence that his late father was working with The Black Hand, he plunges into the South American nation of Solís, the homeland of the Black Hand in search of answers.

The gameplay is an open world action adventure game, where the aim is to cause chaos. You do that by BLOWING S#!T UP! Literally! Anything marked with red can be blown up. We are talking fuel depots, barrels and various other things. You can also blow up fuel stations, which creates a MASSIVE fireball!

The devs of the game have REALLY made sure that the explosions looks as epic as possible, and they do! However - and there IS a however - the game has annoying side quests. One of the people offering side quests is an American film director, who is on Solís to shoot a movie, and she drafts Rico to shoot certain scenes. It can be a high speed pursuit, a wing suit stunt or a bike race. They are VERY annoying! As in "Oh stop giving me these damn side missions, please"

The story is just 20 hours long, and it's surprisingly boring. You'd think that in an action blow-stuff-up-epicly kind of game, the story would be equally as amazing. The only issue is: It isn't. When the story was completed, I was sitting in my chair going "That's it? Wow, that was anti climactic".. But I got the game for free, so I can't really complain.

Next up is House Flipper, a game that I have played extensively on the pc. It's now out on consoles, so I am playing it there as well!

Rating for Just Cause 4: 7/10

The smell was awesome...

I'm back from a short trip to Ohio this weekend to see my brother. The trip was initially to take measurements for furniture and an office relocation. But, that wasn't more than a day's task.

We went fishing at 3 places on Friday and only caught a few fish too small to keep.
I ate lots of food including a Cannoi that was the best I've had in years. Much better than the Italian bakery in Miami where I grew up.

On Saturday, we drove to the outskirts of town to visit an outdoor shooting range.
We stopped at a gun shop on the way so I could purchase a 1-day firearms permit.
Interesting that the gun license was $5 and the 1-day fishing license was $15.

There was lots of testosterone on display at the gun range and I counted more than 20 semi-automatic tactical rifles for the guys in the 100-150 yard section.

My brother and I were in the 5-10-15 yard area as he brought a Smith & Wesson 380 semi-automatic pistol.

I did some quick research and see it's in the low-end of the scale in price. My brother only goes to the range once or twice a year so he cannot justify something more expensive. He had 2 full boxes and one opened ammo, so I'm guessing we fired off more than 120 rounds.

The place is supervised and an instructor followed us out just to see what we were all about. With a bullseye of 8 inch diameter at 10 yards my brother for got all of the first clip into the inner 3 rings and one into the bullseye. The instructor was a bit surprised as my 74 year old brother with shaky hands did so well. With a smile, I told her he's a retired Army Major. She acknowledged we didn't need supervision.

Every shot I took was in the in the 8x8 stick-on target, but I was disappointed my accuracy wasn't better.

For a few weeks now I've been having earaches since I went to a jobsite where they were removing a tile floor and again when they were core drilling a cement slab (reminder to self ALWAYS carry ear plugs when visiting construction sites) so the ringing in my ears (tinnitus) was at an all-time high. I had construction ear plugs inside the ear muffs and it was a good thing.

I've always been sensitive to smells and having witnessed fireworks over the years, I noticed the fired gunpowder was different than common fireworks. Yeah... the smell was awesome and I wonder if the fascination of people discharging firearms is partly due to the smell.

Mega Millions...

Mega Millions Lottery Jackpot is up to $850 million with the drawing Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

This is the third largest jackpot in lottery history.

I used to work at a place with about 50 employees and whenever the jackpot was high they would pool their monies and buy a stack of tickets. We used to talk about renting a tour bus to ride to the capitol to collect our winnings. That never happened.

5 bucks to get in on the lottery pool... It's nearly a year since I worked there and I suppose if I asked, they would let me get in on the action!

MegMegMega Millions... You can't win if you don't play!

Government Simulator - a video game!

The other day, I was browsing Steam, and I came across a game, that sounded extremely interesting. It was called Government Simulator, and the description read the following:

"Government Simulator is a is a simple economic and political simulation game based on real-world data. Take control of a whole country, like the USA, Germany, France, Russia, or Austria. Change laws, taxes and budgets based on real world statistics and data, and see what happens."

There are no missions, and the game is purely text based. But never the less, I bought the game and tried to see if I could fix America.

The first few things I did were:

Implemented strict gun control. Like VERY strict! Up to a point where it was a crime to own one, unless you possessed a hunting license
Invested heavily in education
Implemented Free Abortion
Did some tweaks to certain laws
Ramped up the tax bracket for the wealthiest Americans
Gave tax breaks to low-income families

And what did all that result in?

Debt completely wiped out, and I created a 13.9 billion dollar surplus.
Unemployment rate was at 4%

Approval rating: 100%!

Keep in mind, that it's only a video game, and thus there is no way to tell if that would happen if the US did the same as I did in the game. But still, it makes you think.

Next time, I will try to tackle Russia!
