Greenland - a review!

2020 was widely regarded as the worst year in modern history, but it did give us some great films, such as Soul, Tenet and the new apocalypse drama Greenland. So, what is Greenland about?

Starring Gerard Butler as John Garrity and Morena Baccarin as Allison Garrity, they play an estranged couple, who is struggling to survive in the face of a cataclysmic natural disaster. The trailers make it seem like an action packed apocalypse thriller, but it's not. What it is, is a drama with an apocalypse as backdrop. The estranged couple, along with their seven year old son Nathan, is selected by the government to be relocated to a safe location, which is classified. Along the way to safety, the family faces various challenges as well as some desperate people.

My roommate and his girlfriend didn't like it, but I did. It's refreshing to see Gerard Butler in a drama, rather than in an action flick. I do like him in action films, but it's nice to see his acting spans other genres than action. I know he's been in romantic stuff as well, but I haven't seen those films, since they aren't really my thing.

Anyway! The rest of the core cast consists of Roger Dale Floyd as Nathan and Scott Glenn as Allison's father, Dale.

Greenland is a great watch, if you are in the mood for a character driven drama set in an apocalypse which might or might not happen. However, parents might find two particular scenes hard to watch, since it deals with a parents worst nightmare. Still, if you want to kill two hours and enjoy Gerard Butler speaking with his normal Scottish accent, then this movie might just be for you!

8/10

Greenland is avaliable on VOD now!

New bingeworthy stuff!

The other day, I found myself watching WrestleMania 35 on YouTube.. Well, some of it.. The first 2 hours and 11 minutes, the rest was not in the video. The announcer in the video, said that new subscribers to the WWE Network, got their first month for free. So I signed up, hoping to find the full WrestleMania 35 on there, which I found. I picked up from where the YouTube video left off, and let me tell you: The athletes competing in WWE are some of the finest in the World. Always in great shape, displaying moves that I haven't seen in a long while, and super entertaining storylines.

Sidenote: I know wrestling is fake. That doesn't stop it from being super entertaining.

From WrestleMania 35, I watched the 2019 Royal Rumble, which was even more entertaining. There was one guy named Braun Strowman, a behemoth of a man! 6 foot 8, weighing 385 lbs. He is just unstoppable! Royal Rumble was extremely entertaining, so I was pleased. I then watched the newest NXT match, which was small scale, but it was so cool to see! NXT is where the new talent are competing, hoping to get "promoted" to the big leagues.

I then saw the most infamous match in all of WWE - Hell In A Cell. The main event was Seth Rollins vs. The Fiend. That event was absolutely fantastic! Probably my favorite event so far. The Fiend is just a mountain of terror. The match was held under red lights, which made The Fiend look even more menacing and terrifying.

I am definitely not regretting signing up!

Designated Survivor (Season 1) - a review!

A few days ago, I began a new show called Designated Survivor. I reviewed the pilot episode, and I have now just finished season 1.

So was it worth it? Was the show as good as the first episode was?

Yes and no. Let me explain in detail!

I went into Designated Survivor with a curious mind. If Kiefer Sutherland is in it, then surely it wouldn't be bad. Right?

It's primarily a political series, with a lot of political doings in it. It also has some humor, and a fair bit of action. But the action scenes are somewhat lacking in excitement. Sure, there are shootouts, fistfights and car chases, but they are so poorly executed, that I was bored by them. I have seen better shootouts, fistfights and car chases in some YouTube shows.

The political bits is where Designated Survivor is best. It is extremely interesting to follow, and I am always enjoying the discussions they have. They use blackmail, extortion and all sorts of other political things, which makes for some excellent drama.

It has a very strong "24" element to it, but only on the political side. The action is sub-par to 24's excellent action scenes.

How about the actors? Surely big names such as Maggie Q, Natascha McElhone, Kal Penn, Italia Ricci and Kiefer Sutherland himself can make up for the dismal action scenes? Some of them do. Kal Penn is excellent as the speechwriter/special advisor/press secretary. I always enjoy seeing him on screen. Fun fact: He served as a consultant on the show, due to his work for the Obama administration. Kiefer Sutherland is great as the cabinet member turned President, and Maggie Q does a decent job as FBI Agent Hannah Wells.

While the show started off strong, is failed in the second half. I am not sure if I will begin season 2. The trailer will have to convince me.

All in all, season 1 gets a middle of the road 5. I guess I was expecting too much of the show.

I am going to prison.

Seriously. I am going to jail on Wednesday... To shoot an infomercial about the Probation Service here in Denmark. The infomercial consists of 5 videos, that depict the life of an inmate in a prison, and how that prison would be like, without the Probation Service.

I will be on set for about 2 and a half hours, which is a pretty short shoot for me. I am used to 8+ hours of shooting, so a 2 an a half hour shoot is just amazing!

The set is in a old prison, that is no longer used. The primary use now is for movies and tv shows. The most famous example, is a series of movies called The Olsen Gang, where three friends embark on all sorts of weird and wonderful heists and scores. The movies are beloved here, so I am actually quite honored to be taking part in a shoot in that old prison.

I have been told that the catering there isn't the best, so I have to have something with me from home. But a 2 and a half hour shoot shouldn't be too demanding. Unless there's riots or something like that.

I'm looking forward to it!
