RE: Kim Harrison: The Hollows Series

Zomg. Al and Rachel crack me up. I must admit, Ivy is my favorite character, though. I find myself relating to her.

RE: Hunter S. Thompson: Hells Angels

I grew up in northern california and the angels and other bikers back then were scary. you didnt look them in the eye, period. These yuppy steroid sissy bikers today are lame.

Hunter's life changed forever after he rode with the angels.

RE: Richard Bach: Johnathan Livingston Seagull

This is an excellent book, highly spiritual and metaphysical. I have had a copy in my library for years. Very much inspirational for those who do not follow the norm in life but seek beyond the everyday things. Neil Diamond produced a music cd based on the story. The cd is highly recommended, I have it in my collection. There is also a film version on dvd. Book, music cd, and dvd are a must for anyone's collection of the spiritual.

RE: Khaled Hosseini: The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns

Both books embody for me the awful social constriction of Secrecy.

What came across was the simplistic writing (a Gift that is not evident in all Authors that cover this Genre) that conveyed the real life, that is happening everyday in a world that we may not consider ourselves to be part of on a daily basis.

Women/Children/Men are living these lives and the reality is something that everyone should take on board. Should IS a strong word, I choose to use it, it takes Courage to live it.

Read and Reflect.

RE: Ken Kesey: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

If you've seen the movie, read the book.

I hadn't seen the movie when I was reading the book. An older friend of mine told me how he had snuck into the cinema (He was underage to see it) many moons ago when it was released and he went on to read the book because the movie had such an affect on him. I was reading it at the time he told me.

It portrays the human condition of individuality, the Chief for me is the one character that truly shows how someone can be pigeon-holed and how someone can have a reality that is truly at odds with their own self. He knew himself, no-one else did.

RE: David Eddings: Polgara the Sorceress

I have the 5 Belgariad,5 Mallorean, this one and Belgarath! They are my most favourite sets.I've read some of them so often,I'm on the 2nd copies! My son and I can spend hours talking about who we'd cast as the main characters if we made the films! So far,all we really agree totally on is Billy Connoly as Belgarath. We do like Jo Brand and John Sargent as the twins though!

RE: Anne Rice: Interview With The Vampire

I am a die-hard fan of Anne Rice's writing. I have almost all of her books. 'Interview with the Vampire' is a classic and it made the vampyric lore much more real and credible, like...vampires do exist parallel to us, in this same universe, why not?...fantastic book! But I enjoyed "Vampire Lestat", the second book, much more. I am currently reading her latest book "Angel Time: The songs of the Seraphim". Is a world of difference from 'Interview...' as it deals with God, Angels, Seraphs and a hit man...but the mesmerizing story telling, the graphic quality of her writing doesn't change. 'Interview' is a powerful book... you feel Louis's pain, Claudia's frustration, Lestat's cunning...

My...I'm going to have to read it all again...'The Vampire Chronicles' 'The New Vampire Chronicles', 'The Mayfair Waitches', and now the Angels Saga...

RE: Dave Pelzer: A child called "IT"

I agree with happy76. I couldn't read a book like this. But I saw Dave Pelzer on Oprah. She had read it & asked enough questions that I got the basic story... a lot of torture, trying to escape it, what has happened since, etc. I'll never forget his telling of A Child Called "IT"

RE: Douglas Adams: The Hitch-Hikers Guide To The Galaxy

Douglas Adams was in a word, brilliant. I have read everything of his that I can find. I love the way he paints a story with his words and his philosophy and humor. One of my favorites was published with help from his wife after his passing, it's called The Salmon of Doubt. If you love his writing this is the one to get!!! There will never be another like him.

RE: Jerome D Salinger: Catcher in the Rye

Excellent book , it is another book that gets wayyyyyy over hyped , glad I read it before I heard the hype grin
crotalus667

RE: Stephnie MEYER: The Twilight saga

been done before

They are most certainly not “the most EPIC love story/action/fantasy books ever made” entertaining yes a classic nope like a lot of books they are way too over hyped which is sad because people expect great literature and are disappointed when they don’t get it , they could be perfectly happy if they where just told the truth the series is just good old fashioned junk food for the mind “chick lit with vampires”
