Phoenix: Your half right. There are two nationalities on the Island of Ireland...But don't insult my intelligence by saying the Border wasn't forced upon northern nationalists.

I would never insult your intelligence! Yes northern nationalists were forced into the northern state, but the alternative was to force one million northern protestants into a state they didn't want, ie a united Ireland!

But the fact is Ireland was already United and the Brits didn't listen to the vast majority of Irish people who didn't want the country divided.

I consider myself a Republican but i have grown out of "the Brits this and The Brits that". We can't blame the current British regieme on mistakes made 90 years ago and i think in the last 10 years they have started to aknowledge mistakes of them past and are slowly trying to right a lot of wrongs.
I think we will eventually have an United Ireland but it will be 50 years down the line. If witing 50 years saves even one life i would gladly do it.

But there was a substantial minority - concentrated in mostly one area - who wanted to maintain their position. Their situation couldn't be ignored, the result was an imperfect partition, but some partition was necessary.

Phoenix: You're a good man Keenland

As i said earlier...I am a Republican but i am a realist. United Ireland will come but it is 50 years away when we are more mature as a country. ireland

Keeneland: When the old EEC started up Scrib everyone said by now we woul be all one nation. I think countries never lose their Histoey and patriotism. I do think Europe will be a lot closer but countries will never forget History and lose that individualality that makes us who we are.

I hope you are right, I really do.

Keeneland: As i said earlier i am a Republican but dont hate the British. Cant blame the current regeime for mistakes of the past. I think the current British government have handled N. Ireland better than any governments of the past. We will have United Ireland one day but it will be late this century. And i hope not one more person loses their life for something that will happen one day peacefully.
the thing is my friend theres no reason anymore to want a united ireland
whats the point?sigh

Well i am sure a lot of Nationalists up North would disagree with you. Thewy would argue that it is very easy for you to say that because you were born and raised in an Irish Republic....that is their dream.....dunno

In response to: I would like to ask the people of Ireland for some support!!
After all the shenanigans over the last few years we are slowly becoming a yes sir country.
What would our fore fathers and mothers think if they still alive?
After all they wanted independence and unitity for there young siblings to appreciate and have some choice.
With the way things are now have they suffered in vain and wasted all there hard work and effords?
That is just like saying we give up on all ye have done for us.
Please try and give some support and let them smile knowing that it was worth there time and efforts and the reason they died for us to have a better life, and our sibings to follow better still.

i do agree but tink on this
say in 40 years time the south is in a financial jocker ,a third world country say (bear with me)the north is one of the richest places on earth, its boom time and theres more catolics than protestants and to unite ireland would mean a drastic drop in standard of living for the north
what then i ask ya
its debatable what would happen in a vote
