JAN_is: I sometimes use it in the workplace to motivate my teachers. Specific examples would be too boring to read for most here, but you understand what I mean I´m sure.
That´s actually the stuff I´m really curious about!! I´d really like to know, if you don´t mind sharing?? Maybe on PM perhaps??
JAN_is: Reverse psychology is very effective not only in a personal way as you describe but also in the workplace. We all practise it to some degree perhaps sub-consciously in many cases.
As someone who is well aware of it, and has used it occasionally, it rarely works if someone tries to use it on me.
Used it for many years with lots of lads and lasses.....Much better than passing out bloody orders ....

invinciblemuse: I guess the trick is to want it to work (does that make sense??).
I mean, I wanted to be talked out of lighting up a cigarette and expected a lecture about my health and crap like that, and I was prepared for that and would have gone ahead and smoked one anyway. Subsequently, in the morning, I would have felt really crap about it and I would have beaten myself up about it.
Instead, my friend took all this away from me, he just disarmed me by saying: go ahead, it won´t kill you!
Oddly, this unexpected response stopped me in my tracks. How weird is that?? I´m annoyed, but happy. All this is very strange to me...
it is weird,i do smoke now and then for stress but i hear smoking is bad
i can think of a lot of things that are more beneficial that you can do with your mouth than smoke cigarettes. blowing bubbles, inflating balloons, singing, sipping green tea. these are just a few but there are others
invinciblemuse: Okay, something weird just happened:
I wanted to do something that´s bad for me, which I´ve just recently given up. So, I told a friend about it on Skype, fully expecting him to discourage me.
Instead he said: go ahead, it won´t do you any harm!
Which totally kept me from doing what I wanted to do!
So, my question is: does reverse psychology still work on you at times?? If you feel like sharing, give us some examples, please!

Since you´re obviously afraid, let me put it more bluntly: if I had a non-smoking BF, he´d get a BJ every other hour, just to compensate for the thrill tobacco used to give me, and to keep me busy...
OMG - is there really someome out there, who believes that??

Yes, and much kinder. I´ve always found it a bit difficult to manage people because I´m a bit of a softie but reverse psychology works for me as it comes naturally....perhaps for that reason.
